Alrighty, I'm aware that there is a Flash movie thread, but is the Flash movie thread, for all things related to a Flash movie. I wanted to create a thread for the sole purpose of talking about Wally West and who should portray the character that, IMO, is the most fleshed out and developed Flash in the legacy of the character, and the character that the movie should be based around when one is made. I don't want to hear any Barry talk, none at all, this is Wally time, my personal favorite DC character, tied with Superman.

So, who would you cast as Wally West?

Again, I know there is a Flash movie thread, please don't remind me, or make any dumb quip about the thread. If a mod has a problem, they will move the thread.

Wally is one of those characters that every writer seems to have their own personal "take" on. Most people here will probably go by the Timmverse take on Wally but going by the Perez/Wolfman Teen Titans view of Wally (my favorite), then Dustin Milligan would be a good pick.

You see I'd argue that the Waid/Weiringo Wally (say that six times fast) is the Wally West, it was during that run that he really came into his own and established a lot of the characterization that carries over into how he is portrayed in other books and in other media.

He has, up until this last year, been the guy trying to deal with the weight of being basically the first sidekick to really have to take over a mantle. He's been nervous, unsure of himself and sometimes barrels into situations thinking too much about what Barry would do instead of what he himself should do. Toward the end of that time and this is what Geoff Johns inherited when he took over the book Wally became more confident in his role as the main hero, became more determined in his actions and got to point where he was really stepping into his space in the higher tier of superherodom.

The reason why Ryan Reynolds has been been bandied about for this role for years isn't solely wrapped up in the fact that he looks a lot like Wally but also because he'd be capable of playing both sides of the character almost flawlessly. Since its highly unlikely he'd take this role now (and that's Warner's fault really, since he seemed ready and willing to jump into this role for years) you'd need to find someone capable of doing that kind of characterization, I just can't think of anyone right now.

:gets off soapbox:

Emile Hirsch

Three cheers for DCs lack of character consistency. :hehe:

Anton Yelchin was WB's choice to play Wally in Justice League: Mortal.

That was the only good casting choice they made for that film.

Hey now, I think Morrison got Wally right in his JLA run and so did Johns when he took over the book as did the JLU writers. But saddling him with kids was just a bad move, its been handled poorly.

I second this one. *thumbs up*

Well i dont really know who would be a good wally off hand, and whos to know if wally or barry will be the flash if/when the flash film ever gets off the ground. I still say it would be alot easier to go with barry, in the film since his origin is easy to do. Then maybe have wally appear in first film also gets hit and gains speed powers but they dont show up during the course of the film which leads it open for sequel and then wally's powers start showing up......

Wiki the character. There is so much to tell about the character of the flash and all the men who have used the title.

I know I have him pegged as Green Arrow, but I also think Ben McKenzie could play Wally West, and I like Wally West better than the Green Arrow.

Haha, WHAT?! Anton Yelchin was a good choice? Shrimpy Charlie Bartlett?

Uh yeah, who's next, Zac Efron for Robin?

sorry not everybody starts off as oscar winning actors lol got to start somewhere

here's a thought, what about, Steve Howey???

I liked Anton Yelchin for Wally. He's got the look, IMO, and he's young enough to play Kid Flash in a Flash and/or Teen Titans movie so if Barry dies in like the third or second Flash film he could take over as Flash. He'd be able to grow into the role.

I have to tell you tho, this thread is probably as useless as a Kyle Rayner casting thread, while it's fun to cast these characters, realistically, Barry Allen will most likely be Flash in the Flash film. Look around, guys. Hal Jordan is the GL in the GL film, Ollie Queen is the Green Arrow in Supermax, there's a JLA film in the works that will most likely include the afformentioned film versions of the characters in an origin, and as you all know, Barry Allen co-founded the JLA (even suggested the team's name), and Barry Allen will be The Flash in the current comics again in a couple months, with Wally getting a "Nightwing" type position (i.e., his own identity finally). Also, the current working trend in superhero franchises, especially for first films, is the origin, something that cannot be done with Wally as Flash. I'm just sayin', Barry Allen will most likely be Flash (and he should, in this poster's opinion, for a number of reasons, many of which I don't have time to spell out at the moment :D ) because it's the most economical approach.

Cheers. :D

I just hope whoever it is, it's not Adam Brody, for this movie or Justice League.

Whoever they cast, they definatley need to rework Wally's origin, that's for sure. I never liked the idea that it's just the same thing that happened to Barry coincidentally repeating itself.

First, I hate the Anton Yelchin idea.

Second, didn't I say no Barry Allen talk in this thread. I thought I made this clear. This isn't the Superman board, please politely do as I ask.

Third, at the VERY LEAST, it will be Barry Allen in name and job title only. If it is Barry, he will have the personality of Wally West, so when we talk casting, we should think Wally West. Thank you.....

Fourth, this should not be your average origin flick. It should be Wally's origin with Barry already an established Flash, and dying. We have the character to be different, lets be different, shall we.....
