The Official Hype Fitness Thread 6.0 - Part 8

Zimmer's Batman scores are just perfect for lifting weights. The rhythm is just right. Also, it was timed perfectly because it switched over to The Terminator pieces just in time for arms. :funny:
I like the Mask of the Phantasm theme. I like to pretend in my mind that I’m tuning my body for a career in vigilantism

Well, Shirley Walker's Batman theme is obviously the best Batman theme. There is a wonderful track from the BTAS soundtrack where she plays it herself on the piano and explains the composition. It is on YouTube as "Music of the Bat 101" if you have never heard it before.

But yeah, I started lifting weights in second year university after the one-two punch of Batman Begins and Casino Royale coming out. My end goal was to look like Bale in Begins. Got darn close before I injured my shoulder in law school.

So I feel you, which is why my workout Playlist is called "Becoming Batman". :funny:

@Babillygunn @Iceman so it's looking like I should finally soon be able to participate more actively in this thread. :D

First off, I got some awesome health news on Friday. Crohn's Disease isn't great for your liver I was ordered to lose 10% of my body weight (20lbs) to reduce liver fat (stupid Prednisone fat!). Which was hard as heck while not being able to work out due to my shoulder issues, but I did it and was given a clean bill of health by my specialist on Friday as blood work showed a "dramatic" improvement in liver markers.

Second, physiotherapy for my shoulders had reached a plateau so my therapist told me to try a full on workout for investigative purposes. It just went much better than anticipated and helped pinpoint what issues are holding this back.

Did an old school full body bodybuilding workout based on Arnold's Golden Six:
Squats
Bentover Rows
Chest Press
Lat Pulldowns
Overhead Press
Glute/Hamstring Bridges (undo anterior pelvic tilt from sitting at a desk)
Lateral Raises
Skullcrushers Superset with Biceps Curls
Reverse Crunches (once again for lower abs and that pesky pelvic tilt)

Workout Playlist:
Did it all in 1 hour with 1 minutes rests between sets. Aimed for 3 working sets of 8-12 after a light warmup set for each exercise with reduced weight.
Welcome!! Hope you'll be here to stay. Much easier to get motivated when there are more of us giving each other a boost.

You have crohns? Sorry to hear if so and I hope it's not too bad. Well done on losing the weight, it's a lot! Great news on the health markers.

Also good sign with getting through that workout. You're an Arnie fan right? Think I've seen previous posts from you suggesting that. :D Arnie looks aesthetically best to me in Predator, not too big, and I started working out like crazy as soon as I'd watched that (also watched Terminator and Total Recall all for the first time on the same day as a kid).

I know all about those glute/hamstring bridges - supposed to be doing rehab but struggling to keep up with it. I am officially back in the gym supposedly 3 times a week, but when I miss a session it means a whole body part/area is missed for the week so maybe I should consider full body workouts like this to help on weeks when I'm going to miss days. Can't wait to be back to having no long term tendon issues.

Oh and awesome playlist!! Can't fail with that lol, I may have to try it.

Yeah, my Crohn's has in complete remission for a few years now thankfully. But before that it was part of why I wasn't able to address my shoulder issues properly at the time. So dealing with my shoulders now has involved untangling 10 years of compensation patterns.

Yup, huge Arnie fan of course. Predator is a great look, but for me it will always be the 1974 Olympia:

But yeah, do your Rehab or else I will come to England and smack some sense into you! :hehe:

Oh, excellent news! Relieved to hear that.

Ah I think I am beginning to understand re compensation patterns. I think my left glute/hamstring tendon issues are a compensation due to my right achilles first getting into issues a year ago. 10 years of unravelling can't be straightforward, but all the relearning is worth it when you can have an almost clean slate to power your long term health forwards from.

Oh yeah, peak power, peak ripped, Arnie is no.1 and classic.

Haha, this is why we need new/returning blood here with a whole bunch of regulars no longer posting or even on the site. :csad: Babilly's been going easy on me, sometimes we need that aggressive push. :D

So many of your posts are basically, “took a 10 minute break during work and ran 17 miles.”

I’m afraid to push you any harder. You may end up going full Barry Allen Crisis on Infinite Earths mode if you up your game any further!

Haha :D

I did impress myself with the running that I didn’t know I was capable of before the tendon stuff. Right now though need to be much more focused on rehab, keeping the regular gym habit and building the running back up slowly again.

Yesterday 4.4 mile run and then ankle/achilles and high hamstring rehab.

Today 2 hour 45 min walk and doing both rehabs again now.

Tomorrow expect to run in to work again and stop off at gym on the way and do back. Can do rehabs in the evening.

Saw physiotherapist today. Instructions are to keep with the full workouts with some minor adjustments to deal with the remaining shoulder issues. We think the issue is some remaining weakness in my left GH joint, rhomboids. Which combined with a super strong right lat throws things off. Overhead press and skullcrushers seemed to have caused some aggravation.

Modified workout tonight:
Squats holding a plate
Narrow Grip T-Bar Rows
Incline DB Press
Wide Grip Lat Pulldowns
Single Leg Glute/Hamstring Bridges
Lateral Raises
DB Triceps Kickbacks
DB Biceps Curls
Lying Reverse Flies for Rear Delt/Rotator Cuff/Rhomboids

My son ran a 4x400 relay tonight. He trucked over a runner who walked into his lane immediately after the handoff but he composed himself and proceeded to run the field down after initially taking the handoff in 4th place. It was a crazy fun race to watch.

It must be awesome watching your son play sports, and especially when he makes crazy comebacks like this! My sister at junior level was great at athletics and I loved watching her win races and pick up medals.

Also @Iceman , pumping iron was mandatory today as this man is within 1 hour of me right now:

Wow!! Don't suppose you could slip out of work for a view or a meet with the legend? :D

Yep, absolutely no excuse not to get on it when he's in town.

after getting into great shape my depression hit and my diet took a hit, my confidence fell and I had to come back to preworkout after kicking it for two months. At this point I’ll take whatever to workout

Seems like a detailed physio plan. Glad to see you're keeping up with it and hopefully make great progress.

I have actually started getting very dedicated with my own programme which I've surprisingly not been dong well with in the last month or so even though I'm normally conscientious with this kind of thing. Time has been the main issue and the rehab takes a while. For achilles it's 3 exercises with 3 sets of 30 reps per leg at 5 seconds for a full extension plus rest periods, then for hamstring same again with less reps per set. Takes between 1.5-2 hours if done properly.

I intend to keep this up for however long it takes though (likely many months), and then to continue even after I (hopefully) get back to full fitness as "prehab" so I can avoid these issues ever again. Got to say tendon issues seem to be much more persistent than some other serious injuries that I've seen other runners go through and come back from in less time.

Well it's certainly been a while since I posted uh

anything

But I weighed myself for the first time in about 6 months. Somehow gained a stone, (about 14 pounds). I'm pretty sure just because I'm working in a job where I'm burning a little less calories than I was (now a support worker, used to be an online shopper) and maybe intaking like 200-400 extra calories.

Time for the step counting!

Do it!

Yeah, losing out on the extra calories burned automatically through the prior job will make a difference and needs to be counteracted with some extra weights/cardio/general movement or less calories consumed to prevent gradual long term weight gain. I love step counters and recording them long term. Hope they can help you keep more active.

Have you already had consultations on your depression? Might need to try and tackle that too (know it’s a very tough one to crack) so it doesn’t hit your progress like this. Good luck

Through out the years yes. Need to get some meds again. Hard to have a strict diet when you’re dealing with other stuff. Thanks for your concern. I quit my pity party today and got back eating healthy And jogged 4 miles.

Depression really is horrible. When my youngest son was born almost 16 years ago, I contracted mono in the hospital and was sick for a few months. That actually affected my adrenal system and my dopamine and brain chemistry was all out of wack. That was a domino effect and I had some rough depression for about two years. Luckily, I found a nutritionist/herbalist who helped get me on some adrenal supplements that really helped. Later I talked with my doctor and told him that I was worried about dropping the supplements and he suggested that I take some low dose Lithium, which has also helped.

It’s amazing how getting the right nutrients can help. But the brain needs to be fed what it needs in order to get the chemistry right. Having your neuro-transmitters in balance is the difference between depression and contentment. Hopefully you can find what the brain needs to stimulate creating the appropriate balance in the brains chemistry.

I went out for a nice jog of just short of 3 miles last night. I’ve also had a couple of fun nights of basketball.

Last couple of runs have been 3.3 miles and 4.1 miles and have found them very hard and had to walk near the end. It’s been hot, I’m heavier and also taking care with the injuries. Also did nearly 2 hours of rehab late last night!

I understand it’s a big thing to deal with and if medication is needed and the best option (healthcare providers hopefully can make the best decision that relates to your situation), then I know it has helped some people I know. Hopefully the exercise itself can also help when you can get motivated to do it. I find it very hard to have a strict diet even when I have nothing going on so I can only imagine.

Well done! Best of luck in dealing with this and I hope this thread can at least provide some small support.

Don’t get discouraged. There’s no shame in periods of slowness, so long as there is progress forward.
At least that’s what I’m telling myself after this past half marathon, which I completed in my absolute worst time ever. I ran it faster a couple of years ago with a torn meniscus. :)

Agreed, & thanks. The rehab is the most important part for me now until my tendons are back to full strength with no pain and niggles, however long it takes. I’m also getting older than when I first started running so I’ll be happy whatever I achieve. Getting out there at all is a huge positive in my book.
