I wondered if this forum would have this little "argument" lol

This movie is obviously in the same universe as the first and the majority of their recent/upcoming films.

Gunn went out of his way to say the film doesn't contradict anything from the first. Why would he say that if it's in another universe and it wouldn't matter? Also, it doesn't matter anyway. Lol Suicide Squad sucks. Nobody's going back to watch that to "get" this one. The only thing they'd need to carry over are some characters and that's precisely what they did.

He wasn’t a random in, he was one of the original Guardians Starhawk/Stakar.

Yep, Starhawk was the leader of the old Guardians also, it was a good way to introduce them to the movie-verse.
