Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

welp, Mangold had my interest, but this...... this now has my full, undivided attention.

This film couldn’t have got a much better boost than Mads.

God. This is killing me. This is GREAT casting, but he's playing a goddamn Neo Nazi. What the **** else could it be? I love the guy, but it's not exactly inspired casting. He's always playing the villain. It doesn't help he's played a Bond villain.

Omg that is some incredible casting right there. My god, I am so hyped.

That's quite a leap. He could be playing a Soviet or just a freelance mercenary Belloq type character.

Well, you can't go wrong with Mads . I've been a fan since Casino Royale.

For me it’s a simple. I think Mangold’s a better director than modern era Spielberg.

Hell, I don’t think Spielberg wanted to return for Crystal Skull, let alone this one. He never seemed as enthusiastic about the franchise as Ford and Lucas did.

Spielberg makes different kind of movies now, but the actual quality of his work hasn’t diminished at all. The blocking in The Post is probably the best of his career. The difference is more people are interested in a giant shark than a story about The Washington Post. I’d argue films like The Post, Bridge of Spies and Lincoln would be better received(though also less seen) if they didn’t have the Spielberg baggage. He has never been able to escape that. Even Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan can’t escape. He’ll always be the “fun blockbuster” guy and it seems a lot of people only want that out of him.

Whether his heart is in another Indiana Jones or not, by the principle of the situation, I’d be more interested in an Indiana Jones with Spielberg and Lucas and no Ford than the other way around. Fury Road is a great example that the mastermind(s) behind an iconic character and work are more important than the iconic actor playing the character.

Now, from what I’ve heard, Spielberg’s “creative differences” were Lucas’s involvement with the film. Whether that simply means he didn’t want to do it without Lucas and Lucas wasn’t interested, or he wanted Lucas involved, but Disney didn’t want Lucas involved, I don’t know. He was attached to the project long enough and had spoken at length how he was passionate about making up for the last one, that I don’t think he left the project just because he wasn’t into it.

He can play villain so well but I kind of hope he’s a good guy. He’s got the charisma for it.

imo its a shame about shia not coming back, he's a great young actor who certainly wasn't done any favors with the last movie. dude also screwed himself with all the current allegations against him.

Personally, I'd probably rather have Shia LaBeouf back than Phoebe Waller-Bridge, though that's gonna be an unpopular opinion.

Love the Indy franchise been excited for this 5th film. All these announcements and castings are awesome. Very excited. Mads is the man

I wish Shia nothing but the best in his life and career. That having been said, I won't miss him at all.

I mean if we're strictly going off of what we saw in the last movie, yeah I'm not gonna miss the character.

Same

Wonder how they’re going to write off Shia. Karen Allen should at least make a cameo hopefully

I don't think he needs to be written off, he probably wouldn't be living with his father anyway all this time later, so he can just be off doing whatever.

It's not a leap for Disney. And it's not like those two others options would be preferable. I want something new. Which for Disney is too much of a stretch. He's your go to European villain actor. Add that with Disney's track record of creativity which their idea is making stormtroopers a different color and what do you think we're gonna get?

Look, I sincerely hope I'm wrong here. I'll eat my own shoe if I'm proven wrong with everything I'm saying. I've been waiting for all of this to happen for 13 years. I'm still excited, and the thought of hearing Mads say, "Doctor Jones" is cool. But I'm not being cynical for cynical sake. There's actual precedent here. I'm not being fooled by Lucasfilm again. I can't help but feel we've been down this road before like with TFA. To me I'll believe otherwise when I see it.

I'm a Mads fan, great actor, but I'm not seeing who this sequel is supposed to appeal to so far.

People's wallets. Indy is still a popular enough character so the audience is there.
I'm not so certain of that. So far this is an aging cast for an aging/declining franchise.

Luckily Indy 5 will just be a one off movie and not an entire trilogy. So I doubt/hope that Lucasfilm will not screw this up like they did with the Star Wars sequel trilogy

Plus, Mangold is a much better director than Abrams & Johnson

Eh....that depends what Johnson is doing. I love Looper and Knives Out, and his only bad movie to me is The Last Jedi.

Out of curiosity bud, what would you like to see from this film?
