Happened upon this in my feed just now: X-Men character to be 'introduced as villain' in Captain Marvel sequel

Superhero Buzz’s Mikey Sutton is circulating the rumour that Marvel president Kevin Feige is lining up an X-Men character to be the villain in Captain Marvel 2.

This character will specifically be Rogue, who was played by Anna Paquin in four X-Men films from 2000 to 2014.

Rogue would be the first X-Men character officially introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Disney’s acquisition of Fox.

Sutton claims he’s “heard from several inside sources” that she will be a part of a mutant terrorist group, much like her introduction in the comics.

Going by the fact that this depiction would be wildly different to Paquin’s Rogue, it seems like the character would be played by a different actor if the reports do prove true.

Sutton also claims that, when the X-Men are finally introduced, the one character who will not be present is Magneto, who they are considering “shelving” due to “burnout”.
Not sure how reliable this Mikey Sutton is (I've heard his name before but I don't remember if he's considered a decent source or not) but it seems like an interesting idea, especially the notion of them shelving certain characters. Maybe it's just my unfamiliarity with the material providing distance, but I wouldn't mind if they just shelved the whole lot of most popular film-appearing X-Men for a good several years, just bring back maybe one or two of the big names within the next 5 years or so.

As for Rogue, all I've heard of her is that she steals Danvers' powers and/or infiltrates her mind? Could be a good foe from a psychological angle in addition to a physical one if they do it well.

I hope they don't introduce Rogue in this. She'll not only steal Carol's powers but she'll steal the movie.

Rogue would give this sequel a much needed kick.

Re: the Rogue rumor. I've never heard of that person or that YouTube channel either, and I doubt many people have either, but I don't put too much stock in that.

With CM 2 getting the July 2022 slot, it looks like Ant-Man and the Wasp will get the October 2022 slot or one of the remaining 2023 slots.

I would love if 2022 is all sequels. Some of these sequels should be coming out earlier instead of more than 3 years since their last solo film.

Doctor Strange 2 - almost exactly siX years
Thor 4 - more than four years
Black Panther 2 - more than four years
Captain Marvel 2 - more than three years
Ant-Man 3 - more than for four years
Gotg 3 - six years if it comes out in May 2023

I'm surprised that we'll be getting both this and BP2 in the same year. I figured they would've spaced them out with each being big event film for their respective year. Regardless it's cool that we have a date now. Hopefully we'll get some director news soon.

Yeah I wouldn’t think too much about that date yet as things are constantly changing but the main thing to take out of that announcement is that they’ve dated it already.

Could someone explain, how Rogue could be the main villain? Of course she has the power to steal the abilities of CM, but then again she‘s a very esrthbound character and her origin is on earth.
I thought CM will go full Marvel Cosmic like Guardians and Thor.

Captain Marvel has had cosmic adventures but also Earth-bound adventures. Keep in mind that quite a bit of the first movie was on Earth anyway. If she's Earth-bound or even in some kind of orbital defense type role, it's possible that the villains would be Mystique and Rogue.

That being said, they already did the memory loss story and it involved shape shifters, so I don't think they should be a priority. If they're going with an X-Men villain, my push would be for the Brood (maybe with the Starjammers and the Shi'ar thrown into the mix).

And the rumor right now is that Captain Marvel 2 is meant to set the stage for whatever story that New Avengers movie will tell

Rumor from where, Jeremy? I know Mr. Manabyte believes that he's got clout, but anyone can say they heard a rumor from somewhere. Just look at We Got This Covered. But the fact that he merely says "rumor" and tosses in "possibility" is, I feel, a way for him to cover his own ass if this ends up not being the case because he didn't outright say it. Could this happen? Possibly. But Manabyte being Manabyte, I take it with the biggest grain of salt.

It’s pretty obvious Marvel want Captain Marvel to spearhead the next Avengers movie anyway with how much Feige pushed for her. Either I find the first movie one of the most under rated MCU movies so am looking forward to the sequel.

I hope she leads the Avengers, at least for a little while. I’m still trying to figure out what the leadership and structure of the new Avengers team will be like (if there even is just one clearly defined Avengers team in the future), but I hope Carol, Stephen Strange and T’Challa are the leaders. But unless they either find ways to downgrade Carol’s powers organically (which would probably still come off as a cheap, underhanded move), or simply upgrade the villains drastically, I don’t know if she’ll be able to be a team player all the time, because of how powerful she is: I’m guessing she’ll be more like a Thor type going forward, where she has her own side quests that keep her occupied during the main plot, but still allow her to show up for the third act battles and all that. And on the one hand I also feel that fits her character better, since she seems to like working solo anyway, and doesn’t really work well with a team. But at the same time, I love Carol, so I do truly want them to find a way to incorporate her into the main team. Maybe just make the villains way more powerful...

I know, but I still felt it was worth sharing. Who even knows how far along the script is at this point.

Yeah and i want Captain Marvel 2 and 3 to be set in space and be a Space Warrior that she is.

July 8, 2022 release date for Captain Marvel 2

They really need a villain this time that can challenge her. She was too powerful in Endgame for me, without the Power Stone Thanos would have been dead.
