The "Keep Hope Alive" (that the rights can revert back to Marvel) thread

As much as I don't trust Fox, I don't see any reason not to give the movie a fair chance if Fox does actually decide to move forward.

Rothman's gone, Trank has some talent and since we don't know anything about the film at this point, I can't see any reason to not wait and see what happens.

Even if it's a 1 in 1000 chance Fox will make a good film, there's nothing to be gained by assuming they won't beat the odds.

Tomorrow is September. It will be interesting to see if this month brings us a whole lot of news . . . or a whole lot more nothing.

I'm pretty much thinking the same thing....

It's just a wait and see.

But I don't want a good film.

I want a good film IN THE MCU.

And I'm fairly certain that the majority of the people in this thread feel the same way.

I fail to see how it's more Likely that Marvel would make a better film. They are movie studios not creative teams.

It's possible we'll never get a good film in the MCU. I'm an FF fan, so I'm not going to simply ignore what could be 20 years of Fox FF films.

I can't imagine what purpose that would serve.

You don't want a good Fox film, but what if they make one? Do you plan to just not see a good film or series of films because you didn't want them to be good? I can't see any logic in that.

Marvel is a studio that has history of hiring better creative teams than Fox. Sure Fox might do it right, but the chances are certainly better with Marvel.

Quite simply, I don't care about non-MCU Marvel films anymore. For me, they are (sometimes) fun little "What If" issues in the Marvel universe. It's the OFFICIAL, canonical Marvel Cinematic Universe that I really care about.

Remember that "What If" issue where Captain America married a female-version of Tony Stark in an alternate reality? Yeah...that was cool. Whatever. Now tell me what's happening in the REAL Marvel Universe.

That's exactly how I feel about Fox and Sony in respect to the MCU.

"Fox made an amazing Fantastic Four film that everybody loves? Yeah...wow, it really is awesome! That's great. So...what's going on in the MCU?!"

So films that have cameos from other characters are better?

I don't think anyone is saying that FF would be better at FOX. I'm sure that there could be three solo films you could milk out of the FF without having to use characters outside of the contract. More importantly you should NEVER wish a film to bomb.
What ever the outcome of this franchise be it with FOX or Marvel everyone should give the movie a chance.

I don't want the movie to bomb. I just don't want it to be made period.

I just don't see where all this new found faith in Fox is coming from. Statistically their CBMs suck more often than not. X2 is still their best film in my opinion and that was 10 years ago. I know Rothman is gone but let's see how DOFP pans out first shall we? Even if that's the success we're hoping it will be, that's Fox finally figuring out how to do the X-Men right after 6 or 7 outings (the first two of which were very promising). Meanwhile, the first two FF were lousy, Trank is unproven and it's been nothing but bad news about this FF reboot.

Even if Fox could miraculously squeeze out 3 good movies (and I'm being generous here) the FF will never be as great as they could be as part of the MCU. I also worry about audience fatigue and market saturation. I don't want people rolling their eyes when they hear about the next FF movie that is released. These are great characters and they deserve to be done justice. I'd rather wait 6 years or so and see a truly "Fantastic" Fantastic Four than see this property dragged through the mud on another mediocre Fox outing and now I have to wait 10, 15 or 20 years or more for a proper film. I fear Fox will do more irreparable damage so that if and when Marvel gets them back they'll need to sit on the shelf for a loooong time.

If the movie truly moves ahead so be it. But I thought this was the "Keep Hope Alive" thread?

I'm always looking forward to a "good film" if a film is from Fox, Sony, Disney, whoever...if its good, its good.

This "only if its Marvel/Disney" is kinda weird...do y'all work for them or something?

Same here. It would be great to have a cohesive Universe with everybody together, but we have what we have, and I'm not about to miss the next Spider-man just because it isn't in the MCU.

I do hope though that the studios can work together in the future and maybe find a way to put everybody in the same universe even if they're still being made by different studios.

Every person who says "just give the rights back to Marvel!" Needs to watch IM3 :o

The MCU's vision of a connected universe has left many of us spoiled. The previous studio model of keeping your superheroes in silos seems woefully outdated since watching Samuel L Jackson appear on screen well after the first MCU film had ended. FOX, WB and even Sony are making valiant efforts to siphon off some of this energy, but their efforts, though noteworthy, have just a hint of desperation (Sinister 6?). While I have some interest in all superhero films, I am obsessed with following the stories from the MCU.

Because of this, I have zero interest in a non-MCU FF reboot, even if (to quote Chris Pratt) the film is the Citizen Kane of films that aren't Citizen Kane. The First Family IS Marvel, even more so than Spidey, and to have them kept from their home is, to me anyway, quite sad. This may be the team's last chance at big screen success, and I want them to have the advantage of being introduced into a film universe that is perfectly suited to their introduction. This is clearly not Singer's X-Men universe. The proposed FOX FF reboot has the potential to harm BOTH the FOX X-Men films and the MCU, and should be opposed by all fans of comic book movies.

Of course many of the people in here must be connected with Marvel/Disney. No one else could have that continued level of focused bias in their arguments.

It's interesting to come in here and see who the Marvel/Disney plants actually are though. Very enlightening! :yay:

When is this supposed to start filming?

Today!:funny:

Latest reports have been that it would start in September in Louisiana, but here we are in September and the silence has been deafening.

The above link is pretty much the only 'news' we have had in 6 months or more. When that story came out, many people took that as proof that Fox was moving forward, but I'm going to remain skeptical until we see something concrete.

I watched Iron Man 3. It's a great movie. If Fox could ever make a superhero movie one tenth as good as IM3 the FF would be in good hands. But Fox can't, so some would prefer that the team return to its rightful owner.

It's strange that there are no production reports coming out of Fox for a film that's supposed to start filming shortly. Frankly I think that the September date is just a bluff or BS. I've read spec on other sites that they have until August/September 2014 to start production or lose the rights. The studio may be waiting to see how DOFP pans out before proceeding. Fox is notoriously cheap and likely doesn't want to commit a several hundred million to the FF without some indication that at least one of its CBMs has done well.

While I don't think any of us can do much more than speculate about the contract details and Fox's intentions, one thing I feel reasonably certain of is that they can't hold on to Josh Trank until August/September 2014.

There was a lot of interest in him for other projects after Chronicle, but he apparently accepted the FF Deal. It's already been a year and a half since Chronicle and I can't imagine Trank is going to sit around twiddling his thumbs for another year just waiting for Fox to get their s*** together.

If production doesn't start soon, it's a good bet Trank will move on to something else.

I'll give up my "handlers" at Disney/Marvel if you tell me to whom at FOX you report.
