X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

Now that we know this is going into production late next year, the rumor mill will become Fantastic Four levels of annoying. LOL.

Hoping for a few things:
An American Charles Xavier
Proper accent for Storm
Family & team dynamics
COSTUMES!
Giant Sentinels
Making use of the war room

Lol good call with the War Room.

If Marvel is smart they'll start with the core X-Men and if that is a succes start branching out. They can handle multiple team movies and tv shows.

Essential members (mostly comics, but in general, these are the most popular)
The Professor, Cyclops, Jean, Iceman, Beast, Angel, Storm, the Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Shadowcat, Rogue, Psylocke, Gambit, Jubilee, Emma, X-23

B-tier X-Men that can be bigger with the help of the movies:
Polaris, Havok, Banshee, Bishop, Forge, Dazzler

Obscure X-Men who don't really have a following yet imo but could be useful in the movies:
Sunfire, Cecilia Reyes, Sage, Longshot, Marrow

Well known, but I wouldn't classify them as core "X-Men" as they serve a bigger role in other mutant teams:
Cable (X-Force), Magik (New Mutants)

Then there's the villains that joined the X-Men (in the comics), Marvel Studios could make them a full time villain or anti-heroes:
Magneto, Mystique, Juggernaut

Then if we count all the mutants have joined the X-Men in the comics, there are about 40 to 50 that I haven't mentioned yet. I hope they pick wisely. Whoever is in the first film, would most likely return in X-Men 2 and 3 unless they are killed.

And, honestly, call me crazy but I think Ka-Zar and the Savage Land could make an awesome film for MCU. It’s such a pulpy concept that could really pop on the big screen. It’s X-Men-adjacent, and then you can use the locale for future movies.
I wouldn't mind Marvel Studios' Ka-Zar. He's definitely different. But ever since Endgame, they have given so many ips their own movie:

1. Black Widow
2. Shang-Chi
3. Eternals
4. Deadpool
5. Thunderbolts
6. Blade
7. Fantastic 4
8. X-Men

And noticed how the last two are the most essential to the Marvel mythos and aren't being released earlier than the others. There's also several ips that were relegated to TV (She-Hulk, Daredevil, Moon Knight) and who knows if they will ever get their moment in the big screen. There's also reports for Nova and Young Avengers, the latter can be seen as Avengers spin off, but it just adds to the long list of projects.

There's just simply too many ongoing ips in the MCU. I'm rewatching the films for Multiverse saga and I am thinking when they are going to release Dr. Strange 3 and Black Panther 3 and sequels for Shang-Chi. If Marvels didn't flop, would there be a Capt. Marvel 3. Would we wait 4 to 5 years for a new X-Men, after the first X-Men is released. Marvel has an overcrowded issue and I don't think they have already sorted this out and if there's a plan that they can follow through. Mcu simply has gotten too big and out of control.

You're only getting Charles, Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, Beast, Jubilee, and Gambit and like it. :o

Focusing on the women is the best idea. The best x-men are women.

Not sure what they mean by lesser known x-men but tbh I think that leak is not legit anyway

There's probably at least 1 or 2 lesser known X-Men. I can't see the team having 3 lesser known and 3 major X-Men, in total of just 6 members.

Forge should be a shoe-in, as he could be the tech specialist of the team. Sage, if they need an IT specialist. And Cecilia Reyes, as the resident physician. These three would be useful even if they don't do action/fight scenes.

I hope the X-Men that we see in the first film is already divided in at least two squads. And that the film will feature an already big/well trained X-Men team, instead of just 5 to 8 X-Men plus the Professor.

And I want the first film to be like 3 hours especially if they feature 20 X-Men.

I think Armor could be a fun addition.
since some years ago, Ive thought Armor was a very strong candidate to appear on MS X-Men 1....... but after the powers change they did to Ms Marvel on her show, Im afraid Armor will be ruled out (at least from the first film).

But she had strong chances (young, asian, female and with a powerset not seen before in the X-Men franchise. Perfect for Marvel Studios then).
At the same time... choosing Armor instead of Jubilee would be another slap in the face to Jubilee/90s/TAS fans, that have been waiting to see her done justice on at least one movie. We'll see what happens, tho...

Jubilee I think is guaranteed. They are also going to need X-Men who weren't highly visible in the Fox X-Men movies, to differentiate this rebooted version. So far, Jubilee is checking all the boxes for Marvel Studios' X-Men '28.

As for Armor, she was one of the few standouts in the 2000s era in the comics, who joined the X-Men for the first time as a member. Iirc, among her peers, she was the first one to join the team (Astonishing X-Men), though they didn't really do much with her after Joss Whedon left the X-Men comics. She also appeared in X-Men Anime as a main character. She's currently serving as an important character in Ultimate X-Men comics, which is set in another reality. And she has unique mutant ability.

But in terms of female X-Men, she's not even close in the top ten, popularity wise and general importance in the X-Men mythos.
1. Storm
2. Jean Grey
3. Rogue
4. Shadowcat
5. Psylocke
6. Emma Frost
7. Jubilee
8. Mystique
9. X-23
10. Polaris
11. Dazzler
12. Magik

So I think its a Longshot from happening. Maybe as a background student, there's more possibility for that.

Other female X-Women from the comics include Petra, Sway, Cecilia Reyes, Marrow, Sage, Stacy X, Lifeguard, Danger, Cloak, Rachel, Hope, Kwannon, Gabby, Husk, Monet, Lady Mastermind, Frenzy, Omega Sentinel, Hepzibah, Warbird, Aurora, Blink, Wolfsbane, Mirage, Karma, Magma, Boom Boom, Domino, Ariel, Trinary, Pixie, Oya, Kamala, Firestar and Rasputin 4.

Its large group of selection.

I think Jubilee is a must .

Overall, I think they should stick with a team made up of largely of familiar characters ,with a few new additions from the GA's perspective.

I think the studio needs to come out strong, and not throw in a bunch of lesser know ,and less popular teammates, for the sake of doing something different.

I think Cyclops , Rogue ,and Storm will be there regardless , but I wouldn't mind also seeing characters Sunspot (given X Men 97), Emma Frost , Gambit , and Jubilee .

I gotta think they'll use Rogue as well, even though she was featured prominently, in the OG films.

They could always feature the lesser known characters at the School , but in terms of the team, I think it would be a mistake for Feige to not utilize some of the strongest, and beloved characters, based on the assumption ,that general audiences " will be interested regardless".

Then as the films go on they can start populating the team with lesser known and less popular characters .

That's my view at least.

Assuming the leak is true at all, which I have my doubts that immediately puts to rest the OG5 theories, and I would think them wanting to use lesser known characters would mean that the more well known characters have already passed through the school and are now out in the world.

Idk if its a popular Theory and I'm sure since the reception of the Marvels plans could have changed but seeing as How F4 is set in an alternate universe, I wonder if Marvel would do the same for this first X-Men film, it would give the writer/director complete freedom to build a world/lore of a planet inhabited by mutants without doing a lot of set up.

the rumor said they will introduce a few new characters not seen before in live action along with the popular ones.
so they wont drop the big names, they will just add 1 or 2 new faces for "Fox's audience"

The boldest thing they could do is keep Jackman as Old Man Logan, and have Laura be Wolverine.

Being female, I disagree. I love my boys -- Gambit, Wolverine and Beast. :D

Love that Gambit! :swoon:

Keep any of Logan's clones out of the first three movies. If they put Laura in the movies, she's most likely going to be prioritized over the other X-Men.

As for the Wolverine, he's already getting a lead role in a Mcu film this year, so yeah. There's really no need for him to appear in Marvel Studios' X-Men '28 aside from a cameo role.

I think Armor could be a fun addition.

Who?

Focusing on the women is the best idea. The best x-men are women.

I disagree. Some of the most popular X-Men are women but not all.

I don't want a "girl power" movie. I want a good X-Men movie with great power displays and that involves the X-Men working as a team, not treating the men as useless whilst women save the day.

But in terms of female X-Men, she's not even close in the top ten, popularity wise and general importance in the X-Men mythos.

Of that first list of 12, I know who 11 of them are. Magik I've heard of but couldn't tell you any more than that. Is she Colossus' sister or is that someone else?

Of that other list of women:

Cecelia Reyes- Wasn't she the Doctor in X-Men 3?

Marrow- I know she's a Morlock, was in X-Men Legends 1, Gambit saved her from the Morlock massacre as a girl, and she cameoed in episode 5 of X-Men 97. Spyke in X-men evolution was basically a male version of her.

Cloak- I think crossed over onto Runaways as part of Cloak and Dagger. I don't know if that's meant to be the same person or not.

Rachel- Is that meant to be Rachel Summers, daughter of Cyclops and Jean Grey? If so, that's all I know of her.

Kwannon- Thanks to the Psylocke/Kwannon thread on this forum, I know she's the body that Betsy Braddock got body swapped into. Quick question: is the superspeed and Psionic sword Betsy's powers or Kwannon's powers that Betsy could then access?

Lady Mastermind- I presume that's just a female version of Mastermind? I only know who he is thanks to X-Men evolution.

Warbird- The name rings a bell. Was she in alpha flight (Wolverine's old team from the original animated series) or was she the one in X-Men 97 episode 6?

Aurora- I think she was listed as the white haired woman at Gambit's funeral in X-Men 97 episode 7 Other than that I have no clue who she is.

Blink- I know who she is thanks to X-Men legends 2 and the days of future past movie.

Magma- Thanks to X-Men Legends 1 and X-Men evolution I know who she is, though they were different versions of the same character.

Boom Boom- I know who she is thanks to X-Men evolution.

Domino- I know who she is because of Deadpool 2 and I think she's been in one of the cartoons with a chalk white face and a black patch around her eye.

Pixie- Is she the one in X-Men 97 episode 5 that had the fairy wings on her back?

The others I've never heard of.

I think Jubilee is a must .

I agree People want to see the famous X-Men, not the obscure ones.

Storm, without a doubt, is a shoe in. Given that they have Captain Marvel in the MCU, to not have Rogue take her powers and become the super strong and flying Rogue from the Fox animated series would be a terrible waste of opportunity. Cyclops you have to have, if you have Cyclops then you have to have Jean Grey, Gambit goes with Rogue, Jubilee has been on the peripheral of the X-Men movies so it would be good if she actually got chance to display her powers.

Storm
Cyclops
Jean Grey
Rogue
Gambit
Jubilee

I think they will just go with the animated series line up to start with because that is what the general audience know from the cartoons, games and movies, etc.

Magik is indeed the sister of Colossus. She appeared in the 90s cartoon and X-Men Legends videogame. She also appeared in the critically panned movie, The New Mutants.

The doctor in X-Men 3 was Dr. Kavita Rao M.D (and there was also Dr. Moira MacTaggert). While Cecilia Reyes was turned as a villain in the critically panned movie, The New Mutants.

Cloak is the same character from the Runaways/Cloak&Dagger. Cloak and Dagger are mutants. Though I have mixed up their gender. Dagger is the female X-Women,not Cloak.

Lady Mastermind is the daughter of the original Mastermind, Jason Wyngarde.

Warbird has no appearance in X-Men '97, Deathbird has. Warbird is not a member of Alpha Flight. Snowbird is the member of Alpha Flight. Warbird iirc is from the Shiar Empire.

Aurora is the twin sister of Northstar. She's a member of the Alpha Flight.

And yes, you are right about Pixie.

I'm curious to see how big the initial line-up will be? Going just off the first Avengers and GOTG, 5-6 members seem like the soft spot when compared to the Eternals introducing 10 new characters.

That said, my line-up would probably look something like this:

Cyclops
Jean Grey
Storm
Jubilee
Iceman
Beast

I think I most agree that we need to keep the roster limited, but I think I’d go with this:

- Cyclops
- Jean Grey
- Storm
- Wolverine
- Iceman
- Beast

Jubilee is the new recruit, with Angel as a supporting character (and former X-Man). I’d tie Warren’s father’s company to the Sentinel program, and he ultimately rejoins at the end.
