Our "Space Princess": David Corenswet IS Clark Kent/Superman!

I think it just won't be comedic on the way that Guardians and TSS are, where the humor is mostly derived from the characters bickering and quipping at each other.

We'll definitely see Lois being chaotic, Jimmy getting himself in trouble, Perry yelling, etc. Humor is very much part of Superman.

Hope I'm making sense here.
I think it 100% will be that given the movie seems poised to heavily feature the Daily Planet group dynamic as well as a quirky team of dysfunctional oddball superheroes. Clark just isn't going to be an unhinged psycho like Peacemaker or an emotionally stunted manchild like Star Lord.

It is very much a part of Superman, I don't disagree at all. All of this is a good thing! I'd have been perfectly fine with a dead serious Superman movie, if Man of Steel weren't written by a hack and directed by a moron it'd be pretty near an ideal Superman movie for me, but I am all for a colourful silly take that is also emotionally grounded with moments of darkness. Gunn is beyond suited to that.

I suspect Gunn is a fan of Matt Fraction’s Jimmy Olsen comic, and therefore fully expect Jimmy to be a central comedic figure in this. Lombard and Grant too. Also yeah, Clark’s gonna have a playful side and be a bit of a goof, Lois will be very snarky, and Guy and Metamorpho are there for comedic banter within the other superhero group I’m sure.

I’m on the fence about Lex though. I actually DON’T think he’ll be played for laughs much, given Gunn’s comments on the character and what he didn’t like about previous versions. I kind of expect him to have a rather dark sense of humor, where he thinks something’s funny that no one else would, but idk.

Humor is inherent to the best Supes comics, so that’s one aspect I’m looking forward to the younger members of the GA being introduced to. I feel like a lot of Supes’ erroneous “he’s boring” reputation with the younger crowd comes from his modern cinematic takes having been pretty humorless.
I don't think he'll be super wacky but the commonality between Hoult and the Skarsgaard brothers is them being good at dark, weird humour. Based on that extremely circumstantial information my money is on his characterization being a lot like Morrison's - a complex character and a serious threat but also vain to the point of absurdity.

I'm generally curious. Has Gunn ever said if this is set in modern times?
I'm assuming it is since it's connected to the other DCU films.
The reason I ask is the timeline it's in will determine how this Clark dresses.

He can't very well dress like a dork, ie, hat, full suit, etc, if it's set in modern times, because that would draw even more attention to himself.

I don't think it's been confirmed, but I'm hoping it's not set in the past personally.

I saw a blown up picture of the table read selfie. Corenswet looks massive next to Hoult. I think when we finally get the pick of David in the suit he will be the most accurate looking Superman we have seen on the big screen.

I’m really tickled pink to see the same fandom that responded to Corenswet’s casting by *****ing about how he looked too much like Cavill for it to be necessary… are now saying he looks too dorky to be Superman.

Which is it, nutjobs?

At least we still have the Fandom thirsting over the first pics of him in a skintight suit. :o

If some are acting like they won't see the film over a non-typical shield, I couldn't imagine the reaction to a half-naked w chains look

I’m not an expert on his filmography by any means, but in general, the Gunn films that I’ve seen derive their comedy from the heroes and quirky side characters. The villains arent typically comedic at all that I can recall. They tend to be shown as too stiff to be in on the humor. It’s one of his methods he seems to use to make the villain unrelatable and to give the audience a signal that “hey, this super serious guy is the one that you aren’t supposed to like.”

Yeah, David was my #1 pick for years after seeing him in Hollywood and The Politician. And Rachel was my #1 pick for Lois after seeing her in Mrs. Maisel. I still can’t believe my top two choices ended up getting the roles! The day it was announced seriously felt like I won the nerd lottery! Lol

The obvious choice was the way to go here. He looks like Superman should. I liked Cavill but a complete fresh start was the right move.

Yeah, he clearly has the acting chops for it. Combine that with what should be an actual good script, I think he'll be cemented as Superman pretty darn quickly.

I've learned NOT to get my hopes up over any actor.
That said, it's as much the directors fault as the actors if they don't connect with us.

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far Tho.
I would hope Gunn gives us a trailer that really shows David's acting chops, convince us that he's "the man".

Yeah, one thing that the marketing needs to do is showcase Superman himself. In the marketing for both Snyder’s and Singer’s Superman films, it was like they tried to hide the performance (and after seeing those performances, it made sense). David is a better actor than both of those guys and Gunn is a better director, so hopefully the trailers will really showcase a charismatic performance by the lead.
