The Iran Thread II

Eh, let's not break out the champagne just yet.

It doesn't matter how you look at it this is historic. Obama was able to achieve a nuclear deal with Iran. That is something nobody thought could get done when he took office. I haven't looked enough into the deal to make a solid determination as to what my opinion on it is yet but it is historic. Regardless of whether Iran actually keeps it's word and abides by the deal it's still historic. No two ways about it

Way I look at it, if it works, great. If it doesn't work, well we gave them a chance and it failed and we no worse then where we are now with the exception we can claim we gave them a shot.

Well how would you describe something that 4 other presidents attempted to do in one way or another yet was achieved by Obama? I'm just curious

Unprecedented. Unparalleled. First of a kind. Novel. That word has just been used too damn much in the media.

Gives Israel time to gas up the F-16's.

It would be in Israel's interest to sabotage this deal. Right now though, it is also in their interest to stay put and wait for CIA clearance to send their operatives to learn more about their nuclear and military capability. This deal gives them access to expand their spy network in Iran.

Obama and Kerry crossed every one of their own red lines

In 2013, Kerry declared of the Iranians, “There is no right to enrich.” Two years later? The final agreement allows Iran to keep 5,000 centrifuges, 2,000 more than Pakistan had when it secretly built a nuclear arsenal.

Nor will Iran be limited to current technology; Kerry has ceded Iran’s right to experiment with new-generation centrifuges exponentially more powerful than Iran has now.

But centrifuges are only one part of Iran’s illicit program. In 2013, Kerry told Congress the “whole point of the [sanctions] regime” was to force Iran to “dismantle its nuclear program.” But the deal to which Kerry agreed lets Iran keep everything in place.

This includes Fordo, the once-covert nuclear site Iran built under a mountain.

It gets worse. In 1991, the International Atomic Energy Agency required South Africa to come clean on the past 20 years of its nuclear work in order to certify that it had ceased its nuclear-weapons program.

Anything short of that, and the IAEA said it could not certify that all material was accounted for. And yet, Kerry caved on this, effectively crafting a deal the IAEA can’t certify.

Then, Kerry backed down on demands that inspectors be able to conduct snap inspections on military sites. Those inspections are necessary because this is where, according to the IAEA, Iran worked on everything from components for a warhead to detonators.

Finally, he allowed Iran essentially to pre-approve any inspection. That’s the equivalent of having a criminal pre-approve a search warrant.

Then, of course, there’s the arms embargo. It gets lifted after a short period of time. It also means Iran can export them to terrorist groups across the region.

Essentially, Obama is reimbursing Iran in full for decades of investment in a covert nuclear program.

The White House insists that Iran will use that money for good, but history disagrees. When Europe tried a similar strategy between 2000 and 2005, Iran invested the bulk of its hard-currency windfall in its covert nuclear program and ballistic missiles.

Iran has no interest in using nuclear weapons. Like any other nation, they will use it to deter invasion....like Israel.

This deal is worth Billions to the Iranians. The amount of money they stand to profit from with sanctions being dropped and other benefits makes it in their interest to stick to the deal.

A Strong Iran in the Middle East who are on good terms with the US is probably the best thing that can happen for American Interests in the Middle East

Not to mention a more economically stable Iran is a lot better for the future of the Middle Eaast than an unstable broke Iran. Strangling the country and its people wasnt helping the Middle East and was just causing resentment. At least now the economy might grow and the young people of Iran may actually have a chance at a better future.

There is no way Iran is going to stick with the deal. They have a history of ignoring the demands of the U.N. why would they listen to us? A country they deem evil due to their beliefs as an Islamic state.

What are the odds it's actually an internal problem caused by the result of their last election and someone thought they can coax them to restore a hardliner?

Great. Did they figure we don't have enough wars going on right now?

Iran is attacking everyone now...not even their ostensible allies are safe.

The morning after Iranian attacks on neighboring Pakistan and Iraq, Iran’s defense minister vowed Wednesday that his country would “not set any limits” on using its missile capabilities against enemies whenever necessary.

“We are a missile power in the world,” the minister, Mohammad Reza Ashtiani, told reporters at a cabinet meeting, according to state media. “Wherever they want to threaten the Islamic Republic of Iran, we will react, and this reaction will definitely be proportionate, tough and decisive.”

Iran has demonstrated its willingness to use its military might — even when it involves striking the territory of its allies and neighbors — with back-to-back attacks on Syria late on Monday, then Iraq and Pakistan on Tuesday. The strikes could further inflame a widening conflict across the Middle East.

I'm afraid of another global war with everyone fighting each other. :(
Things have got sharply worse in the last few years with Russia/Ukraine, Israel/Gaza and now this. That’s all even without China making any moves on Taiwan. They will see the West is distracted so it’s not comforting to think of the possibilities.

Everybody's picking on everyone else. :(
