Discussion: UK Politics

There's more to that story than is being told i bet....you don't randomly arrest a journalist for criminal damage if they've taken photos

In the past I would agree but since the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts (PCSC) Bill was mooted there have been increasing reports of Police making beelines for people doing nothing more than recording or documenting their actions, as well as going after clearly advertised and prescribed legal observers who are not participating and only there to monitor the Police to check human rights are being upheld. On top of that you have Priti Patel ('nuff said about her - absolutely evil) and top Police who have been found in the past few days to have misled the public about injuries sustained by officers and you have to wonder.

I'm a Civil Servant that works for the Government and I'm afraid about where we are headed with this wave of Nationalism and apparent rise of Police state. Put it this way, how many of us in the U.K. who have a healthy, balanced news input (i.e. not just the BBC or SKY) can go through this checklist:

And honestly say that they arent seeing any of that now? I see near enough if not all on that list.

The nation is currently riding a wave of increasing Nationalism and Authoritarianism were we are obsessed with how many flags we have on display while at the same time quashing the right to protest.

Haha. Too thick to listen when it counted and now mucked it up for themselves.

The overblown media (BBC in particular) reaction to his death has made me more keen than ever to become a republic.

So am I the only one a bit concerned that the PM is skint? First the food parcels from JCB, then the decorating now asking donors to fund his child care? There's been rumours for a while but I never imagined they were true.

Johnson has about six or seven kids that we know of. Probably more out there given how much he gets around.

Aye from the party that says you shouldn't have kids if you can't afford them. To use the old Daily Mail trope "I bet he's got a big TV, sky and a smartphone whilst he's relying on others to pay for his kids"

As a party they just seem done, the momentum wing is so far removed from the voterbase they've relied on. Who do they actually represent?

Boris is seen the PM who finally listened to the public and gave them what they asked for with Brexit, I'm not sure that can be beaten.
Labour are so divided it's a joke. Plus they've had too many poor leaders in a row. Who knows what could have happened if they had got David Milliband instead of Ed.

Boris doesn't seem too popular right now with left or right but he's got no opposition and is incumbent. Kier Starmer doesn't have enough name recognition yet either.

It's not a very highly paid job given the responsibility. The PMs usually rake it in after they leave office.

Bad news for the rest of us who lose them. :csad:
I'd blame everyone voting for the Tories, but Starmer and the rest of the Blair wing of the current Labour party have given zero reason to vote for them. I have never seen a man who says less with how many words Starmer says.

Starmer has built no profile as leader yet. He needs to get started with a bit of urgency or it’s going to be an automatic loss. Labour’s leadership has made it easy for the Tories for a very long time and let them get away with many mistakes. Also the Tories were getting a very had time over their weak virus response here, even from the right, but have now managed to turn opinion around to an extent with the vaccination programme.
