Marvel Reaches Interim Agreement with Writer's Guild

Like I said, I'd be worrying about Ant-Man and Captain America. Unlike Thor, they should still be in the heavy script development phase and Captain America doesn't have a director. I think Ant-Man has more of a chance to get the 2009 slot than Captain America at this stage.

I don't think we'll get an Avengers film by 2010. From the way Favreau and Norton sound, they want to get into actual sequels. The third Hulk film will probably deal with the Leader and the second Iron Man film to deal with Tony Stark's alcoholism and have villains such as the Mandarin and/or Fing Fang Foom.

I think we'll be seeing it this way:

2008 - Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk
2009 - Thor and Ant-Man
2010 - Captain America and Nick Fury
2011 - Iron Man 2, Hulk 3, minor character
2012 - Thor 2, Captain America 2, minor character
2013 - Avengers, minor character

I think Marvel has prioritized the Avengers movie over sequels to the solo films.

I think Marvel has prioritized the Avengers movie for sequels to the solo films.

That doesn't mean we'll see Avengers before sequels... if Thor or Hulk flop then people will be wary of an Avengers film... if IM or Hulk... one of them does extremely well while the other does poorly... I can guarantee Marvel will push for a sequel for the more successful franchise... if both do extremely well we may even see two sequels... I don't think IM or Hulk will get a trilogy before Avengers but I can see IM and maybe the Hulk getting at least one sequel... maybe Thor gets one too if that does well.

And if Thor or Hulk flop, then you won't be seeing any sequels to them at all; but that still leaves open the possibility for an Avengers movie.

Given the fact Marvel has been waiting to get these properties into their own hands, and creating a shared universe for them, I think it's obvious that the Avengers movie is Marvel's priority.

I am not denying that... but they are also fleshing out multiple movie outlines for their solo films... so it doesn't they are going to do Avengers so soon if they fear it will break up continuity in the solo films... I want Avengers out sooner than later... but I don't think we will get it in 2011. So that Summer is still open for potential Hulk Iron Man or Thor sequels.

And I don't see Sam in a Nick Fury movie... but I can see him in a SHIELD movie where we are introduced to a bunch of characters... maybe they call it Nick Fury... I think it will get another title though if they even make a movie like that.

Well it's going to happen. They have a star who's an avid fan of the character (Samuel L. Jackson). They have a writer (Andrew Marlowe). A distributor (Paramount Pictures).

All it really needs is a director and we'll probably see this film in 2010 with Captain America.

And if I recall, Tim Story wanted to use Nick Fury in FF2, but Marvel prohibited him from doing it because they were making their own SHIELD movie.

I think Ironman will do pretty well actually, Downey has signed on to do three movies and I think it will make it to that. Hulk will probably get one sequel at the least as well as Thor most likely. Captain America I'm sure they'll shoot for a trilogy and will most likely get it. And with that the Avengers will probably have at least one sequel as well.

Its great that they had an agreement before everyone else as it will make writers want to work for Marvel after remembering they where the first ones to agree.

I think it's worth pointing out that while Downey Jr. is signed on for a trilogy, there's a clause in the contract saying that one of those films can be an ensemble movie (i.e. the Avengers movie).

I rather have him doing Iron Man than Avengers.
also...I think a Ultimates movie would be 2x better than an Avengers movie

II think a Ultimates movie would be 2x better than an Avengers movie

So do I, which is why I'm hoping that the Avengers movie will be based on vol. 1 of the Ultimates.

Maybe I'm missing somthing but...

Isn't Sam Jackson going to Nick Fury in Iron Man. So wouldn't that make it the ultimate Iron Man since the ultimate Nick is black? I may just be poorly informed so sorry if I am.

No. The Iron Man in the movie is very heavily based on the 616 Iron Man.

Marvel will probably take into account the various characterizations of their characters. Hulk is going to be like the 616 version and the 1978-1982 Incredible Hulk TV show version. Thor is going to be a blend of his comic book version and the Thor of actual Norse mythology.

That's why I'm guessing...

2008: Iron Man / Incredible Hulk

2009: Thor / Ant-Man

2010: Captain America / Iron Man 2

2011: Hulk 2 / Avengers

Hulk 2 leading in to a need for an Avengers movie would be ideal. An Avengers movie avoids any talk of stale third films. Basing the characters on 616 Marvel is the only way to go. The Ultimates should influence design (Cap's outfit) but shouldn't be directly referenced at all. The last thing Cap or an Avenger's movie needs is aliens from outer space.

:whatever:

As I pointed out earlier in the thread Marvel were not first. As far as I can gather United Artists lead the charge, followed closely by another half dozen companies and then Marvel.

Actually, that's one of the few things I would change: replacing the Chitauri with, say, HYDRA. I think mostly everything else from the first Ultimates book could, and should, be used in an Avengers movie.

Anyone else think that if Marvel's 1st 2 films this year take off really well that they may try to pay off their loan quickly to free them up from the summer only restrictions that they had to agree to to get the loan in the first place? I'm sure they'd like to do their smaller films and put them out at other times of the year. Like say a Heroes for Hire film in fall or something.

I just hope Thor will be more like the Ultimate Thor. his outfit is so cool...
much better than that helmet with little wings and a red cape...
also...I think the Ultimate version sounds more like a viking.

Ultimate Thor's costume is horrible. They should go with his modern design with some tweaking like they did with Iron Man:

nah...I really don't dig this Thor.
this is the one that kicks azz, for me:

and I don't really see they using the old costume. I mean, the ultimate version is more "XXI century". Ultimate Avengers movie and Marvel Ultimate Alliance used this Thor. the movie will probably follow.

I like normal Thor better than the ultimate one. Thor has to be likeable, handsome, shaven yet still strong and built.

Since it's basically a risk free loan, I doubt Marvel wants out fast. If the entire slate fails, they only lose the rights to the movie characters. If they're unprofitable movies, what would their valuable be anyway? It's always good to avoid interest payments but why play with their own capital so fast? The deal is set up perfectly for them.

I like normal Thor better than the ultimate one.

So do I. I hate that Ultimate ax instead of the real hammer and a hippie Thor would just flat out piss me off.

Except Thor should never, ever be 21st Century. He represents the Norse Gods of over 1000 years ago.

Ultimate Thor's costume is just plain ugly. His modern 616 costume is a perfect blend of his traditional costume and making it look like he came from a time period of over 1000 years.

And Ultimate Thor is a stupid character to begin with. Thank God that Vaughn is using the Norse myths and the 616 version.
