I’ve been rereading old comics from the 1970s and 80s. The titles of each individual issue have always been over-the-top corny but then I noticed they referenced movies, books or current events.
Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man 20 had the title “Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?” It was published in 1978 and referred to the blackout in 1977.

Spectacular Spider-Man #65 was “The Heart is a Lonely Hunter,” which was the title of a book.

Amazing Spider-Man #65 was “How Green was my Goblin!” Referencing the movie “How Green was my Valley?”

Do any other old timers know of other examples?

ASM #297 "I'll Take Manhattan!" = I'll Take Manhattan (novel by Judith Krantz) based on the line from the Great American Songbook song "We'll have Manhattan" (aka Manhattan) sung by many including Ella Fitzgerald)

ASM #304 "California Schemin'!" = California Dreamin' (song by the Mamas and Papas)

ASM #314 "Down and Out in Forest Hills" = Down and Out in Beverley Hills (comedy film with Nick Nolte)

ASM #317 "The Sand and the Fury" = The Sound and the Fury (novel by William Faulkner)

ASM #332 "Sunday in the Park with Venom" = Sunday in the Park with George (Stephen Sondheim musical)

That doesn't refer to the blackout of 1977. It's a film called "Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?" starring Doris Day made in 1968 about a 1965 blackout in several North Eastern states.

I thought it was a common question (frequently said that way) after the blackout.

Guess not.

Well it might have become a common question but probably it originated from that film. Or if not, the film used a common existing idiom as its title and then Spider-Man used that again for an issue title.

Pretty much all the comic titles are play on words - eg Iron Man #123 "Casino Fatale" = Casino Royale.
