Chris Mortenson has now said "It would be a surprise if Pete Carroll isn't the Seahawks coach."

This either happens, or Mortenson needs to leave ESPN.

He should just take the Buffalo job. Toronto is out of their jurisdiction.

I just find this funny because NFL network ran that "Top 10 Coaches Who Belonged in College" last night.

Guess who made the list.

It's funny, because Bobby Petrino was a terrific hire at the time.

He had legit NFL credentials and cannot be blamed for the season they had.

Now how he handled himself was completely and utterly classless - but handling himself without class does not make you a coach that belonged in college, it makes you an *******.

If (when?) Pete Carroll becomes Seattle's Head Coach, Pat Kirwan of NFL.com, CBSsports.com and Sirius NFL Radio will likely be hired as his hand picked GM.

Kirwan was a Player Personnel guy with the New York Jets during the 90's (Carroll had a brief Head Coaching stint during this time).

Carroll and Kirwan are best friends.

not a good move, Pete....you are a god in Cali, stay on the throne

I agree. Carrol is pretty much a modern day Joe Paterno in the sense that he can keep that job for as long as he wants, keep winning championships, and keep building on to his legacy. If he goes to Seattle and blows it, no one outside of Cali will remember the college legend Carrol, all that will be remembered is he is another name on the list of college coaches who fail to make the transition.

Thats my biggest problem with this move. Carrol's already tried his hand at head coach in the NFL, twice. And neither time was he up to par. He should just stay where he is.

Joe Pop has no modern day equivalent. He is living/breathing history. The next man down got the bums rush @ FL. St.

I wonder does Reggie Bush or his family would ever face any of this heat. This whole onion is getting worse. I know Bush had to testify in court right? Leave the program or face serious NCAA sanctions..is that why he's leaving?

Great for seattle  seahawks, not so much for Mora or Caroll I would think.

With Mangini back in Cleveland, it looks like Mini Mora will be joining his father as a broadcaster next year.

As for possible replacements for Pete Carroll? I expect the names of Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian to be brought up as well as the usual suspects: Terry Bowden, Tommy Tuberville, Phil Fulmer

If he goes to Seattle and blows it he will return to college and be huge. He's not risking all that much. Is Saban hurt because of Miami?

Carrol is a much better coach now than he was then, and he wasn't a bad NFL coach back then. He WAS up to par. His winning percentage was over .500% and he was in the playoffs two of four years.

Isn't Carrol a much safer pick than an unproven coordinator?

Mora could find himself as a defensive coordinator at a number of places, including Washington and Chicago.

I will address this in the NCAA thread :cwink:

I hope not. Cable's firing would be a bigger blow to the Raiders organization than JaMarcus Russell.

If Cable's fired, I will finally buy the notion that the Raiders will never be relevant until Al Davis dies.

Well, I submitted my picks. We needed the winner AND scores for this round, right?

I've read that a decision on Cable's future will be made on Monday.

Also, I think it's smart of Holmgren to keep Mangini, although fans in Cleveland hope they don't regress to like 4-12 or 3-13.

Cable's future would be secure at any competent franchise.

If Cable is fired, all Mike Leach needs is one interview to get the job. Al Davis will have his first non-Viagra induced ***** in two decades during his first meeting with Leach.
