Wonder Woman 1984 General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

June 4, 2021 was a good date before F9 moved to May 28, 2021. F9 would eat into a lot of WW84's overseas box office.

Here is what I would do:
WW84 moves to Aug 6, 2021
TSS moves to Oct 1, 2021
Dune moves to Nov 24, 2021
Matt Reeve's "The Batman" is also going to be released in 2021.

Well we are breaking records for COVID every day (100k+ per day this week) so...yeah.

Interesting. I do wonder how that will blow over. They're probably waiting to see how Soul does on Disney+ before they commit to this. Nobody's charging extra for films on streaming anymore. Unless it's like $10, maybe. Disney+ already has like 15M more subscribers than HBO/HBOmax so they'd have to do some math to correctly compare. Lol

WTF? If they still plan on a theatrical release in Dec and then putting it on HBO Max a few weeks later, why didn't they just do this last month when things were better? Theaters that were open last month are closed now and will definitely be closed next month as cases keep going up. I hate this studio.

Theyre gonna move it to June. Guaranteed. Its not going on HBO Max. As much as I as a consumer and fan would love it thats literally throwing 200 million away. They came this far, whats an additional 6 months.

Now, if things are STILL bad in June then anything is on the table at that point.

WB should have announced that they are moving this to April/ May 2021 by now, I don't know why they keep dragging their feet, I suppose it's about showing how they still earned money at Bx Office in 2020 despite COVID-19, it's about showing their Investors, how the Studio is still performing. It's just to show some figures in this year's balance-sheet, but they don't realize is the fact that 2020 is Over.

2020 was over the moment Coronavirus hit.

No point in releasing this in December now. Who would even go to theatres? In some countries it wouldn't even be a choice as they'd all be closed anyway.

According to Gavin Feng, "WB has talked with local bureau and applied for Dec.18 in China"

I am going to be so pissed off if I can't watch this movie in IMAX. I could have watched this in theaters last month.

Just saw some people on Twitter demanding this to be sold off to Disney+, if money is all that WB cares for.

Every day the US breaks a new record in cases and HBO Max is still not on Roku or Firestick

A release in December shouldn't even be an option

Even if they push it to Summer 2021 it’s still not a guarantee things will get better by then especially since a lot of Americans are still being stupid about about wearing of masks and following proper health guidelines. Sure, America will have much better leadership by then, but it will really take the willing cooperation of more of the populace to really mitigate the virus. Cooperation that much of the US has been shown unwilling to do. Not to mention Summer 2021 is super packed and the movie is going to have a lot of competition.

The other option of doing a short theatrical release before dumping it on HBO Max is a laughably dumb strategy that’s only bound to lose money. Now they will lose money no matter what they do, but this would be a boneheaded decision that doesn’t benefit no one - because hardly anybody is going to movies now. Sorry Warners, but I’m afraid if you release the movie in theaters you’re bound for failure. I understand that you want to preserve the theatrical experience, but c’mon this ain’t the way to go. HBO Max isn’t even available internationally, and isn’t that popular of a streaming service.

Which means between the two options, I’d choose the option to to push the movie to sometime in 2021. Maybe fall instead of summer.

I wonder why it’s taking so long for them to announce something either way...

WB is going to wait till we in December to announce the delay again. For whatever reason.

It's happening

For the first time ever, Wonder Woman 1984 will release in theaters and stream exclusively on HBO Max* on the exact same day. December 25.

Took a screenshot before the vid was taken down. Was published as unlisted on WB's official YT page
