Made this thread because this news is Very relevant to "Dragon Ball" and will most likely have some sort of impact on Dragon Ball. (assuming if either Dragon Ball or Star Wars don't change their opening dates.)

Heres the article:

The official "Star Wars" website has confirmed that "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" will premiere in theaters as a feature film on August 15 before becoming a half-hour animated TV series in the fall on Cartoon Network and TNT:

A new era of Star Wars entertainment begins in 2008 when Star Wars: The Clone Wars, from creator George Lucas, premieres as an all-new feature film in August, followed by the television series debut in the fall, in a partnership announced today between Lucasfilm Ltd., Warner Bros. Pictures and Turner Broadcasting System Inc.

Produced by Lucasfilm Animation, Star Wars: The Clone Wars takes audiences on incredible new Star Wars adventures, combining the legendary storytelling of Lucasfilm with an eye-popping, signature animation style. Star Wars: The Clone Wars will open in North American theaters Friday, August 15. International release dates will be announced soon.

"I felt there were a lot more Star Wars stories left to tell," said George Lucas, executive producer of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. "I was eager to start telling some of them through animation and, at the same time, push the art of animation forward."

The theatrical debut of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is only the beginning of all-new Star Wars adventures that continue in the fall when the long-awaited television series premieres on Cartoon Network, followed by airings on TNT. Details regarding international broadcasts will be announced shortly. Star Wars: The Clone Wars showcases an entirely new look and feel to the galaxy far, far away -- combining the expansive scope of the Star Wars Saga with state-of-the-art computer-generated animation. Each week, viewers will see a thrilling, 30-minute "mini-movie" created by the talented artists at Lucasfilm Animation.

On the front lines of an intergalactic struggle between good and evil, fans young and old will join such favorite characters as Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Padmé Amidala, along with brand-new heroes like Anakin's padawan learner, Ahsoka. Sinister villains -- led by Darth Sidious, Count Dooku and General Grievous -- are poised to rule the galaxy. Stakes are high, and the fate of the Star Wars universe rests in the hands of the daring Jedi Knights. Their exploits lead to the action-packed battles and astonishing new revelations that fill Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

"Warner Bros. and Turner are uniquely positioned to deliver on the enormous potential of The Clone Wars because together they offer a world-class opportunity: the theatrical and home-video distribution of Warner Bros. and the broad reach of the Turner Networks," said Micheline Chau, President and Chief Operating Officer of Lucasfilm Ltd. "This terrific combination hits the key demographic groups, ranging from kids to adults, that make up the Star Wars audience."

Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution, added, "This is a breakthrough project -- returning Star Wars to the big screen in a completely new way while beginning an exciting new chapter in George Lucas' legendary saga. We immediately felt that it would be a fantastic theatrical event and are thrilled to be bringing it to moviegoers."

"Nothing like this has ever been produced for television," said Stuart Snyder, President/COO Turner Animation,Young Adults & Kids Media. "For 30 years, Star Wars has shown that it appeals to a huge breadth of fans. The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network will be appointment television for everyone in the family. We're thrilled to be working with Lucasfilm again and very excited to be playing a role in bringing this remarkable adventure to viewers."With a new story each week, Star Wars: The Clone Wars continues the tradition of thrilling stories, astonishing visuals and extraordinary music that have always been the hallmarks of the Star Wars Saga.

Lucasfilm Animation, which is based in Marin County, Calif., with a studio in Singapore, has produced more than 30 all-new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and production continues on even more exciting episodes.

Discuss.

Frankly, the animation looks like crap. If the story is just as equally bad, I can't imagine it affecting anything.

This is true. But just let alone it being part of the Star Wars franchise gives it a lot of power.

How many hard core Star Wars fans are DB fans? (not sarcasm, a real question) because outside of them I don't see anyone else seeing this movie.

Sorry not sure if your talking about "Dragon Ball" or "Star Wars"? On which film people wont see? Please clarify. I'm a little slow :oldrazz:

Oh, I mean the Star Wars movie. I don't think alot of general audience members will go see it (unless its marketed extremely well). It feels kinda desperate (and I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan). The only audience I think DB will lose to the movie is hardcore Star Wars fan.

god...is anything that you DO like besides Dragon Ball? it seems like anything that's brought up on these boards that isn't Dragon Ball automatically gets a negative comment from you.

anyway, i've been working with 3D Studio Max for more than 5 years and i think the animation is alright. nothing SPECTACULAR, but definitely not crap like you think.

as for the SW's effect on the DB movie...the SW brand is definitely more popular that DB, so that itself is a threat...but i also brought up the point that both of these films have America as the base audience. that being said, if the new SW flick comes out the same day as DB, i think a lot of parents would rather take their kids to watch Clone Wars. ultimately, the deciding factor will be Star Wars fans vs Dragon Ball fans....and those people who are fans of both will give into which one they love more. i'm one of those people and i got into SW long before i got into DB. i'm going to watch DB no matter what but if they come out on the same day then Clone Wars will be getting my ticket.

You make a good point. It already does have a bit of a disadvantage just because its going to be animated/cgi compared to "Dragon Ball" thats going to be a Live Action film with a 100 million dollar budget.

Agreed.

An animated movie directly linked to the Star Wars universe.....the general public will flock to it.

Yeah, parents know Star Wars better and will likely gravitate towards that. I'm a bigger DB fan anyway so, unless it looks like utter crap, I'm going to go to that. I've also soured on Star Wars with the last three movies. I'm sure Fox will blink in the end.

But will all the Star Wars fan go to watch this film. I myself being a pretty big Star Wars fan and Dragon Ball fan will still go watch "Dragon Ball". A lot of Star Wars fan also dislike this entire Star Wars animation and actually have heavily criticized it.

normally i'd agree but i don't see Clone Wars being an animated film as a disadvantage. the target age group for both these movies are children and teens and that pretty much makes up most of Dragon Ball's audience. however, there are more adults that like Star Wars than Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball being live action might be an advantage it has over Clone Wars but in this day and age animated films are becoming more and more popular. i'm no prophet but i can see a lot of kids wanting to see Clone Wars because it's animated and a lot of adults taking their kids simply because it's Star Wars.

there you have it guys....i'm not being a kiss ass or anything, but what C. Lee says, goes. he's like God......of the Hype.

This is also true. I'm heavily hoping that 20th Century Fox moves the opening date. But this move could show audiences that 20th Century Fox doesn't have much faith on "Dragon Ball" in the first place.

FOX will market this movie like crazy, since it has potential to make them many, many millions of dollars.

Expect promotional photos (as reported by movieland) and teasers soon, and hopefully they will change the release date to August 1-14 or something.

to tell you the truth i've already come to that conclusion. i honestly think Fox is just trying to milk the cartoon-to-film fad (Transformers, Speed Racer, G.I. Joe) and get whatever money they can instead of making a solid effort in creating a truly great martial arts film. if Fox really wanted to, they could have made Dragon Ball the calibur of Chronicles of Narnia meets Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon...but it seems like they're dishing out another Fantastic Four or Daredevil.

^^^ I would actually mind if they were to release this film earlier than August 15. This film is already rushed this would only rush Post-Production. I would be extremely happy if they push back the release date to October that would give them more time to work on the film. Not to sure if October is a good date for a Big Action film to be released (Maybe December would be better).

Summer is the time to release it...

agreed....the last thing this film needs is to be pushed back more than it already is. if FOX decides to reschedule, i'd rather they take advantage of the dry season (Fall) when there aren't that many action/adventure movies coming out that way they also have more time to complete the film.

Seeing as this is FOX were talking about. Do you think it would be financially smart move to reschedule the film around November-December range?

Okay this is getting ridiculous. They aren't going to drastically change their schedule just cause of some crappy animated film.

Who knows its definitely a possibility. Don't be to sure that they won't change around the opening date for this film.

It doesn't matter if even a great many of die hard Star Wars fan decide not to go see it.....a great deal of the general public will. It will have the Star Wars name. It will PG or PG-13. It will be animated. Parents will not only have no worries what so ever about taking their kids to see it....they will be happy too. The Star Wars movies have all been blockbusters not because "fanboys" have an undying love for them (many spend all of their time complaining about them and Lucas)....they were blockbusters because the general public loved them too.

Here's an example. A friend of ours is a single woman in her 40's. She hates movies with fighting and martial arts. She was at our house one time when my son was watching Dragonball on TV....she rolled her eyes and said (without him being able to hear it)..."I can't believe the stuff they make for kids these days." ...................The point of this? She has seen all of the Star Wars films dozens of times.

A fantastic point which only leads to believe that this "Star Wars" film is a serious threat to "Dragon Ball".

Fox knows the market for Dragonball, and it's definitely not 40 year old single woman. If they honestly thought this would attract that kind of crowd, I would suggest they seek help.

No, this film is aimed towards a specific audience. Males aged 9-34. If they get other types of people, that's great, but they are definitely aiming towards that kind of crowd.
