Salt

As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Salt's efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: "Who Is Salt?"

I saw it yesterday, it is a pretty solid action flick. Sure it brings nothing new to the table but why does it have to. Jolie is great and the action is pretty awesome throughout.

I love a good chase film, whether its a doctor wrongly accused of killing his wife(The Fugitive) or a a trained assassin on the run from the FBI (The Hunted ) So how could i resist Angelina Jolie's latest flick Salt?
Jolie is Evelyn Salt a CIA officer on her way home to her hubby and little dog, when a man named Orlov(Daniel Olbrychski) claiming to be defecting from Russia walks into the agency and claims Salt is a spy, everything points to Orlov being truthful ,so of course her fellow agents Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber) and Peabody (Chiwetel Ejiofor),want to take her to a little room and interrogate her.Hey i would love to take AJ to a little room too and.....well thats another story.
Of course Salt isnt just going to sit around ,the lady has skills,so the chase is on!!
From the first frames of the film i was able to figure out the first plot twist, and the focus on a certain thing is so in your face i was able to figure out plot twist 2.
So no surprises in the twist department, but what was surprising is how well the action sequences are put together, and how thrilling they are ,one particular scene had the theatre applauding for a full 2 minutes.
Jolie did manage to throw me off for a bit to which her allegiances may lie because this lady can go from loving to cold and tough in less than 2 seconds!!
Like the great Jason Bourne, she will be caught when she wants to be caught, and she will talk to you when she wants to talk to you!
Some of the plot lacks a bit of reason and how can you cast the great Andre Braugher and only give him 3 or 4 lines?!? Its an outrage!!
Salt is still a fun ride despite its faults.I know i will see more of AJ on the big screen, but hopefully i will see her again as Salt
Scale of 1-10 an 8

I saw this film yesterday and loved it. Out of curiousity what scene was it. I gotta scene in my head but i want to no if it's the same as yours.

Did anyone else's theater go crazy when [BLACKOUT]at the end she strangled Liev off the banister with her handcuff chains? That was pretty badass..[/BLACKOUT]

IN the theatre I went to..people screamed "Oh sh%$". That was so damned brutal...wow..just wow

^That scene is EPIC...:D Jolie is bada$$.

I loved this movie because it gave much more than I was expecting, plot-wise. Marketing did a good job focusing only on the beginning of the film. I thought the story would be simpler, and wasn't expecting the twists.

I hope this does well. They set up the ending pretty well for a sequel.

Finally saw this today and liked it. Definitely hope there's a sequel. The scene in slow motion when she tosses the grenades with that background music reminded me of The Omen for some reason.

after the strangling scene im surprised it got pg-13.. it was prob cut for other countries..

i know the ratings board in foreign countries made them edit out the Casino Royale strangling scene.

The strangulation wasn't graphic though. The torture at the beginning I thought was the kinda rough, but not rough enough that it needed to be an R rating.

I just caught up with this one and really enjoyed it. I do, however, have some questions about Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber) and the President in the bunker:

1. Did Winter shoot/kill the President in the bunker? I know Winter knocked him out, but I can't recall if Winter shot him dead.

2. If the President wasn't killed, why not? The President would have exposed Winter if left alive. Plus Winter could only have emerged as the "hero" if both the President and Salt were dead (the latter setup as the former's killer). After the authentication codes were entered, Winter had plenty of time to kill the President. He did need the President's fingerprints, but the President didn't need to be alive for that? Why not a kill-shot instead of just knocking out the President?
Please correct me if I've missed something.

I was just about to point that out.

I saw this movie on Tuesday, and I was rather disappointed. Character relationships were pretty much nonexistent, the plot twists extremely predictable, and the protagonist's motivations were completely unclear. It would have made so much more sense if
the terrorist leader's appearance at CIA headquarters were the signal for Salt to act, as he informs them of his presence, but poses as an informant, and while the CIA were putting all their resources into finding this supposed terrorist leader they suppose to be the assassin, he would actually be safe in the CIA's custody the whole time. It had been revealed that Salt had doubts about the mission she was raised to fulfill, and therefore, they kidnapped her husband, so she faked the Russian President's death to save her husband's life.

Meanwhile, Schreiber's character (whom I believe would be better as a deceptively nerdy, tactical operative rather than... well, whatever he was) would bring suspicion on her so that there would be someone to blame when she was exposed, rather than defending her. Then, having proven her loyalty to the terrorists, they would bring her aboard the ship, but then the news would come too soon that the Russian Pres. had woken up. They kill her husband; she kills them. She tries to contact her former friend (Schreiber) to warn him of the danger to the President, which he takes advantage of to get close to the situation. He tells her that she's been cleared and can come back to help work on the situation, and to brief the President on all that took place.

But of course, it's a trick, and she is arrested by the Secret Service while the countdown begins for the President to deactivate the US's nuclear weapons, which she doesn't figure out until her former rival at the agency unwittingly reveals that her friend is the man who had her arrested. She breaks out, somehow proving her innocence to her former rival, and with her/his help, tracks down her 'friend', who means to force the President to launch the nuclear weapons instead of neutralizing them. She kicks ass and saves the day. The end.

Dammit, I just wrote a whole new movie. A pretty damn good one, too. I should write a script for it.

The first thing to say about the film is that Jolie is awesome, she pulls the slick badass spy off superbly, her acting in the scenes on the boat with Olaff being the highlight of the movie.

The next thing to say is that this is a typical Kurt Wimmer script, great set up, ramps up the action and stakes in the middle, drops the ball in the 3rd act.

Right up to the point she got on the rusted old ship at the shipyard I was really enjoying it, but the moment she didn't ask Olaff why he blew her cover my brow started furrowing, but I was distracted from this by the awesome way she ruthlessly massacred those commie killers. :D

However the movie never really recovers from here, instead of taking some time for Salt to investigate further, thus laying some kind of foundation for the "twist" ending, the film rushes head on to the finishing line with a very rushed and dodgy plan for killing The President. It's also really disappointing that they set the big action finale in the White House and yet failed to capture the grandeur or scale such a sequence should have had.

It's interesting to note that none of the finale made it's way into the trailers, perhaps b/c of the butched up look Jolie sports for the final 25 minutes?

Also a couple of the support roles were poorly cast, the President looked like a goof and the guy playing Salt's husband was kinda creepy, it was hard to see how he won her over, but then the film didn't have much time for any character bar Salt and this is basically a chase movie.

Despite my complaints over the ending's set up and lack of scale, what is there is decently executed and combined with the very good first two 3rds, that had a couple of cracking set pieces, I still had fun with this film, and no Lady does action like Angelina!

7/10

Just saw this movie, and Jolie sold me on the action big time. For someone so thin, she really looks like she can kick ass!

7.5/10
