Xbox Xbox Series X Thread

wow. I........don't think the reactions will be kind to this show. :(

For me, it was a disappointment and a fail for Xbox.

Yes, Fable exists. But after all that waiting, we just get a 30 second trailer that tells us really nothing more than that it exists. You're telling we couldn't have got that trailer last year at E3?

Obsidian's Avowed looked interesting, but looks like Skyrim.

If it weren't for those 2 games, this show would have been even more of a disaster. Halo looks great, but I'm not a Halo fan. It looked like more Halo.

No release date for Forza Motorsport.

No new Hellblade 2 trailer.

No surprise studio acquisition announcements. No major 3rd party title reveal, unless I missed it.

I'm sorry but nothing about this show got me excited for the Series X or Xbox. There were no "mic drop" or industry shaking moments.

And I know this is the Xbox thread and I don't want to be too negative. But......man........I didn't think this was good. :(

Maybe my expectations were just too high. But I really wanted Xbox to come out and wow and excite me. But they didn't, other than the brief tease for Fable and Avowed. But that's not enough, imo.

Is Halo: Infinite open world? The way the developer worded things made it seem like it
I want to say yes, like that was revealed a long time ago, but I can't find anything on that.

Yeah, even in the aftershow they kept saying that. I think it will have open world elements rather than being pure open world.

Is it possible it lives up to what Elder Scrolls has become? Unlike Fallout, Elder Scrolls still feels "prestigious" imo. I am sure the game will be really fun, but I wonder if it is a bit too pre-Skyrim for a lot of people.
Indeed, but I have faith in Obsidian making their own unique entry in the fantasy first-person RPG setting.

I think that is key. If it is their own unique spin, I could see this being a big one. I am watching the post-show on Gamespot, and when they showed it again, it really does have a LotR vibe, even more so then Elder Scrolls imo.

I was really hoping the Outerworlds trailer was for a sequel but a dlc story expansion is still good and about damn time

This is the new title I'm most excited for. Fantasy RPG is my ideal genre for them to be working on. They obviously need to do a bunch of things differently to Skyrim but I'm really excited to where they go with this.

The DLC was announced earlier this year.

I played Outer Worlds on Game Pass during my 1-dollar subscription so I will have to wait until another similar promo to play the DLC. Or whenever it gets released on Steam/GOG so I can give my money to Obsidian.

Knowing they're fans of old-school RPG, they may take inspiration from dead franchises like Ultima and Might & Magic.

Oh good to know. I'm really excited for this.

Gamepass is going to be such amazing value as the years go by and it gets more and more stuff.

Putting all the first party stuff on there right away has been super smart imo.

Some of the games revealed, I wouldn't be interested enough to purchase. Even on sale using extra microsoft reward points but with game pass..I could at least give them a chance by downloading them and trying out some levels

To be honest the whole event seems like it was a emergency event in response to the Sony event and nothing (top line games) was ready to actually show, Halo (sub par, poor graphics, load in textures, the last boss guy looked like something from 4 years ago if not longer..) , Hellblade 2 no footage at all, some lesser games, some add on's or upgrades, some bottom of the barrel games.

The fact they shoved the "available on game pass" down out throats to make sure we "believe" quantity is better than quality for this event.

Do not get me wrong, I am getting the XBsx the day it is released as I have been Xbox since the original (she kicks high). But if I was on the fence this event may have pushed me to Sony as this did nothing to show off the new systems power. In fact Halo looked like it was running on XB1s

Maybe MS does need to buy the WB devs.. Maybe only Batman can save the Xbox..;)

unfortunately, I have to agree with you.

The real winner and star of the July show was Game Pass, no question. But that came at the expense of the Series X, which almost felt like an afterthought.

Was anything shown at the event running on a Series X? Have we actually seen anything running on a Series X? Even with the games shown at the May event, it wasn't clear if those were running on a Series X, since it just said this is "representative" of what it will look like on the Series X.

With all the talk of the "most powerful console," MS hasn't really done a good job of actually showing off that console in action. If you are already committed to Xbox, then you will likely stick with Xbox and buy the Series X this holiday. But, as you said, if you're on the fence, then this July show really did nothing to convince you why you need to buy a Series X, especially this Holiday at launch.

If anything, it kind of told you to wait another few years until games like Fable, Avowed, Everwild, and the new Forza Motorsport actually come out to really show off the power of the Series X. But, that's not exactly the message you want to be sending to customers if you want to sell a brand new console later this year. But again, it's clear that the focus for MS is Game Pass, not the consoles.

For me, as a former Xbox owner who has grown increasingly jaded and frustrated with MS/Xbox for the past 4 or 5 years now, it's going to take something big, drastic, and industry shaking like MS buying up the WB studios to get me interested in the Xbox brand again.

However, even with that, my confidence and faith in MS (and even Phil Spencer) to actually deliver the goods has dropped so much that I may just lose interest in WB studio games if they get acquired by MS. Because now, I'm not sure if even that move can get me interested and excited for Xbox again.

So, with that said, I'll probably be visiting the Xbox threads less frequently going forward, unless I see posts from posters and my Hype friends that I want to respond to. But, aside from that, I think I'm done with Xbox.

For those of you here who are still on Xbox and plan to buy a Series X, then I wish you all the best and hope you can continue to enjoy the next-gen of gaming with the Xbox brand.

In a world of Spotify and Netflix, it's weird that the Game Pass is frowned upon. :hehe:

Like I said previously, MS can afford not selling their hardware. Heck, Sony will again "win" this next-gen to nobody's surprise but I don't think MS will care that much.

Sony has to show off that hardware because, without the PlayStation brand, what do they have in the consumer's world?

I've been an xbox guy since the very beginning when it launched(still like different companies/consoles though)and even I'm not completely sold on getting the series x first or even at all(if I decide on getting just one console). Free next gen game upgrades is cool and I love gamepass but something about the PS5 console itself interests me more!

I don't care about exclusives much but the ones I do, Halo is an xbox one game that will get an upgrade but won't be too drastic and Fable is probably at least 2 years away. Crossfire X interests me but enough as a major must play.

If Microsoft acquires WB games then yeah that would be an instant deal breaker and I go with Xbox though since Batman is my favorite comic character and I love me Bat Games and I want DC games as much as Marvel games. Plus, Mortal Kombat is my favorite fighting franchise and am a massive fan

to be fair, I don't feel like Sony has fully sold me on getting the PS5 at launch, either. While there were certainly more games shown at the PS5 event that interested me than at the Xbox event, I feel like neither Sony nor MS have truly presented that "killer" launch title that fully sells me on getting their next-gen console at launch.

If anything, it was that Unreal 5 tech demo that sold me more on next-gen than the Sony or MS events. And, since that Unreal 5 demo was shown on a PS5, by extension, that hyped me up for the PS5.

I feel like I'm leaning towards getting the PS5 at launch mainly because of my prior track record with Sony and Playstation, not just with the PS4 but going back to the PS1. So, I have a greater expectation that the games I'm interested in will continue to release on the PS5, but may or may not release on Xbox.

I'm also operating under the assumption that my backlog of PS4 games will carry over to the PS5 via BC. Of course, Sony still needs to clarify the full extent of their BC plans. If it turns out that only a handful of PS4 games will be BC on the PS5 at launch, that will definitely affect my decision to get the PS5 at launch. In that case, I may be more inclined to just wait.

I suspect the decision will become clearer once Sony and MS finalize their launch lineups, as well as other key details like that minor thing called price. We still don't know for sure what games are launching for each console this Holiday. Hopefully, the events in August will shed more light on that.

Kind of feels like we need the price and launch lineup for both consoles before expecting us to preorder.......lol.

true. it does feel like MS is slowly laying the groundworks for a possible exit of the console hardware business. If the PS5 outsells the Series X by a healthy margin like the PS4 did to the X1, then I wouldn't be surprised if we hear MS announce they will no longer make Xbox consoles and just focus on Game Pass and XCloud. Not saying this will happen, just that I wouldn't be shocked if it does.

At the very least, future Xbox consoles may take a much different form. Perhaps a small device like a Roku or Amazon Fire stick that just plugs into your TV and lets you stream games via Game Pass and XCloud.

Me getting a new console at launch is a maybe but most likely sometime next year after saving up money and going to Best Buy or Walmart for something and after seeing the consoles in stock, decide..alright I'll get one!

They usually have good bundles or offers like buy a console and get a $50 gift card. Best Buy also often has "Buy one, get one fee"/"Buy one, get a 2nd half off" game sale including new games

^yeah, I expect we'll see those console+game bundle deals starting next year, especially next Holiday/BF. Doubt we'll see those this year. You'll probably be extremely lucky to even find a new console in a retail store (or even online) this year. If you don't preorder fast, I think you'll be SOL finding a new console this Holiday.
