Black Widow News and Speculation Thread

Oh dear. It’s going to be a very grim year without entertainment to liven us up. I mean, think about what the golden age of musicals did for people during the Great Depression and world war 2 etc

Took you long enough, Disney. Though personally more curious when The Woman in the Window will be released, as I was looking forward to that one.

Had a feeling it was coming. Still pretty upset about it though.

And with the news of this being delayed, I'm now just waiting for the announcement of Wonder Woman 2 being pushed back.

Not surprising. I think this will either take Eternals current spot or Shang Chi

They won't delay it that long. Not unless theaters are closed until winter our something drastic. My guess is August. Remember, this has to come before Falcon & Winter Soldier. This is the project meant to start phase 4. They won't wait until February for this. Not unless theaters stay closed just that long. But I am thinking they're targeting August.

First weekend in August sounds good to me :cwink:

I'll presumably have money to spend on theater tickets and even Disney+ at that point, so, works for me. Plus, the picky person in me kinda likes the idea of there being a big gap in-between the end of the Infinity Saga and the start of the next overarching storyline; as it stood before, there was barely a year between Spider-Man: Far From Home and Black Widow.

At least now we have more time to theory-craft if we want.

Falcon and the Winter Soldier has stopped production. It may not come out in August anymore.

Agreed, but the point is with how the inter connected world works of Marvel, Black Widow was designed to be the start of the new phase. Therefore nothing can release until it does.

Even when theaters come back, it’ll be a while before people go out in droves like they used to. This movie being a prequel to a dead characters means they can likely be very flexible with it in terms of release order. Considering Shang Chi has halted production, it likely won’t come out in time so all the Phase IV dates will be affected. This or Eternal is prime to take that over

As I noted above, this movie is designed to be the first movie of the phase. Therefore, nothing else is going to release until this does. Doesn't matter if the character is dead.

They won't do that. Marvel and Sony won't do that and risk a Spider-Man war.

But even that doesn't guarantee Widow could possibly be released in August, if Marvel Studios was considering that. Hell, with all these productions being pushed back, this could impact any potential post-production on The Eternals, so Widow could even be pushed back potentially to November as well, Eternals to Shang-Chi's spot, and so on down the line. At this point, no one knows.

That's true. But my point is, I think Marvel is likely operating under the assumption that this will be over before November. Even though it may not be, and I do think post production on Eternals is aided by them being done filming. So much of post can maybe done by the editors and such through work from home or something potentially. Though that movie may still need reshoots yet. Not sure on that front.

If I’m the cast, I’d be hesitant to do massive fan events for a while. I definitely wouldn’t want to promote this movie like they normally do.

And as also noted above everything ie being affected with Falcon and Winter Soldier likely not coming out when originally planned. You dont know exactly how BW ties into everything if at all in any significant way that necessitates it comes out in a certain order. It could really just be a standalone film with weak ties

There are contractual obligations and regardless, they will still need to go out and promote the film, They can still do fan events without interacting directly with the fans. I can this being limited to panels with questions from the crowd but anything involving signing and pictures might be restricted for a while

Normally I'd agree, but Black Widow really feels like a phase 3 film that just took too long to come out. And now it's taking even longer to come out...

Ah well.

Then you have been paying attention to what Kevin Feige has been saying. I think, most pople, like you mistakenly think that cuz it's BW and shes dead that this wont be setting up things but Kevin has said numerous times therea a reason why this is setting up phase 4 and hes assured us it will most definietly be a movie used to set things up. Thats just the way the MCU works....

Yeah people are really underestimating the importance of this film.
