but halloway looks old, and his acting is crapSo? That doesn't mean Gambit will be 40. Tobey Maquire is in his 30's and he plays a young Parker.
Yeah, but the problem with casting Gambit is that, in my opinion, he should have those dirty/rugged good looks. Longer hair, unshaven, etc. That tends to make a guy look older, so you don't want a guy who is older to begin with. So? That doesn't mean Gambit will be 40. I'd have preferred an unknown be cast too. The fact that they went for such a well-known and obvious choice makes me think they're more concerned with making Gambit into the new "wolverine" of the next films than doing a good job with the character...
That's what I've been thinking too. Gambit may just be the new Wolverine...
X-MEN 4
The rumor that "Lost" actor Josh Holloway will be taking on the role of Gambit for a stint in Westchester has resurfaced at ShowBizSpy. "We had a meeting and they wanted me to play Gambit, the card dealer character," Holloway said. "They thought I'd be perfect for the part. We'll see." In 2005, Holloway took himself out of contention for the role.
I noticed that... Perhaps a more appropriate label would have been "the card-throwing character"? Hopefully, it was just a slip-up, and not something he really meant to say.Oh, yeah, I forgot to say how I just [sarcasm] love[/sarcasm]
that Josh calls Gambit "the card dealer character."
That in itself is a bad sign. Gambit doesn't work in a casino.
He doesn't just deal out cards.
His cards are his weapons, get it right!
I'd pay to see a fight scene between Jackman and Holloway...

So now you guys want the actor who could portray Gambit to actually be a fan of the character and know him?
Seriously, ANY actor would refer to him in this way, or as the "French guy" "the thief" "the cards guy" etc
I hate that line of thought. Casting Gambit based on compatibility with Rogue is exactly what's been wrong with the two characters for the last couple years. They're individual characters and should be autonomous. I hope Rogue stays with Iceman and we can just do without the inevitable love-triangle when Gambit enters the films.
