LOKI General Discussion Thread

Is Richard E Grant in this show? What are the chances he's just another version of Loki?

He is. Im sure he will get the "with Richard E. Grant" in the credits and I am sure he will be an old version of Loki.

REG looks like an older Tom Hiddelston...no doubt who he is.
Still a little hope, he surprisingly turns out being one of the Timekeepers or He who remains

Has that been confirmed he is also playing Loki?

This show and really whatever Dr. S:MoM shows is really going to demonstrate how far the MCU has come since 2008. They opened with a movie about a not wholly unrealistic suit of armor. Shifted to genetically modified "monsters", Gods, War Heroes, then a massive film team up. All about as grounded as they could be even when they touched on a raccoon with a machine gun riding a talking tree.

With this though they're going full on comics on the screen. There's multiple versions of the same characters to keep straight, rewinds, infinitely powerful cosmic beings, etc. What's even more amazing is they're doing it well and without contradicting much that's come before. This is going to be a heck of a ride.

I'm really looking forward to seeing more of the cosmic beings. Can't wait to see more Celestials (hopefully in Imax) when Eternals comes out. And with vague hints towards beings like Eternity and the Living Tribunal I hope they show up sometime.

haha awesome

It's funny because from what I've seen, Loki hasn't been as heavily marketed as WandaVision and TFATWS were. But that could just be me. Then again, Loki has always been the more popular character in the MCU compared to Wanda, Vision, Sam and Bucky so it should come as no surprise that his show brought in more viewers.

So technically the Loki series is happening in 2012 correct? Since it’s the Loki from 2012 that is the variant and all this is happening in real time. That means technically it’s 12 years behind the movie timeline since Infinity War was in 2019 and then Endgame was 5 years after that.

So assuming there’s some game changer that shapes the MCU go forward, why wouldn’t we have seen its impact sooner since the show is set in the past?

It happened after End Game due to episode one in which

scenes of original Loki in The Dark World, Ragnarok and the death in Infinity War were shown

I don't know about that explanation because
Mobius was showing Loki what happens to him in the future. That means they're still in 2012. It's not like it already happened. We, the audience, know it happened, but that's because we've seen how things play out all the way to Endgame.

Yeah the TVA is sort of like it's own timeline beside the sacred timeline.

It is a shame that things are a bit backwards as Dr.Strange 2 was suppose to come out May this year. Not sure how much they had set up but you would think the movie plot on timelines and realities will be bigger than a series. Dr2 changed directors so now were they rewriting parts to fit the TVA and Loki storylines or is the show the same and playing off of what we were suppose to know a bit of in Dr2?

Fortunately, due to COVID, a lot of the shooting for MoM was pushed which gave them more time, probably, to make tweaks to the script. Waldron already confirmed that being the writer of both Loki and MoM means he’s responsible for following up on some of the plot lines he’s developed versus letting another writing come in to “clean up the mess”. I interpreted this as things done in Loki will have an impact on MoM, not the other way around which was likely the original plan.

I'm really enjoying this show. So far it has the potential to be the best D+ show. I liked WandaVision a lot in the first two episodes, but I'm preferring this right now. Just a great usage of Loki as a main character and how his usual tricks are working against him. I'm looking forward to seeing his journey. It has that Rick and Morty comedic existential nihilism (that Pompeii scene :funny:) and creative zaniness that is very inspired. I'm so impressed by the exposition and how they managed to execute it. That is not easy to do. But I think the key is that it's grounded in the very character focused direction they've taken it. Knowing Waldron is the writer of the Feige SW movie, it makes me more optimistic about they can bring to SW what they brought to this. The TVA city is the type of thing I want to see in a SW movie.

The writer Michael Waldron said that the events of this show will have a ripple effect through the whole MCU. That would be interesting considering how some of the heroes fit into that. I think he means that Kang is possibly going to be the Big Bad for Avengers 5.
