What impact will a genius scientist have on the lives of Kirito and company?
SAO-LS_12-26-14.jpg

Bandai Namco has detailed the story, latest characters, and basic actions for its upcoming PlayStation 3 and PS Vita RPG Sword Art Online: Lost Song.
Get the details below.
Story
Having arrived at the floating city of Line, Kirito and the other members of his party encounter a guild by the name of “Shamrock” as they go about clearing a set of new quests that have gone online. As a guild composed of veteran players across myriad races, in the world of Alfheim Online, Shamrock is a guild that people can’t help but notice.
Arguably the most conspicuous of Shamrock’s members is Professor Sharvin Nanairo, who’s in reality a petite girl. Nevertheless, her looks are deceiving. An alumni of MIT, she’s appeared in the news a lot in recent times as genius girl wonder scientist and is conducting research on virtual societies formed within networks. Put simply, if Akihiko Kayaba, also known as Heathcliff, is the darkness belying the world of Alfheim Online, then Rainbow Arshavin is its light.
Indeed, it’s by meeting her that Kirito and company’s next great adventure is put into motion. Who’s to say what impact the genius scientist will have on their lives after everything is said and done?
New Characters
Seven (voiced by Hisako Kanemoto)
“It’s my wish to create a world without conflict.”
SAO-Chara_12-26_001.jpg

Seven is the Pooka avatar of Professor Sharvin Nanairo, the youthful Russian girl known for her genius in science. The leader of Shamrock, she and Akihiko Kayaba are often referred to as opposites. Her appearance in the game is the same as that in the real world.
Rein (voiced by Miyu Takagi)
“You’re even better than I thought you would be! Just what I’d expect of a real master!”
SAO-Chara_12-26_002.jpg

Rein is a Leprechaun character who, in spite of her dainty looks, is actually extremely proficient with Hide skills. An air of mystery surrounds her, as she has a habit of following Kirito and the others around. Though she has a stigma for being called a liar, there may well be more to her story that’s not apparent on the surface.
Sumeragi (voiced by Ryouta Takeuchi)
“Some players don’t even need words to make themselves heard.”
SAO-Chara_12-26_003.jpg

Sumeragi is an Undine swordsman who also happens to be the leader in practice of Shamrock. As Seven’s bodyguard, his strength is the real deal, having apparently even bested the legendary Demonic Sword Gram.
Basic Actions

  • Standard Attack – A basic attack useful for combos. You can connect these to strong attacks and sword skills.
  • Strong Attack – A more powerful attack. When used in combination with standard attacks, you can link them with sword skills.
  • Step – A step action that consumes stamina used to jump left, right, back, or forth to avoid enemy attacks.
  • Jump – A jump to reach enemies that might be a little higher than you. Mainly useful in dungeons.
  • Sheathed Sword and Drawn Sword – When your sword is sheathed, you can use magic, but when your sword is drawn, you can attack with your weapon.
  • Guard – An action to block enemy attacks. However, guards can be broken if the player takes too many hits.
  • Dash – A dash attack that consumes stamina. When you’re flying, this increases the speed of your flight.
  • Use of Skills – Skills are available for use with your basic attacks and steps. When you’re using a sword, you can use sword skills for sword-based magic attacks.
  • Switch – During the middle of your attack, you can initiate a “Switch.” This is possible both on the grund and in the air, and changes the opponent’s target from you to whoever you switch with.
Online Play
You can play in cooperation with other players through online multiplayer. You’ll choose which character you want to play and log-in to the tavern lobby. Up to 16 players can enter the lobby, and up to four can form a party and go out on a quest. Difficult quests yield higher rewards.

The List : 5 Things MMOs Could Learn from Sword Art Online

Posted Jan 12, 2015

Sword Art Online II recently wrapped up. I haven’t actually watched the second leg of the Sword Art Online story as I’m late to the party on this topic, but I’ve seen all of Sword Art Online I and was enamored with the concept. If you’re unaware, Sword Art Online, or SAO for short, is an anime about a group of people that get trapped inside of an MMORPG. The catch is that if they die in the game, they die in real life as well.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song is developed by Artdink

Published 1 min ago. 52 comments.

Hollow Fragment sold a total of 450,000 units worldwide.
SAOLS_01-13-15.jpg

New details on Sword Art Online: Lost Song, due out for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in Japan on March 26, have come out of a Dengeki Online interview with producer Kawai Yasukazu.
Get the summary below.

  • For Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, Bandai Namco listened to user feedback from Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment, which led to at least 100 changes.
  • Hollow Fragment sold a total of 450,000 units worldwide. In Japan, sales were about 280,000. In Asia, 90,000. And in North America, the game sold about 70,000 units.
  • While Aquria handled Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment and Hollow Fragment, Artdink is developing Lost Song. Artdink was decided as developer around the time production of the second season of the anime was decided.
  • Yasukazu once said that a Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment sequel would be made if it sold 200,000 copies. Lost Song is not a sequel, but something completely new.
  • There was only one thing left unresolved in Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, and that was the “Save Strea Story.” Strea and ALfheim Online are bound to one another, and even if players would be happy to see her go, she can’t just up and disappear from the game. Lost Song will look into these points more closely and Yasuzaku hopes that players will ultimately be able to come around to her.
  • Bandai Namco is planning to release updates to Lost Song, just as they did with Hollow Fragment, post-release. The content and timing is not clear, but it will incorporate user feedback. There will also be downloadable content, such as new missions, but it will all be free.
  • Yasukazu wants to continue doing Sword Art Online stuff as much as possible, both apps and consumer games alike. He jokingly adds that he’d like to make a virtual reality MMO himself, and that it would be nice if Bandai Namco could come together to advance virtual reality in its own way.

Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment Producer Talks About The Future. January 13, 2015 . 9:00am

In a recent interview on Sword Art Online: Lost Song with Dengeki, Bandai Namco discusses the game and its future.

In a recent interview on Sword Art Online: Lost Song with Dengeki, Bandai Namco discusses the game and its future. Japanese blog Game Jouhou summarized the interview in bullet points, and you can find our translation below.

  • Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment sold 450,000 copies around the world. 285,000 of those came from Japan, 90,000 from Asia, and 70,000 from North America.

  • Sword Art Online: Lost Song is currently in development by ArtDink, known for developing Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z. They chose ArtDink as the developers around the time the anime’s second season began production.

  • Producer Yosuke Futami previously stated that if Hollow Fragment sold over 200,000 copies, they would work on a sequel; however, in the interview they state that Lost Song isn’t a sequel, but a completely new title, which basically means a sequel for Hollow Fragment will be made, if it isn’t already in development.

  • One thing that they wanted to do in Hollow Fragment but couldn’t, was the “story of saving Strea”. They mention that Strea, is in a way, inseparable from SAO, but she’s normally not part of ALfheim Online, but they felt that fans would be happy to see her, so it was decided to include her in Lost Song. Bandai Namco would like to provide a nice episode that will allow fans to accept her [being in ALO].

  • Updates are expected for Lost Song after its release. While they can’t share details on its content or release date, they’ll work on it while listening to fan feedback. There will be missions and such as part of DLC, which will all be free of charge.

  • Bandai Namco would like to keep continue doing more with Sword Art Online, with both apps and console games. Lost Sword is just one of the games to keep the development for the series going. While this may be something for the distant future, Futami would also like to make a VRMMO someday. He mentions that he’d like to some day put together a team, with people from his development staff and company, so they could brainstorm some ideas on how they could get closer to having an actual virtual reality game someday.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song Shows More Areas Of The New ALO. January 21, 2015 . 5:13am

Here’s a look at some of the new places you’ll get to visit in the upcoming game.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song takes place in an updated ALO, where a new continent has been added, featuring all kinds of different terrains. Dengeki shares a look at some of the new places you’ll get to visit in the upcoming game.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song
takes place on an unknown floating continent called Svartalfheim. The continent itself is made up of many floating lands. The first island shown in the above image is called Woglinde

Woglinde is characterized by its grassy plains, massive buildings, and windmills.

The island is home to the giant dragon, known as the Conqueror of the Skies. It possesses the powers of both wind and fire, which it uses to take out all its enemies.

In addition to the grassy island of Woglinde, Svartalfheim also has islands that are made of deserts and icy mountains.

This golem-like creature is a giant monster you’ll encounter on the desert island. It specializes in attacks using its powerful fists.

The above image is a look at the Sky Capital Line, which will act as your base of operations. There are other towns in Svartalfheim, but this where Kirito and the other adventurers call hometown, and it’s also where a number of events will take place.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song Shows Off Its Online Mode. January 28, 2015 . 5:55am

Sword Art Online: Lost Song now will have an online mode with lobbies that can hold up to 16 people.

Kirito seems to make friends wherever he goes, and he’s ready to make more in Sword Art Online: Lost Song now that it will have an online mode with lobbies that can hold up to 16 people. The latest trailer for the game shows a bit of the online mode, and more.

[YT]mpdCsk40BQ0[/YT]

The gameplay footage begins with a brief look at some of the characters flying around in the new ALO, followed by a little tour of the Sky Capital Line, the place that will act as your base of operations in the game. The game starts out at Line, where you’ll put together parties for adventures. This is also the place where you’ll meet old and new friends alike. It’s where all the events happen, and where you accept quests.

At 1:47, the video shows us a look at the 16-person lobby, where you’ll set out in groups of four to participate in flight-action battles outside. Your fighting style varies according to who you play as, with a big difference in going with magic attacks and skills.

The 3:05 part has a little bit of Eir Aoi’s new song for Sword Art Online: Lost Song, called “Sincere no Hikari” and it shows how there will be some drama unravel between Kirito, and the new characters Seven, Rain, and Sumeragi.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song will release in Japan on March 26, 2015 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

In Sword Art Online: Lost Song Sakuya fights using her great katana. While she didn’t exactly fight much during Kirito’s first time in ALO, she’ll show what she’s capable of this time around, and they say that she’s quite talented.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song is 20 to 30 hours long, producer wants to do PS4 version
Published 6 hours ago. 33 comments.

Big online feature to be added post-launch.
SAOLS-20-30-Hours-Long.jpg
Dengeki Online caught up with Sword Art Online: Lost Song producer Yosuke Futami at this weekend’s Taipai Game Show, who discussed the game’s volume, the potential for a PlayStation 4 version, and other tidbits.
Get all the relevant details below.

  • When asked about plans for a PlayStation 4 version, Futami said, “I want to do it!” Theme song singer Eir Aoi adds in that she wants a PS4 version, too.
  • The story will take roughly 20 to 30 hours to complete.
  • There are no character-specific endings, but each character does have his or her own episodes.
  • A post-launch update will add a big new feature for online mode.
  • You can access multiplayer from the beginning of the story. Completing quests will increase the number of areas you can visit, which will in turn increase the number of multiplayer quests you can do.
  • There’s a large number of multiplayer quests.
  • There are raw materials you can collect both online and offline for strengthening your weapon, but the probability of obtaining them offline is much lower. It’s also possible to take on more difficult quests with stronger enemies online. If there’s only one strong player in the party, however, clearing these quests will be difficult. Cooperation is important.
  • Eir Aoi and Luna Haruna’s dual theme songs are themed around new characters Seven and Rain.
Sword Art Online: Lost Song is due out for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita in Japan on March 26.

Bandai Namco files western trademarks for Lost Song, Eyes of Heaven, and Cinderella Girls
Published 56 mins ago. 66 comments.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song looking likely for western release.
Lost-Song-TM-US-EU.jpg
Bandai Namco has filed trademarks for “Lost Song” in the United States and Europe, as well as a trademarks for “Eyes of Heaven” and “Cinderella Girls” in Europe.
“Lost Song” is the subtitle to the company’s upcoming Sword Art Online: Lost Song for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, which is currently only confirmed for launch in Japan and Asia. The Asian release, which will be localized in English, had already signaled the game’s western release. But the trademark doesn’t hurt. (If you played Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment, don’t worry. The producer has promised a better English localization.)
“Eyes of Heaven,” on the other hand, is the subtitle to the upcoming JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, which has yet to be confirmed for a western release.
“Cinderella Girls” is the subtitle to the smartphone social game The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls, as well as this season’s new Idolmaster anime.
Trademarks for “Lost Reavers” were also filed in the United States and Europe, but we’re not sure what it might be attached to.
Thanks, The Vita Lounge and JonathanIsPrimus.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song Its Magic Types And How They Can Be Used. February 6, 2015 . 2:02pm

The latest update from the official website has more on the game’s magic, and how it can be used in different situations.

Bandai Namco previously shared details on how to fight in Sword Art Online: Lost Song. The latest update from the official website has more on the game’s magic, and how it can be used in different situations.

In Sword Art Online: Lost Song, magic is split into different attribute varieties of fire, water, ice, earth, wind, light, and dark. Magic is used most effectively by knowing enemy weakness and using it against them. There are also heal and buff magic as well.

Each time you use magic, it will slowly get stronger as part of a leveling system for it. Again, there are magic ranks, and you’ll need to meet certain conditions to be able to use the stronger magic. Some magic may be weak at first, but they can also end up becoming much more powerful as they become stronger.

Here are some descriptions on the different magic attributes and their characteristics:

Fire magic is powerful, and can burn down enemies. They’re a little slower when it comes to casting speed, but they’ll have plenty of damage to dish out.

Ice magic isn’t that powerful, but they hit multiple times, and they’re easy for hitting enemies. The attack speed is pretty high, and also easy to control.

Last edited:

Earth magic is powerful, and can be used to crush enemies; however, its speed is slow, and it can be difficult to control.

Wind magic is similar to ice magic, as it’s not strong but hits multiple times. Wind is best used for crowd-control, as it can easily hit multiple targets at a time. Its attack speed is high and easy to handle.

Light magic is another one that’s on the weaker side, but can hit targets multiple times. It’s easy to hit enemies with, and its speed is the fastest of all magic.

Dark magic has power but there’s often some sort of catch associated with it. The attacks aren’t linear attacks, so they can be a bit tough to aim, and the casting speed is slow.

Water magic is simply healing magic. It focuses mainly on different heals for you and your party.

The buff and debuff-type magic seems to be a category of their own, and they’re used to temporarily increases your party’s parameters or lower the enemy’s. There are many kinds of buff and debuffs, so you’ll get to mix them around to your liking.

Finally, the above image shows that the “Switch” feature will also be in Sword Art Online: Lost Song. This basically switches the enemy’s target with another character, and it can also be used in mid-air.

  • Agil - An old friend of Kirito and Klein’s from Sword Art Online, now available as a playable character. He is of the Gnome race and uses a two-handed ax in battle.
  • Recon - Also known as Nagata Shinichi in the real world, he is a friend of Leafa’s. He is of the the same Sylph race as Leafa and specializes in magic.
  • Eugene - Head of the Salamander army in ALfheim Online. He is one of the game’s best players, and is the sole possessor of the legendary “Demonic Sword Gram” weapon.
  • Svart ALfheim’s Third Island - The third island of Svart ALfheim, also known as the “Annular Iceberg Frost Hilde,” features a sweeping snowstorm blocking adventurers’ paths.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song Shows Agil, Recon, Eugene, And A New Island. February 23, 2015 . 2:10am

Kirito will face new challenges in Sword Art Online: Lost Song’s updated world of ALO, where him and his friends will have a new continent to explore.

Kirito will face new challenges in Sword Art Online: Lost Song’s updated world of ALO, where him and his friends will have a new continent to explore. The official website provides a new look at some of his old friends and allies.

Agil:

When Agil isn’t busy running his Dicey Café in real life, he spends his time as a merchant and axe-wielder in VRMMORPGs. He’ll be a playable character in Sword Art Online: Lost Song, as a Gnome character of ALO.

Recon:

In real life, he’s known as Nagata Shinichi, a friend and classmate of Suguha Kirigaya. He was previously her in-game mentor, until she surpassed him, and while she can be a bit harsh towards him at times, they get along fine. He plays as a Sylph in ALO, and specializes in magic.

Eugene:

General Eugene was the head of the Salamander race’s armed forces, and was considered the strongest player in ALO, until he was defeated in a 1v1 fight against Kirito. He also wields the game’s second most powerful sword, the Demonic Sword Gram.

Svartalfheim is an unknown floating continent that is where Sword Art Online: Lost Song takes place. It’s made up of several floating lands, and the above is a look at its third island, called the Cyclic Iceberg, Frosthilde.

Not much is known about Frosthilde and its icy areas, since it’s a part of ALO’s new update, but the area is shown covered in ice and snow, so there will likely be plenty of snow-based monsters on the island.

Finally, here are some screenshots from the game’s event scenes:

Sword Art Online: Lost Song producer discusses new characters, Hollow Fragment sequel, more

Published 2 hours ago. 14 comments.

Hollow Fragment sequel implied as something in development.

SAO-LS_02-24-15.jpg

The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has a new interview with Sword Art Online: Lost Song producer Yosuke Futami, who discusses everything from a the game’s new characters to a Hollow Fragment sequel and more.
Get the summary below.

  • Unlike Sword Art Online‘s previous dealing with life and death, this time the basis isn’t as gloomy.
  • Rain joins the group around the middle of the game.
  • Seven isn’t very good at the game, but she is the leader princess of her guild, Shamrock.
  • Shamrock also maintains gameplay guides in real-life.
  • It was either Agil and Eugene as being playable, and Agil was decided upon.
  • There is no “affection level” this time, but events are triggered based on the combination of characters.
  • This one is developed by Artdink, not Aquila, which developed Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. Strictly speaking, the game therefore isn’t a direct sequel per se to Hollow Fragment, but rather considered a new game altogether. Development has been ongoing since before Hollow Fragment‘s release.
  • As for that Hollow Fragment sequel that Futami wanted to make if that game sold well… (it’s implying this is likely something in the works).
  • Because Lost Song and Hollow Fragment are different games, Hollow Fragment‘s save data is not compatible, but it’s still best to hold onto save data from Hollow Fragment.
  • Magic is now easier to use.
  • Battle transitions are seamless.
  • Maps in the game were previously stated to be 16km. squared, but this is a statistical mix up with a mecha action game (Macross 30). In reality, they’re 1km. squared each, but because there are a number of islands dotted around the game, it’s still a considerably large world.
  • The game’s story is 20 to 30 hours long, but it will take longer with the higher difficulty quests and raising.
  • Character raising is like the first game. Rather than leveling up, you’ll increase your skill strength.
  • Significant updates will be released post launch, and weekly quests will also be delivered. All updates and downloadable content will be free.
  • Strea is in the game as though nothing happened. Futami wants to give her a story in the future.
  • Futami also wants to take on PlayStation 4 development. If it’s something you want, please make some noise and show there is support from consumers to help convince the company.
Thanks, Sokuho@Hokanko.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song has custom character creation

Published 1 min ago. 0 comments.

A look at custom characters across the nine races.

Players will be able to create their own character for use online in Sword Art Online: Lost Song, Bandai Namco announced.
At the Einherjar tavern in the Sky City of Line, where adventurers go to meet up, players can create their own custom character. You’ll be able to customize your character’s race, hairdo, hair color, skin color, and voice. Although customization elements are limited, you’ll be able to create a character different from Kirito and friends.
Below, you’ll see customized character examples for the game’s nine different races:

Salamander

Salamanders can wield two-handed and one-handed swords, as well as knuckles. They’re an attacker type, specializing in close combat and fire-type magic.

Sylph

Sylphs can wield rapiers, daggers, and bows. With its physical and magic attacks, they come in handy in all situations. They specialize in wind-type magic.

Undine

Undines can wield one-handed swords, staffs, and bows. They specialize in water-type and recovery magic, and act as the party’s support.

Cait Sith

Cait Siths can wield knuckles, daggers, and bows. They’re also the only “Beast Tamers” of the nine races, able to summon familiars to the battlefield.

Leprechaun

Leprechauns can wield spears, staffs, and two-handed axes. In addition to acting as the party’s vanguard, it can also bestow support effects to allies.

Gnome

Gnomes can wield two-handed axes, knuckles, and two-handed swords. With its high stamina and attack power, it is strong in close combat. It specializes in earth-type magic.

Spriggan

Spriggans can wield one-handed swords, staffs, and daggers. Its magic can debuff enemies, and it also has special skills that will aid adventurers.

Imp

Imps can wield katanas, one-handed swords, and staffs. It balances both physical and magic attacks with ease, and specializes in dark-type magic.

Pooka

Pookas can wield staffs, daggers, and bows. For all of its cuteness, it’s an impressive race. It is the only race that can use the special “Song” power.
Custom Characters in Single-Player
You can also use your customized character in story mode (not just multiplayer). However, the story will still progress as if you’re playing as Kirito.
Beast Tamers
Cait Sith characters such as Silica and Argo can fight with their tamed familiars.

Sub-Episodes
In addition to the main story, there will be various sub-episodes for players to enjoy.

In this screenshot, Yui and Silica have something to ask of Kirito. Once those two get in his hair, they won’t stop at anything until they get what they want out of him….

In this screenshot, we see Asuna and Kirito on a date. Asuna is wearing her Yukata, which is a limited time item you can only get by playing this sub-episode. The other heroines have yukata costumes that can also be acquired somehow.

In this screenshot, we see Lisbeth explaining what player-made items are to Kirito.

Finally, here are some new CG event images.

While there are still no details on how the PvP works, it’ll be included as part of the game’s online multiplayer mode. The May update will also add a new boss.

As for the new character, they didn’t reveal who exactly, but judging by the silhouette, it looks highly likely to be Hiyori Kashiwazaka, a heroine from the spinoff manga Sword Art Online: Girls Ops, and goes by the name Lux.

Sword Art Online: Lost Song will get its major update sometime in May.
