The Acolyte from Leslye Headland

This is probably the only SW show I'm interested in other than Obi-Wan.

Bit from the Vanity Fair article, really confirming High Republic stuff.

To endure, Star Wars will need new actors, new characters, and a new era, vaulting away from the timeline as we know it. Another upcoming series, The Acolyte, reportedly starring Amandla Stenberg, aims to do that. The show is in the casting phase, but the writing is largely complete, says showrunner Leslye Headland, cocreator of the time-looping Netflix show Russian Doll. She has been planning for it for two years, mostly from the confines of her home. Her dog and cat, who peek in curiously from the background of Zoom conversations, are certainly steeped in the concept of the galaxy’s High Republic era, she says, but casual Star Wars fans who haven’t been following the recent novels and comics might still be unaware.

The Acolyte, Headland says, takes place roughly 100 years before The Phantom Menace: “A lot of those characters haven’t even been born yet. We’re taking a look at the political and personal and spiritual things that came up in a time period that we don’t know much about. My question when watching The Phantom Menace was always like, ‘Well, how did things get to this point?’ How did we get to a point where a Sith lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi pick up on it? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that led us to this moment?”

Headland describes The Acolyte as a mystery thriller set in a prosperous and seemingly peaceful era, when the galaxy is still sleek and glistening. “We actually use the term the Renaissance, or the Age of Enlightenment,” she says. Jedis were not always ascetic monklike figures living selflessly and bravely. “The Jedi uniforms are gold and white, and it’s almost like they would never get dirty. They would never be out and about,” Headland says. “The idea is that they could have these types of uniforms because that’s how little they’re getting into skirmishes.”

**** yeah, live action High Republic costuming. Now give me some of those bling sabers.

Considering Ahsoka just started filming, I am not expecting this series till late 2023.

They shot The Book Of Boba Fett around this time last year. Depending on when Mando S3 will air, Spring 2023 could very well be the slot.

I hope this is really dark and deepens the Sith mythology. Hopefully it makes look some Jedi as not as noble they are portrayed until now.

I'm very down with this having the Star Wars look of The Phantom Menace. I remember at the time people complaining it wasn't Star Wars enough, but now with everything looking like A New Hope, this is exactly what I'm craving for. The "clean" universe.

It's going to be even more ostentatious than that. The High Republic is going to make the Republic of Phantom Menace look modest and demure.

Hope we get a cast announcement on StarWars Celebration. Obi Wan and Andor got one last year (though there was no convention)

Yeah, the Temple Robes of the High Republic are fancy. Take the general brown and white color scheme of PT Jedi Robes, turn it to white and gold. With a lot fancier designs.

This is my most anticipated show. Outside the Skywalker Saga. No legacy characters. Completely brand new.

I mean, I doubt they will resist the temptation to use Yoda.

Oh yes, Yoda needs to be in this.
And Darth Plagueis

I am still skeptical that this is happening. Sounds too interesting to come out of Disney unscathed.

With “certain parts of the EU being reintroduced” makes me think we might get some Sith lore drops in this show.

Revan and Bane seem to be the most obvious name drops. Fairly certain they have something cooking for when the KOTOR remake drops.

I admittedly forgot that Yoda is over 900 years old. Yeah he's showing up for sure. I can make peace with that.

Otherwise, bring on some Sith lore.

To echo others, this is easily my most anticipated Star Wars project—even more than Obi-Wan. There’s something exciting about finally stepping away from anything associated with the Empire and First Order, and to likely see other Sith is something I’ve wanted to see in live action for awhile.

Shouldn't this have been further than 100 years? Didn't someone on the Council say that the Sith haven't been seen in over 1,000 years?

Nah, this is going to show what the Sith were up to, leading up to Sidious and TPM. As classic EU novel Maul: Shadow Hunter showed, you can get away with the Sith being active. Just, no witnesses.

Yeah, but like you said about the temptation to use Yoda, the bigger temptation is seeing Yoda throw down.

Given the inflated ego of the Jedi, the size of the galaxy, and Palpatine being at least in his 50s when he’s elected Chancellor, it’s safe to assume the Sith were never really gone. It’ll be cool to see a parallel to how Obi-Wan and Yoda were under the radar of the Empire with Plagueis and presumably his master with the Jedi at the height of their power.
