‘Dunk and Egg’ Series in the Works

Best comparison to make is they're a hybrid of the sad, deconstructionist tone of A Song of Ice and Fire (almost all the thematic stuff it draws on is the stuff that was pretty much completely removed from GoT so, that'll be interesting) and fun, swashbuckling adventure in the vein of The Princess Bride. They're beautiful novellas.

Excited for this. Not sure if I love them adapting Martin material where they're going to eventually have to start coming up with it on their own again since Martin ain't finishing these stories anytime soon if ever sadly, but that's less inherently a bad thing and more D&D induced trauma.

I was pretty annoyed at the prospect of them milking ASOIAF for more than one prequel, I'm as diehard a fan as they come but I'd like it to remain somewhat special. This I'll happily take though, especially because it's completely distinct from House of the Dragon.

Oh this could be interesting. Make it a dirty buddy comedy with elements of a road movie set in Westeros.

I have so much reading material to get through, just out of stuff I’ve already bought, but I’m contemplating picking up the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms collection.

Especially if this ends up being the next GOT project that HBO gives the green light.

I bought an old hardback version of the collected stories years ago.

They’re fantastic, though a bit restrained and “decaf” compared to pure Martin-level adult content - arguably the only reason I didn’t I put it in my 6th grade classroom was one risqué picture and like four sentences throughout all the novellas.

*If* they get around to successfully adapt it, though… I would put money on the idea that we’d either start before the book series proper, or get large flashback episodes. The First Blackfyre Rebellion is too epic, too cool, and it’s participants too important to Dunk and Egg’s overall lives to be background material; it’s sort of like how we’re starting with much of the background of the Dance of the Dragons, on House of the Dragon.

Both the Dance and the Rebellions have important stuff going down before later major characters are even born, and of HBO continues to be confident in having GoT fans show up early in large numbers… “feeding” the fandom some epic scenes is then something they can budget for.

I've been thinking - this could finally be our chance to get Jason Isaacs as a Targaryen. I could totally see him as either Maekar or Bloodraven in this era. He's too old for them at the start of Hedge Knight, but the adults are always aged beyond their years, they could definitely make it work.

How about as Bittersteel, who’s older than both of them?

Exciting stuff, but they really gotta trim that title.

…I was not aware that Egg was a child.
