It's a Bird! It's a Plane! David Corenswet IS Superman!

Yeah, one thing that the marketing needs to do is showcase Superman himself. In the marketing for both Snyder’s and Singer’s Superman films, it was like they tried to hide the performance (and after seeing those performances, it made sense). David is a better actor than both of those guys and Gunn is a better director, so hopefully the trailers will really showcase a charismatic performance by the lead.

What I never understood about both those films, is how few lines Synder and Singer gave Cavill / Routh.

It felt like Cavill had 1 line of dialogue before he put the suit on.

Compared to Bale in Batman Begins, where you really feel like you go on the journey with Bruce Wayne.

Yeah. You could tell that both directors and the writing teams didn’t know how to write Superman so they just found ways to have him not speak unless he absolutely had to. Compare that to Reeve’s relaxed, charming delivery when he has his first public outing as Superman, flying around and saving people (and cats!). I really, really hope we get a return to that type of Superman with David.

His first appearance as superman to us should be a love letter to the fans and public.
An epic save, with nothing to do with the villain or plot. Just Superman being Superman, with the new theme blasting.

Imagine him saving a sinking cruise ship or aircraft carrier, and sitting it down on the wharves at Metropolis harbor.

Looking back, it's actually surprising that Singer didn't simply cast Marsden as Superman when you consider how they'd obviously worked together before and he doesn't look majorly dissimilar to Reeve. He was also arguably much more of a natural fit for Superman than Routh was, even despite his shorter stature which is easily worked around through camera angles and other movie magic trickery. :whoops:

Ah yes. You just reminded me that Singer ruined TWO of my favorite superheroes, Superman AND Cyclops. To be clear, Marsden was a good pick for Scott. Unfortunately, he was written as a boy band-listening, lovesick puppy who can’t go five minutes without screaming, “Jean! Noooo!”

Hindsight is 20/20, but if singer had it to do over, I imagine he would have cast a different actress for lois ( an older one ), had no superkid, made lex more serious, and added in a supervillain like metallo.
If he would have did it the same, then he's an idiot.

Singer's own words
"If I'm really honest, what I probably would have done is go back and retell the origin story with someone like Nicholas Hoult [playing Clark Kent/Superman]," he said.

"I would have done it differently from Richard Donner's original, which I love, but instead of doing a sequel I'd have started from the beginning - maybe I had that in the back of my mind and instead translated it to X-Men: First Class!"
Funny how Hoult was brought up.

Spacey recommended Bosworth right?

Yep, it seemed that Keri Russell had it before that.

Didn't even know that, but Keri Russell could have been great, probably not with SR's script though, but a great casting choice.

Although to be fair, Bosworth wasn't the worst choice at the time either, however her dialog & the way Lois was written in SR, the character came across as quite unlikeable.

I think on the whole, both in terms of story and aesthetics and some of the casting, their approach to Superman Returns was poorly conceived. It should have been a new standalone story removed from the Donner films. I think Routh could have done a good job as a more upbeat Superman who doesn't watch his ex through windows. Is that why it's called ex-ray vision? :beaming:

Yeah, David was my #1 pick for years after seeing him in Hollywood and The Politician. And Rachel was my #1 pick for Lois after seeing her in Mrs. Maisel. I still can’t believe my top two choices ended up getting the roles! The day it was announced seriously felt like I won the nerd lottery! Lol
This feels kind of unique. I rarely do personal casting choices as so often it’s been people totally unrelated to the discussions who have ended up with the role. Really felt like we all won big when they went with both of the Hype’s no.1 choices for the leads with this.

I didn't really have a favorite this time for Superman and Lois.
For me, the character of Superman, like James Bond, is much bigger than any one actor.

It bothers me to hear people say "I refuse to see it because they recast my guy".
or...

This should be the default way of thinking.

I like Cavill a lot and was disappointed when he was let go, as I felt MOS deserved a sequel - and after all the stuff his version of the character went through (dying in BvS, moustach-gate, etc) he should have had a decent standalone film where he could just be the upbeat version of Superman we all like. However my love for the character is greater than for any actor and I'm excited to see what Coronswet will bring to the role. Physically, the dude is already there.

I agree with you guys but I do have to say… knowing that my top two choices (David and Rachel) were up for the roles, it would have hurt a LOT to wake up one morning and hear that Tim Britney and Phoebe Divinyls had been cast as Superman and Lois, lol.

Imagine getting in your news feed "IT'S BRITNEY B***H!!!!"
What a riot.

Same. Knowing we came THIS close to greatness would’ve been a tougher pill to swallow than if they’d never been up for it at all. :funny:

Cavill was my fancast back in the day long before he was cast. I remember the high of his casting and that feeling of having won the lottery.

I used to feel like he was just poorly used, but the more I see of him in other roles, the more I accept that he's just quite wooden and that was never going to work for me for Supes.

For Geralt? Perfect.

I like Cavill but do think most people will get over him rather quickly. David looks like a younger version of Cavill by default, and his movies will no doubt be better from a Superman perspective.

Were you talking about Phoebe Dynevor (the Bridgerton lady)?

Yup. Fairly or unfairly, he's the face of Snyder's reign and a great many people just want to leave all that in the past.

If Gunn can do half as well for Superman as he did for gotg, then we have a hit.
I have a feeling he will pour even more of his heart and soul into Superman.

If she still wants to play a reporter, she can be Iris West

Edit: I take that back, I'd rather have Emma Mackay:o
