This fall, welcome to the Resistance!

StarWars.com is thrilled to announce that production has begun on Star Wars Resistance, an exciting new animated adventure series about Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order. It will premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and thereafter, on Disney XD and around the world.

Featuring the high-flying adventure that audiences of all ages have come to expect from Star Wars, Star Wars Resistance — set in the time prior to Star Wars: The Force Awakens — will feature the beloved droid BB-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters and appearances by fan favorites including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively.

The series was created by renowned Lucasfilm Animation veteran Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels); executive-produced by Athena Portillo (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels), Justin Ridge (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) and Brandon Auman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles); and art-directed by Amy Beth Christenson (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels).

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”

Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, Programming and general manager, Disney XD, said, “Our colleagues at Lucasfilm have created a compelling narrative for an untold moment in the Star Wars galaxy, and we are excited to partner with them again on this new original series. Star Wars Resistance will bring viewers across generations an engaging story with heart, humor and both new and familiar characters.”

In addition to Isaac and Christie, the voice cast includes actors Christopher Sean (Days of Our Lives), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), Scott Lawrence (Legion), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison (Scrubs), Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash (Community), and Rachel Butera (Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time).

StarWars.com. All Star Wars, all the time.

I've enjoyed both The Clone Wars and Rebels which had Filoni at the tiller so this should not disappoint.

The years before TFA are not very filled out so this is a good spot for some untouched period of stories.

Weird that it's anime inspired instead of the animation they were going with in the previous two shows.

Also, I don't think this is the only new animated series coming up.

I hope it will look different than the past shows.

I hope this doesn't look like most CGI anime these days.

Star Wars Resistance Is the Next Lucasfilm Animated Series and the Details Are Absolutely Incredible

Something that isn't in the official release.
Set in what is described by the company as an “uncharted time frame prior to The Force Awakens,” the “anime-inspired” Resistance will follow a young pilot named Kazuda Xiono, recruited by General Leia Organa’s burgeoning Resistance for a top-secret surveillance mission to survey the growing power of the First Order. The series will focus on Kazuda and a cast of ace pilots, but will also feature familiar faces from the sequel trilogy in the form of BB-8, Poe Dameron, and Captain Phasma, with both Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie reprising their respective roles for the series.

Sounds awesome. A show that revolves around the fighters, sign me up. Especially if it's anime.

Sounds like it is inspired by this.

Even if it isn't in a hand drawn style, there are CG style animes that work.

Hmm, interesting. I'll have to see some footage, but I'm onboard with the description at least. That's a cool looking spaceship, and I like the WW2 inspiration they mentioned.

Someone said something about it being anime inspired? That could work. I really hope it's hand drawn and not the Clone Wars/Rebels style designs and animation, I've never been a big fan of that style.

I imagine that BB-8 design is probably a representation of how the animation/art will look in the show.

I wonder if its 2D or Cel Shaded.

If it is CG, there is quite a variety of ways it can go. Hopefully they are given enough budget to make it work well.

I'm surprised this is being set so close to Episode VII. I figured the next show would be much earlier and center around Sabine and Ahsoka. I really wouldn't want that story to just be left hanging.

It's Filoni. It won't be, I assure you. Maybe not in the first season, sure, but you can bet your ass that he will pick it up in a future season.

Meh, Rebels looked so great the past two season with long takes in this 3D style they’ve prefected since CW... this upsets me for this series.

I wonder if that ship is the T-85 X-wing.

Is Kazuda Xiono a Japanese name? (Kazuda does sound Japanese anyway, I'm not sure about Xiono). Maybe they pick a Japanese sounding name to match the anime style.

I'm really hoping it doesn't end up looking like that Tron animated show, which looked awful.

If the promotion image is any indication it's going to be a 2D cel style animation.

what would make this show perfect is if it had fan favorite characters from The Clone Wars and Rebels like Grand Admiral Thrawn, Hondo, Sabine, and Ahsoka Tano. It would be amazing if this series showed an lightsaber duel between Kylo Ren and Ahsoka Tano.

I actually doubt if this series follows up on Ezra, Ashoka and Thrawn. Filoni doesn't seem to be directing or producing it, rather he's just the one who created the concept of it, plus he's the head of Lucasfilm animation as a whole...I'd bet that there's a second series (likely CGI) in development that'll deal with that other stuff, possibly Luke as well.

When Johnson's new trilogy was announced it was mentioned that it would be set in a previously unexplored part of the Star Wars galaxy with no connection to the current film. I've often wondered if we might find that Ezra and Thrawn ended up in that part of the galaxy and that the new series would explore and introduce viewers to it. The Ezra series would act as a bridge between the current stuff and RJ's stuff so that RJ doesn't feel he needs to do a lot of work on bridging. Plus Filoni and RJ both seem to have an interest in expanding on what people know about the Force so I think they might work well together.

It would've just been better if Ezra, Ahsoka, and Thrawn all died. Still having Ezra and Ahsoka be alive while Luke is fighting the Empire is problematic.

It....really wouldn't be better at all, if anything it'd be worse.
