Heh, silly.
He's not a "lifeform". He's a pseudo-organic super-computer from the year 2112.
Didn't you get the secret messages? :o

Is this "rock and roll" or "songs"?

Music's subjective and as old as Sex. This is impossible to do.
But I was in the mood to try ('cause Spaniard zombies were eating my ass earlier).

There were many New Wave songs I decided against mentioning (that "ROCK"), and some that I felt I had to mention (that aren't that "ROCKING").
It was troublesome.
For instance, "Cars" by Gary Numan ?, I rock the f*** out to that. But It didn't feel right, like..."Rock And Roll".
So I decided on some criteria.

Guitars have to be prominent (or at least real four-stringed basses) and the songs have to feature a blues-oriented melody, to classify as " ROCK ".

I didn't rank them in order though, I could never do that.
Except for "When The Levee Breaks" which is in fact the #1 song in the known Universe and effortlessly destroys any musician who ever lived or who ever will live and I honestly don't understand how it isn't the "favorite song" of every person here.:)

I thought long and hard about these songs, then, right before posting, I googled "100 greatest rock songs", to make sure I didn't miss anything glaring, and the first place I clicked was pretty much identical to his list. Wtf? :down

It's cool. This is something I've been putting off for a while.*shrug*

And I'm sure I could make points with Toven if I commented on how much I like the Dresden Dolls, but this isn't the "100 best ***-Rock songs of all time".

So, let me know which 24 I should cut loose.

ANd 80s Metallica, some of the best rock ever made is where?

pfff....I was going to put "Sad But True" on there, but I'm unimpressed with the rest of their stuff.

Sad But True should probably replace one of the Go-Go's songs though, LOL.

Fade to black, Sanitarium, One, For whome the bell tolls, Ride the lightning, Call of Ktulu, The thing that should not be, The unforgiven.

That's the beauty of it, Timmy!
Th^t was... MY ...list.

Not yours.
You get to make your own.:)

Yeah, but I dont know how you cant see the greatness in these songs. :(

The Sad But True-Riff is Wicked as anything.
The rest,...I don't know, I kind of like One, if I'm in the mood for it.
Or Enter Sandman....

What're ya gonna do?*shrug*

Jimmy Page is GOD and I'd rather listen to "Manic Depression" by Hendrix, or even the Mamas and the Papas than many M'Tallica songs.
They're so WANNABE "fierce"

But Lars, yeah, he is truly great.
I'm a guitar player though and that dweeb on lead....even his old teacher Satriani had nothing good to say about him.

I could never limit myself to just Rock and Roll. My musical preferences are far too ecclectic. The constants in my 'favorites' mixes are Alan Jackson, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, AC/DC (Back In Black is my all time favorite album), Metallica, Tupac, Babyface, Marvin Gaye, Martina McBride, Teddy Pendergrass, Al Green, Conway Twitty, Prince, Hank Williams Sr & Jr, GnR, Loretta Lynn and Elvis.

My alltime favorite songs are A Change Is Gonna Come (Cooke) and the song that inspired it, Blowin' in the Wind (Dylan).

Best sex song: Moonlight Sonata (Beethoven).

That's why this topic is limited to "Rock".
If it was "top 100 SONGS ever", then I'd have a hell of a lot of Dixie Dregs, K.D. Lang, Eminem, and the Carpenters on there.

I could get into a musical theory debate about what is rock. But, alas, I'll save it for another day. Wouldn't want your head to explode.

DEVO
90. Girl U Want
91. Whip It
92. Freedom Of Choice

:)

Though I've noticed that all 3 tunes come from the "Freedom of Choice" LP... There's a LOT more greatness from DEVO.

"Jerkin'n Back'n Forth" is one of my favorites.

Nice Wilhelm, KISS definitely deserves to have Shout it Out Loud, Cold Gin, and Calling Dr. Love on there. Straight on for You by Heart would be good to add as well...........
