Alice Braga commented on #CCXPWorlds that Sol Soria is a very strong character and that she leads a rebel army that will cross the path of the Suicide Squad.

joel kinnaman recently said the film is a reboot.....that's not surprising, but still seem weird on Gunn part, i guess they will not mention the first mission they did, joker, Deadshot, Katana , Croc, Diablo ?

Maybe that mission never happened? He said this was a whole new universe so those characters probably don't exist yet

Idk if it truly matters. I also don't think they're using the terms like how we might use them. Cathy Yan said the same thing, then Quinn stopped the whole film to point out Boomerang, plus Joker is all over it.

Actors are playing the same characters so I think its safe to say it's in the same world/universe. It just won't rely on SS to tell the story, and it doesn't need to. They don't need to act is if the events of the first film didn't happen, but they also don't need to lean on them to tell a good story. They could even name drop "Harley's old boyfriend" or Diablo or Katana without compromising the film.

Playing the "same" characters doesn't mean it's the same universe. Just look at Doom Patrol

It's pretty clear at this point that this movie isn't part of any universe other than it's own. WB just needs to publicly confirm it like they did Reeves Batman so that fans and geek sites can stop pretending a shared universe still exists

Yeah she really tried to sell how it didn’t follow on from Squad and then there were lots of little things that linked it. Plus she used actual footage from it too lol

I get the feeling it’s more of a soft reboot than a full on reboot. I reckon they just won’t really mention the first one but some of the characters that are back will know each other.

I think people just use reboot as a catch all term. Sometimes it is used when things reset, sometimes when there is small changes, sometimes for recastings and even when a tv show comes back after 20 years they call it a reboot. The jargon gets all jumbled up so no one knows what anything means anymore.

Just because the film is likely not going to reference the previous one doesn't make it a reboot any more than every James Bond Film is a reboot. (they almost never reference previous films...or at least they didn't before recently) There is way too much of the cast back. Even if they pretended it wasn't the same universe the audience isn't going to buy into that or even really care. That is why Gunn and the cast are just saying "this is its own thing". It is a standalone story in that it doesn't need you to see Ayer's film or really any of the other DCEU stuff but that doesn't mean it isn't in line with those films. Certain people though latch on to those comments, or someone mentioning reboot and jump to massive conclusions without looking at the actual facts that are out there. (especially the extremes of the Anti or Pro DCEU argument)

With the way HBO MAX is releasing the trailers, GvK and MK 2 months before release, I don't expect a SS trailer until late May/early June.

They went out of their way to clarify it for The Batman and Joker because that was the reality of the situation. There’s no “confirmation” here because it likey is indeed still set in the world MoS created, but they just aren’t leaning on that aspect of it all to tell this story, so in the end it hardly even matters.

Shazam did it. Aquaman did it. BoP did it. This can do it too.

And how does a shared universe not exist? Lol Flash is bridging entire universes and Black Adam and Shazam are dying to come together. It’s just not a “you have to see this to see the next one” sort of situation. They aren’t selling one big show to follow. They’re selling multiple shows that offer different things.

Or maybe they haven't confirmed anything because they're incompetent. It took them years to confirm Batman after all. We got producers and actors telling us this is a reboot and how it's a "whole new universe". That's more than enough

If Black Adam and Shazam were "dying" to come together The Rock and his team would be collaborating with David Sandberg, but they're not. If you think Flash talking to Keaton temporarily constitutes a shared universe then that's all you

But they didn't come out and clarify stuff for other films that exist within that world because they didn't need to. They set the precedent by announcing it with Joker and The Batman. Who cares how long it takes to confirm? And Yan said the same thing yet BoP still referenced characters and moments from the world MoS started. Actors and producers and directors don't use those words like us. They're just trying to sell the film as a different film then the film no one liked 5 years ago.

You're not really thinking any bigger than what you see. Black Adam being in development for years, then Shazam being made before it, alluding to Adam in it kinda shows you what they'd like to gear up towards, no? It's pretty evident to me. They don't need to be in constant collaboration today for that to work later.

And Flash "talking to Keaton" isn't all I'm talking about (gotta strong feeling they're gonna restore the world or some wild **** by the end of Flash but okay). If the events of that film affects or sparks other films, and it may, that does constitute a shared universe. The Flash being set up in a TV show a year before the film even starts shooting constitutes a shared universe. It might not be as sprawling and interconnected as some might want it to be, but those are certainly parts of plans that are being worked, no matter how small they may seem or slow they may take.

And all the while they can still make films that don't affect some greater story or affect the shared universe or even exist in the same universe as other things. They can do anything.

'The Suicide Squad' Official Synopsis Teases a New Crew & Another Bonkers Mission

Warner Bros. has finally released the official synopsis for The Suicide Squad. It reads:

"Welcome to hell — a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese."

"Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and- destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave...and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them."

(Deadline has since rewritten/re-titled the article as James E. Gunn. RIP.)
