Talk about using the "Fear Card".

This is an interesting fact about Meehan...looks like he won't be voting Republican either:

Yep, he's Canadian. :whatever:

So this is what Jonty has been up to. Guess his gas station petered out

Same here. Don't associate us with people who make signs like that.

That's the problem though. When people hear "Republican" they assume Neo-Cons or the Religious Right because those groups have hijacked the party. If only the stranglehold cold be broken...

And many feel the same about Democrats. They see them as tree hugging, convict loving, military hating, big government bureaucrats. Unfortunately, alot of the money IS found in the far left realm. Many think that the Environmental special interest groups have far too much power. I find both parties to be extremely childish and simply choose to stay independent. The numbers of independents are growing at an extreme rate, and both parties better get their **** together, because some would love for them to move on and "let" the door hit them in the ass on the way out.

I'm with Kel. The major parties have both been high jacked by extremists and neither party represents the common electorate any more.

Oh, I completely agree. I've long said that both parties have been hijacked by the extremes.

Yes, both parties are run by the extremists. It's sadly come to choosing between the lesser of two evils the past few elections, instead of the ideal candidate. Ultimately, the two-party system is going to have to be either completely overhauled or completely collapse before it will change. It needs to change. But it's not an overnight process; an evolution rather than a revolution unless something drastic occurs.

Please, the Republican party is one of the most right wing parties in the Western World, the Conservative Party of Canada doesn't demonize homosexuals on a regular basis or have members that say that creationism should be taught instead of evolution in schools.

For the Democrats to be as extreme as the GOP, they would have to give Noam Chomksy an appointment. The democrats are too wimpy to be extreme.

Both parties are controlled by the extremes. Just because the Republicans are moreso, doesn't change that fact.

Care to give an example?

In Canada the Liberal party would be considered more left wing than the democrats and that's not even our most left wing party. The NDP is more left then they are, you argue that they cater to extremes. But the democrats, please, in an international context they are hardly poster boys of an extreme left wing movement, heck most radical socialits would hate the dems as much as they hate the GOP.

I am not talking internationally, I am talking within the scope of our country. Are you really trying to suggest that we get into a debate of "well they're not as bad as the party in this country, or that country, so they're not really catering to the extremes?" Please. It's a known fact that the Democratic Party leans far left, and the Republican Party leans far right.

You cannot honestly tell me that you believe either party to be more center or middle of the line.

What do you mean not as bad, I live in Canada and I prefer it and economy is doing better then your's and we have much more civilized political discourse in this country. Canada is far less partisan than the US.

Far left? BS. Clinton slashed welfare programs in his term in office, whether you agree with that or not, its not far left and Hilliary really pissed off liberals with trying to cozy to social conservatives now and again. I mean really how much of their policies are extreme left? Are they talking about nationalization major industries or something?

You can't just say its a fact, i want proof.

When you say Clinton slashed welfare programs you are right in a sense.

Clinton reformed welfare and initiated a welfare to work program. A republican congress would not let him make it a federal mandate he left it up to the states.

Red states just cut funding and did not adopt the welfare to work program which was successful in getting people off of public assistance.

In states where the welfare rolls were being turned to workforce the cost of public assistance began to plummet.

More people working more people getting an education is a benefit to our nation and economy.

When Bush took office he did away with the improvements that Clinton made to the welfare system. Which essentially increased the rolls of people recieving public assistance.

It seems that since Bush took office the republican line has been I'm holier than you, if you are poor you ought to do better, If you are rich you deserve every break the government can give you, and if your a Democrat your a communist-socialist-tree hugger-baby killer-immoral homo lover.

That pretty much sums it up.

Wow, this is new dumbness. This fool Meehan is the "Bammer Of The Week."

And I'm curious about this statement:

"I believe 9/11 could have been prevented if we'd had a Republican president at the time,"

Um...We DID have a Republican president at the time of the attacks. :whatever:

I wouldn't say moreso. I believe both parties have been equally hijacked, it's just that the GOP's hijackers are far more vocal and upfront about their views and their involvement with the party. The Democrats often have their fare share of frightening backers (Warren Buffett, The ACLU).

The ACLU is not a bad organization. It is dedicated to ensuring that all Americans don't have their civil rights denied. I know it's hard to belive but prejudice still exsists.

*sighs* The ACLU, might have started that way, but they (IMO) are far from the organization that was started to ensure I have my civil rights.

The ACLU started out just fine, but they are now a bunch of insanely politically correct lawsuit mongerers who defend self righteous buffoons who are too sensitive for their own good.

Saying Merry Christmas and having a Christmas Tree display isn't a violation of civil rights. I commend for their efforts in getting Gitmo shut down.

Kel, arent you a female? The ACLU takes on sexual/ gender discrimination cases regularly to this day.

The ACLU is the reason that companies have written standards that clearly prohibit sexual harasment.

The ACLU has done alot of good things, Tag. I don't think anyone can dispute that. But you have to admit, they have a tendency to get a little extreme from time to time.

I'm not saying they have done alot of good.

But, there political correctness is killing this country. I'm a female, I'm an educator, and I would much rather they stay out of my life with their political correct ********. If I'm being sexually harrassed at my place of employment, or wherever....I can take care of it myself.... Thank you.....:yay:

Most of the good things the ACLU does (which is a lot) seems to get eclipsed by the occasional extreme things they sometimes get their fingers into as the extreme stuff definitely gets more press even if it's more the exception than the norm for their typical issues.

Not just yours, everybody's. Even the people you hate.
