I'm Reading Your Stuff: General News and Discussion Thread

I think a Part 3 may be unlikely. And honestly, I wouldn't be upset if that's the case so long as part II is a satisfying ending.

Exactly what i was thinking but dont want to admit it because of the lost potential of this universe if that becomes factual.

Shudders.......Mr Freeze with glowing red eyes walking through a snowy Gotham. Too much untapped imagery.

I think that’s a bit of a leap.
I hope it is. But I'm mainly basing it off of how long part II is taking. Also remember that the first film had a long writing process as well, and we know Reeves likes to take his time. I hope we get a part III.

I still need this. Freeze has been my #1 choice for a villain for a while now, and just picture him in a snowy Gotham with Frasers cinematography is just *chefs kiss*.

If Reeves stops at a duology, that will mean Nolan would still be the only director to helm a Batman trilogy. That's crazy!

What's the odds they just split the follow-up into two movies like was done with Dune and Mockingjay and Mission Impossible and Fast and Furious? That might be the fastest way to get III out before 2031.

Why would Part II taking just as long as Part I mean there woulnd't be a Part III tho.

I just have a feeling that with Gunns new universe getting started, brave and the bold being in the works, and all of those things combined, it just doesn't seem like a safe bet. But maybe it's just because I'm a little bummed about the delay.

Noooooooooooooooooooo!

Eh, it is what it is, but this is pretty disappointing; albeit totally expected. I was pretty uneasy about this actually being a trilogy, but dammit, I just want another 3 hour showcase of the Reeves-verse.

i am not happy with this news.

i don't care about gunn's brave and the bold.

I don’t know what’s going on with the film, but all the talk lately about actors like Jeffrey Wright not having seen a script definitely has me concerned that it was being pushed back.

I worry that Reeves’ Batman films are in a bit of an odd place. TB was, for my money, probably the best all around Batman film we’ve ever had. I feel like Reeves and Pattinson nailed the character and Gotham in ways that no one (not even Nolan who I also like very much) had before. But I think the film also turned some more casual fans off for a few reasons. To be clear, I don’t know any of this for sure; I’m just basing it off word of mouth from friends and others I’ve discussed the movie with.

1. The length. I personally love a long movie if it’s good. Dune 2 and Killers of the Flower Moon were amazing and I wouldn’t cut anything from them. And The Batman is the same way. But I had friends, some of which are big superhero movie fans (who don’t seem to have fatigue for the genre) who STILL haven’t seen it. And when I ask them why, they usually mention the length. So perhaps if Reeves had tightened up the runtime a bit, the movie would have made more money and more people would have seen it. If we’re talking simple mathematics here, it would have had more showtimes. So the length may have been a factor.

2. Batman fatigue. Not superhero fatigue necessarily, but I think some moviegoers are a little burned out on Batman. Maybe not, but after Nolan’s movies, Snyder’s films, shows like Gotham and Titans, video games, etc., I think some people are a little burned out on the Caped Crusader.

3. Some of you will hate me for this one. But I think there is some stigma around Pattinson. To be clear, I love his take on Batman. It’s my personal favorite, and I say that as a huge fan of Bale and Keaton. But… I know a considerable number of people who just didn’t think he was right for the role or only see him as the Twilight guy. Bear in mind, these are mostly people who haven’t seen the film. And believe me, I tried to convince them that they should because I believe he would win them over. But most of them still haven’t. It’s frustrating. Again, I don’t know how much of a factor this played into TB’s box office. And I’m not saying they should have cast someone else. I don’t think that at all. I’m simply pointing out that some (ignorant) fans just refused to accept him in the role. Which honestly is stupid; I might hate Affleck’s take on Batman but at least my opinion that he sucks was formed by watching him fumble through BvS and JL like a guy out of his depth.

Anyway, none of these factors proved damning to the film, which still pulled in a very impressive box office of $772 million. But this is WB we’re talking about here, and you know that they think ANY Batman movie should easily top a billion. And to be fair to them, they have good reason to think so when Nolan’s last two films did so and then Joker did the same. So while The Batman made a lot of money and was well respected by critics, the fact that it didn’t make as much as Nolan’s movies or quite achieve the critical acclaim that some of his films did might make WB uncertain of the future of Reeves’ universe. I don’t know what will happen. I do expect we’ll see Part 2, just a little later than we thought. But I’m not sure about Part 3 and any other spinoffs. I hope so though.

I mean, Part II didn't seem like a safe bet when Part I was 2 years away either, and that was all in the midst of even more ridiculous behind the scenes situations. But I get your point. I think we're all just thinking the worst cause info we didn't want came out.

We don't even know if Bold is a priority rn. Gunn seems honed in on the Superman and Peacemaker side of things atm. But who knows, I guess. Anything could happen.

Pattinson being 40 when part II comes out is kinda funny when you consider this was supposed to be young, just starting out Batman

See now there’s no excuse for not having a Robin next to this old ass man :p

Well ,if it only ends up being two films , and Reeves has told the characters arc and story he wants to tell through two films , then that fine by me.

I personally don't need a trilogy, for the sake of having a trilogy.

If Reeves feels his story is done after The Batman 2 , then that's how it is.

But, if he needs three films and has a great story for the third, then I'm fine with that as well.

The idea of Pattinson as a rookie Batman at 35 years old was dumb to begin with. Don't care how young some may think he looks.

What I find hilarious about this is that part 2 could now be affected by another potential strike in 2026. I kind of want that to happen now.

I mean he’s still a young looking guy but it’s just funny to think about, especially if trilogy is still the plan

Dude. Strike was resolved in end of 2023. 4 year contract. It’s gonna be 2027 when it’s time to re negotiate. There is no potential strike in 2026. Also realize filming will be conducted in 2025 sooo…

You guys know it’s been confirmed time and time again this is a trilogy and it’s not in the DCU (if that even becomes a thing which remains to be seen)

The article just today re confirmed Roberts 3 picture deal. What are we doing with this duology talk? Are we just bored? Not reading?

this is Warner Bros we’re talking about, their plans could change in the next 5 seconds and it would surprise no one.

Nothing means anything until it actually happens (and even then, it could be considered a tax write off), that should be the motto under any David Zaslav led company

WGA and SAG-AFTRA contracts are up by May 1, 2026 and June 30, 2026 respectively.

And plenty of already-finished films were affected by the strike.
