The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

What about Bautista? Do people still think he’s in the film after those cryptic social posts? I saw recent speculation that he could be Mongul. That feels kinda perfect for him, though I’m not sure how Mongul will fit into the story that Gunn seems to be crafting in this movie. Maybe Bizarro though? He could fit in very easy with a Lex-centric villain plot. Gunn featured an image of the Superman family (with Bizarro) on his social media today along with a bunch of other images and said these were some of his inspirations. It got me thinking about possibly seeing Bizarro in this film and I could see Bautista playing him. I think there is a lot of interesting territory you can go into with Bizarro as Superman has to do battle with him but also ultimately ends up helping him because Bizarro isn’t inherently evil.

If I were to guess, I’d suspect if Bautista is in this, he’s probably Brainiac. Wouldn’t say no to Mongul, though! He was my original fancast for that character, after all!

The fact that he was specifically talking about how he’s not done with CBM’s and wanted to play an ominous villain next kinda gives me the impression he’s already got a role lined up somewhere in the DCU at least.

I really, REALLY can’t see Bautista as Brainiac. That feels like such a miscast for me. Bautista seems like a really cool guy in real life but I’m sorry… I can’t buy him as the most intelligent being in the galaxy. Especially after watching Dune 2 last night, lol.

He wouldn’t have been my top choice, but I can see it working. He’s a good actor capable of quiet, more contemplative characters, and it seems like he’s more interested in playing those types on the villain front going forward. He wants to break away from his usual type, and I could see Gunn wanting to give him that chance. And I’d be good with it. I could see him doing a really cold, detached performance very easily.

I don't see the appeal about Bautista and never have done. To me, he's just Gunn's Tor Johnson.

Maybe. He is good in quieter roles like Blade Runner 2049 or that M. Night Shayamalan movie (I had issues with that film but he wasn’t one of them). Just not sure if Brainiac is in his wheelhouse.

Batista has been my top pick for Mongul, especially since he's been wanting a meatier role.

Batista? That'd be a great Mogul.

Yeah, he seems like a perfect fit for that role, IMO. Hell, he literally LOOKS like Mongul. And since Gunn used Mongal in The Suicide Squad, he might have a soft spot for him.

It’d be nice to see Gunn set Mongul (and ideally, eventually, Darkseid) apart from Thanos by going mostly practical.

I'd love Dave as mongul.
I'd want Tilda Swinton for Brainiac. She has that unisex vibe.
Darkseid ( if we got him ) would most likely be CG, and he need a brilliant deep voice for that.
Clancy Brown maybe? I know he was the voice of Lex in the animated series

I feel Tilda Swinton is typecast as these kinds of characters. I'd rather someone out of left field that surprises us.

I think it'd be cool if Brainiac had like 3 host who's bodies he's hijacked. So then we could have three physical threats that share one mind. With the primary Brainiac being the completely robotic skull face Brainiac.

I've always been a fan of Brainiac's more monstrous, insectoid-looking variations ala

It'd be cool to have Brainiac arrive on Earth in such a form before downloading part of the worldwide web in the second act and having him evolve his body in order to accommodate all the information. Only, he'd be interrupted halfway through by Superman. So you'd have two distinct forms for the first two acts, respectively. Then in the third act he'd able to complete his assimilation of Earth history, finally evolving him into his traditional, more iconic form, i.e., the green muscly man in a bodysuit. It'd be an evolution not too dissimilar to Cell in DBZ.

A solid take.

There are several approaches to Brainiac I'd be down with, honestly. There are so many ways the character can work and be interesting. Just don't make him the generic invading alien force we've seen a million times now in these types of movies by now.

I'd love a council of Brainiacs or something of the like. All one mind and all one goal and that's to assimilate the universe. Maybe Brainiac can turn matter into data. And Kandor exist in a data drive of sorts.

A disembodied Coluan who evolved beyond his physical form and controls various drones with his artificial consciousness. He could be humanoid, reptilian, insectoid. They could do a lot with him.

Feel like they’re probably aiming older and IMO I think he’s got a more substantial role in him (I could see him for Booster Gold), but I could go for Jimmy Tatro as Steve Lombard.

I’m not familiar with that dude but I’m going to say no simply because that gif is grossing me out. :funny:

I never thought I'd see Jimmy Tatro (who'd be great) as a casting choice on the Hype :funny:

Too young in my opinion, I think Lombard shoud be a guy at the very least on his 40s, desperately trying to clinge to his prime.

Of the wrestlers turned actors Bautista is the most skilled by a very significant margin. He is absolutely capable of pulling off Brainiac.
