Fallout 3

What was I generalizing? That Fallout fans obsess about killing kids?

Because obviously I didn't mean every last one. Not even close. But based on what I've read on the Fallout 3 boards since it opened up it seems like the majority of hardcore Fallout fans that post there act like if they can't kill kids in Fallout 3 then it's going to be a terrible game.

I just don't get how that could possibly improve the game.

That's a small demography. I'd wager the main worry is that of being a mainstream Oblivion 1.5 by the majority of hardcore fans, not killing children. Taking out child killing would probably add fuel to the fire wither it adds to the game play or not for certain people, but not everyone, even amongst the hard-core.

No child killing? This is an outrage!
Truly agreed. Todd brings crappy excuses while Fallout 2 had child killing with gory effects and there was no problem. A good player with high karma would never harm a child while a truly evil one (Like myself :woot:) did everything to get all tags from Child Killer to that Grave robber thingy.

Also, I hate how they've simplified the game so it won't be "broken" in their mind and have turned traits into perks that come every level with a overall level cap of 20.
Seriously, is there anything more left to do to ruin true Fallout experience? How about a 32 player deathmatch? Or craft your own spells for characters?

Don't you think it's a little bit different today, though?

Fallout was a niche series in what used to be a niche industry. Plus in older games you were just looking at little largely undetailed sprites on screen. In Fallout 3 you're looking at highly realistic fully three dimensional depictions of humans.

If Bethesda did put child killing in Fallout 3 and they somehow didn't get the dreaded AO rating... Can you even imagine what would happen if a Fox News employee stumbled on a Fallout 3 video on youtube of a child or multiple children getting blown apart?

We're talking about the same network that described Mass Effect as a pornographic video game where the whole idea is to have sex with aliens. Or how about Grand Theft Auto IV is about raping women for points? And even though they couldn't have been further from the truth (and they were called out on it) they never bothered to air any kind of retraction.

Fallout 3 wouldn't just get an AO rating, it would probably be pulled from the shelves altogether.

P.S.

I don't get why they had to merge traits with perks either.

I do like the level cap of 20, though. It forces you to specialize instead trying to be a jack of all trades.

Pandamar141, you have valid points but Fallout 1 & 2's brutality was pretty detailed with good sprites.

But seriously, my main problem is with the other changes they've implemented.

That's perfectly understandable. I mean aside from the art style, the setting, and a handful of gameplay elements this game is barely recognizable as a Fallout game to a lot of fans. I have to ask though, would you rather have no Fallout 3 at all?

Good point about Fallout fans and superb question.
Yes, my asnwer is yes. I'd rather have no Fallout 3. MK and Fallout are my all time faves but I'd rather wait till the end of time than to be disappointed by a game that's not what I loved. That's why I still think MK vs DC shouldn't have existed even though I kinda like some aspects of it.

Fallout 3 may be a really great game but it won't be Fallout. Look at Diablo, after Blizzard North went down, many thought Diablo was dead. It took many years but Diablo 3 was finally shown and it was in its full isometric glory and aside from some color issues / debate, the game feels insanely as it should be. When seeing the new D3 gameplay, I did feel the color pallet is happier and some other stuff but I FELT Diablo and nothing else.

There's a rumor in pcgamer they are making a Baldur's Gate III, but it's not Bioware or Black Isle developing it, a game like that, which remained high quality throughout with a satisfying ending in the Throne Of Bhall, really doesn't need a sequel. Bioshock, while still half-decent, was alittle disappointing, no matter if the game was a perfect follow up that actually somehow exceeded certain people's underwhelming expectations, there's always something to nitpick about, if it's only vaguely giong to resemble fallout 3, call it something else imo.

On the topic of your previous post: You could kill children in bioshock. I saved them all, because I'm obviously as nice as Santa Claus, but I presume you had the choice to kill them. That wasn't actually in the original System Shock 2 as you are probably aware.

Well, it's more of consuming than killing. Some rather harsh stuff was cut from BioShock.

Agreed with your points about the game though. I hope that Fallout 3 can be at least BioShock of Fallout universe.

I think someone made a thread on it, but this is the perfect life trailer, it is seriously badass, as well as incredibly funny. It's 20X better than the walkthrough. Not only was that guy horrible at making jokes, but he made the gameplay look weak, which is no mean feat, considering the trailer I linked.

Yeah, my topic is just few posts below :woot:
The game indeed looks cool and the blood n gore... HEAVENLY!

Yeah, Bethesda needs to find someone better than Todd to present their games from now on.

The trailer was great, though. However I really hope that we get to see a good chunk of dialog some time this week or at least show a quest being completed in different ways instead of just running around randomly shooting things.

True. Todd isn't the best man to represent a great game. He may make good ones but lacks the required showmanship skills.

As for the dialogue, he did confirm that you can finish the game playing as a charismatic character / dialogue only one. Stealth and Action / fight were his other methods.

Yeah, I know. It would just be nice to actually SEE some examples of it.

Like I said it would be a good idea to show a video of one quest being completed multiple times showing all the different methods and how that changes gameplay.

Solution. DONT PLAY IT!

There, problem solved. You dont like what they are giving you then dont play the game, pretend it never released.

True, but I can relate. the way every Harry Potter movie after 1 as well as Spider-Man butchered the source material, I can see his frustration.

I'd also like some melee to spice it up, just a couple hammers/chainsaws, massive damage weapons would do fine.

The part where one of the super mutants got his head blown up was the ****. Also the song they played was so wrong for the action it was hilarious.

Well, I really can't pretend and I will play it just like MKA. I'll just keep bashing it if it indeed disappoints me.

There are melee weapons. :yay:

so is this going to be like a futuristic Oblivion?

Well, if it becoems futurisitc Oblivion then it should burn in hell. Oblivion was a horrible RPG and a huge step back from Morrowind and Daggerfall.

From Fallout 3's gameplay demo from E3, it seems a much better and deeper game and most importantly, a completely different RPG that at least TRIES to be like best RPGs of all time AKA Fallout 1 & 2.

Oblivion rocked. Im not a huge RPG fan, but that game impressed and amazed me.

On its own, Oblivion was a decent RPG but it was heavily simplified and a seriously watered down version of previous game in series, Morrowind. Oblivion was like a casual gamer's RPG. It was an insult to RPG and ElderScrolls fans.
Would you like a casualized MGS game? No. We want our fave series to go deeper not become shallower.
