New Ys Game In The Works For PlayStation 4 And PlayStation Vita. September 1, 2014 . 12:41am

Falcom announced their first PlayStation 4 game and it’s a Ys title. A trailer showed Adol jumping around, climbing on vines, and fighting monsters with Dogi.

i didn't know that, i thought this was gonna be exclusively for Ps4

yep that's why I'm telling you about it. To let you know

well thanks. i just ordered the previous Ys for vita on ebay

The New Ys Game Will Take Place In An Era Sometime Before Ys Seven. September 3, 2014 . 12:48am

The new Ys title will also depict an overall strong sense of the “sea” as a theme. As far as gameplay goes, they’ll introduce new action elements and systems, too.

Earlier this week, Falcom announced that they’re working on a new Ys title for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, which looks similar to Ys Seven on PSP. This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine tells us a little more about the upcoming game. [Thanks, Hokanko-Alt.]

According to Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo, they’re thinking about having the game take place in an era that takes place sometime before Ys Seven, with plans to write something that fills in the blank between Ys V and VI.

The new Ys title will also depict an overall strong sense of the “sea” as a theme. As far as gameplay goes, they’ll introduce new action elements and systems, too. The game will feature new characters along with the appearance of others from past Ys games.

President Kondo says that the staff are currently going through plenty of trial-and-error on the development for PlayStation 4, but their motivation is high as ever. They also want to try something using the PS4’s share function.

Finally, he says that they’re working their hardest so that they can release the game as soon as possible. More details on the new Ys game will be revealed soon, perhaps during Tokyo Game Show 2014 late this month.

The upcoming Ys game will release in Japan sometime in 2015 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

this is even less of a popular series than persona, isn't it?

Yeah, Ys is pretty niche.

so was the souls series, although due to its popularity I think it's become a little mainstream. which is one reason I can see bloodborne being a big hit.

slightly off topic cause of the plat form , but still the same game

Up for some arcade-ish JPRG action this week on your PC? Today GOG just released Ys I & II Chronicles+, Ys: The Oath In Felghana, and Ys Origin on its always DRM-free service. On top of that, GOG offers a 25% off launch discount, cutting the price on Ys Origin down from $19.99 to $14.99. And if that wasn’t enough, buying any of the Ys games from GOG will also net you 12 HD wallpapers! (Yay?)

All that said, these games have been on Steam for some time, but they’re currently not discounted, so here’s the title for folks that prefers a DRM-free version.

Other good sales this week includes Civilization: Beyond Earth for 50% off at the Mac Game Store with a stacking tiny 5% off coupon cutting the price to $23.74. Currently the lowest price we’ve seen for a Steam key of the game (FYI: its a SteamPlay title, meaning the same key they email out to you will work for both PC and Mac). Finally, Valkyria Chronicles makes an encore sale at GamersGate, hitting a respectable $9.

Game deals from the crew at Dealzon. Disclaimer: sales from certain retailers help support Siliconera.

Morning, guys! Today's been strange. I tried to brew coffee but somehow forgot to add coffee. ...I brewed hot water.
2:17 PM - 19 Nov 2015
Update: the tweet appears to have been some sort of misunderstanding, according to the writer, so it’d be safe to take it with a grain of salt for now.

While it could simply be XSEED Games’ PR talking about an innocent morning mishap and just happened to post an image of a game that recently got a PC port in China late last month, our gut feeling tells us that brewing hot water = Steam. If that happens to be the case, the Steam announcement will likely be made soon.

Ys: Memories of Celceta is currently available for PlayStation Vita. The PC version released in China last month on October 28, courtesy Joyoland.

Ys VIII starts when Adol is washed ashore a cursed island
Published 9 hours ago. 71 comments.

Latest Ys game features city-building elements.

Ys-8-Prologue-Sokuho-Dengeki.jpg

The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has first details on Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, the next entry in the Ys series slated for a summer 2016 release on PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan.

Here’s how the game starts:
In South Greek, in the waters of the Goethe Sea, Adol is aboard a passenger boat called “The Lombardy” heading from Xandria towards the continent of Eresia, when the the ship is attacked and sunk by a mysterious, large monster. When Adol wakes up on a sandy beach, he realizes he is on the cursed “Siren Island.”
In an interview with the magazine, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo said that in addition to speedy, party-based battles and various skills, there will be a new jump action and other elements, including a castaway and co-op system. On this island, players can build a “Drifting Village” base to rescue other castaways that drift ashore. There will also be “Counter-Attack Battles” where players must defend the base.

Kondo added that with the new setting of Siren Island, they’re being a lot more particular about the atmosphere of the terrain, scenery, and such.
Dengeki PlayStation also has some new screenshots, including what appear to be conversation scenes with a green-haired giant and an orange-haired woman.

If you missed it, catch the game’s latest screenshots here.

Thanks, Sokuho@Hokanko.

Ys VIII details prologue, Adol Christin
Published 3 hours ago. 59 comments.
Adol washes ashore a cursed island.

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots, detailing the action RPG’s prologue and main character Adol Christin.

Get the information below.
Prologue

Do you know of the adventurer Adol Christin?

The extraordinary adventurer Adol Christin has challenged many adventures in his lifetime, and left behind over a hundred of volumes of “Adventure Journals” detailing his adventures.

This story is one volume of his “Adventure Diary.” Written in the “Goethe Sea Guidance Chronicle,” this is one of Adol’s adventures—.
“Siren Island.”

Ys-VIII_0-28-16_001.jpg

In an archipelago of South Greek, in the waters of the Goethe Sea, rumor has it that a mysterious ship was sunk.

Adol is aboard a passenger ship called “The Lombardy” heading from Xandria towards the continent of Eresia, when the ship is suddenly attacked by a huge oceanic creature, and together with its passengers, sunk.

When he wakes up, he is on a glittering white sandy beach. Adol notices the open see offshore.
This is “Siren Island,” known otherwise as the “forever cursed island.”

The island is of primitive nature untouched by man. It has strange creatures that evolved differently from those of the outside world. The island is dotted with mysterious ruins of ancient civilizations, as well.

Ys-VIII_0-28-16_002.jpg

In order to rescue the passengers drifting ashore and defend themselves from the “Ancients” that attack humans, Adol builds a “Drifting Village” as a base.

Before long, Adol has a strange “dream” on this island. There is a mysterious girl with blue hair, and she lives in an unknown world.

Why is this island known as the “forever cursed island”? What is the hidden mystery of this island? And who is the girl who appeared in Adol’s dream?

Buried in the waves of legend on a solitary island in the distant sea, Adol’s new adventure begins.

Adol Christin

Ys-VIII_0-28-16_003.jpg

21 years old. A young man with fiery read hair and black eyes clear as a boy’s.
At age 16, he left his nameless mountain village in the Europe Region, and went on a number of adventures, including to the the ancient kingdom of Ys and the Celceta Sea. He’s young, but his name is well known as an adventurer.
He was aboard The Lombardy on the Goethe Sea when it was attacked by a mysterious giant oceanic creature, and goes missing along with its passengers.

Ys VIII introduces Raksha and Sahad
Published 2 hours ago. 22 comments.
New details from the latest Dengeki PlayStation.

Ys-Charas_02-08-16.jpg

The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation introduces two new characters set to join Adol Christin on his adventures in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana.

Get the details below.
Raksha

19 years old. She uses a rapier in battle. She is the daughter of the noble Roswell family of Garman, and as a noble conducts herself politely. While confused by the lifestyle of the Drifting Village, she works with Adol and company using her profound knowledge of ancient ruins, and plants and animals. In battle she is fast and has good reach, but since she can’t target many enemies at once, she finds herself in trouble when surrounded.

Staff Comment: The Garman area is located in the northeastern part of the Romun Empire, and many of its people are made of fortitude and vigor. This is the first time Raksha is meeting Adol and company. By taking advantage of her reach, you can follow up a preemptive attack with consecutive attacks.

Sahad

41 years old. He uses an anchor in battle. He is a fisherman from the Greek area and has a lovable personality. He works with Adol in order to return to his hometown where his family is waiting. He has high attack power and can attack many enemies at once, but has open spots.

Staff Comment: When it comes to playable characters in the Ys series, he is the oldest. He was a passenger on the same boat as Adol.

Adol

(Adol has already been detailed.)
Staff comment: He’s the balanced character in battle.
System

Attacks have three attributes: “Slash,” “Shoot,” and “Strike.”
When you attack your enemy’s weak point, they’ll “Break” and all attributes will damage it.

Staff Comment: The Break system has an exhilarating feeling about it. We’re planning parts of the game that use the PS Vita touch screen. There is a possibility that Adol and friends will be wiped out by an Ancient attack. Ancients are completely different creatures from dragons and have no connection to the Five Dragons of Altago. Also, the jump action and switching between characters may seem similar to Tokyo Xanadu, but in this game, all of your party members appear on screen.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is due out for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in Japan this summer.

Ys VIII details Raksha, Sahad, The Isle of Seiren, and Ancient Species

The noble-born and the fisherman.

Ys-VIII_02-12-16_Top.jpg

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots, detailing new characters Raksha and Sahad, who were first introduced in Dengeki PlayStation, as well as the Isle of the Seiren where the game is set and the Ancient Species that inhabits it.
Get the information below.

■ Characters

Raksha (19 years old)

Ys-VIII_02-12-16_001.jpg

“An ‘adventurer’? I would never acknowledge such a facetious title!”

Daughter of the noble Roswell family of Garman.
As a noble, she always tries to conduct herself politely, but with her high pride and stubborn personality, she’s racing for disaster.

While confused by the environment of the Drifting Village, with its mixed social statuses and jobs, she uses her profound knowledge of ancient ruins, plants, and animals to work with with Adol and friends.

Sahad (41 years old)

Ys-VIII_02-12-16_002.jpg

“Ga ha ha, I was saved thanks to you. I love you two!”
A lively, openhearted, and cheerful fisherman from the Greek area.

The noble-born Raksha is shocked by his crude and ill-mannered conduct, but as he is human, he has his sentimental moments too. He is a man of the sea with a personality that can’t really be hated.

He seems to have a family back home, and works with Adol and friends to escape Siren Island.

■ Keywords

The Isle of Seiren

Ys-VIII_02-12-16_003.jpg

An island that exists in the Goethe Sea south of Greek.
It is rumored that a ship passing through its adjacent waters mysteriously sank, and that the island is uninhabited.
The island gets its name from a regional legend of a monster whose singing causes voyagers to become confused and sink their boats.

The Isle of Seiren is also known as the “Forever Cursed Island,” and no one willingly approaches it.

Ancient Species

Ys-VIII_02-12-16_004.jpg

The general term for the heteromorphic creatures that live on Siren Island.
While they range from huge reptiles and birds to fish and other forms, they have a clearly different ecology from creatures outside the island.
There are brutal-type Ancients who attack those that drift ashore the island, and although believed to be some sort of monsters, there is a theory that they’re ancient creatures who have undergone their own evolution in an environment isolated from the outside world.
If you missed it, the last update detailed the prologue and main character Adol.

Ys VIII details attack attributes, Break system

Published 2 hours ago. 6 comments.
"Break" the enemy to make it weak against every attribute.

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots introducing the game’s battle system attack attribute and break elements.

Get the information below.
■ Attack Attributes
Character weapons have three attack types: “Slash,” “Strike,” and “Shoot.” The amount of damage dealt by the weapon increases or decreases based on its compatibility with the enemy, so it’s best to switch between characters while fighting in order to deal sufficient damage to the enemy.

(1) Slash

Ys-VIII_02-18-16_001.jpg

The slash-the-enemy-with-a-sword-type attack attribute. These exhibit tremendous power against soft-bodied enemies that absorb impacts.
—Adol’s Weapon: Sword (Slash)
Fight with an orthodox fighting style with the one-handed sword. Although there are no protruding elements, its power and speed are above standard and easy to handle, allowing players to deal with various situations.

(2) Strike

Ys-VIII_02-18-16_002.jpg

An impact-the-enemy-type attack attribute. Deal a large amount of damage to the enemies with hard shell-like armor by inflicting direct blows.
—Sahad’s Weapon: Anchor (Strike)
Attack surrounding enemies with a huge anchor. On one hand, you’re liable to be left with a weak spot swinging so big, but enemies in the area will get caught in your powerful attack.

(3) Shoot

Ys-VIII_02-18-16_003.jpg

A long-reaching, long-distance-type attack attribute.

Compared to Slash and Strike, its power is weaker, but allows you to aim for agile enemies such as flying types.
—Raksha’s Weapon: Rapier (Shoot)
Attack frontward enemies with high-speed thrusts with the thin rapier. The speediest of the three character weapons, it has considerable speed and focuses its attack area frontward, so this makes Raksha weak to blind spot attacks and puts her in a pinch when surrounded by enemies.

■ Break (New System)
By attacking an enemy with an attribute they’re weak to and dealing a certain amount of damage, they’ll enter a “Break” state. In the Break state, the enemy’s weakness attribute is eliminated, and all three attack attributes—Slash, Strike, and Shoot—will deal a great amount of damage. Additionally, the Break state invokes things such as as enemies dropping rare items and flying-type enemies no longer being able to fly, so there are a variety of benefits.

Ys VIII has dual protagonists

Published 14 hours ago. 47 comments.

Dana joins the seasoned adventurer Adol.

Ys-8-Dual-Protags.jpg

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
will have two protagonists, the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu reveals.

Joining Adol as a protagonist is the mysterious blue-haired girl we’ve previously seen in the game’s key visual, whose name is now revealed as Dana. She appears in Adol’s dreams, and through those dreams, you’ll be able to experience Dana’s way of life. Her power and speed exceeds even that of the veteran hero Adol.

Dana’s story, which Adol will see in his dreams, will affect his very adventure itself. Also, Dana seems to recognize Adol, and Adol’s actions will considerably affect Dana’s story.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Will Have Two Protagonists. February 23, 2016 . 3:30am

The character in question is “Dana,” the mysterious blue-haired girl that appears in Adol’s sleep.
While Adol dreams, he’ll get to relive her life and experience it for himself.

Falcom revealed in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine that their upcoming PS4 and PS Vita action RPG Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will have an additional protagonist to go with Adol. [Thanks, Hachima.]

The character in question is “Dana,” the mysterious blue-haired girl that appears in Adol’s sleep. While Adol dreams, he’ll get to relive her life and experience it for himself. Dana is said to have more power and speed than the veteran hero Adol.

As an interesting twist, what happens in Dana’s story while Adol experiences in his dreams will influence what happens in his own adventure. Again, Adol’s existence seems to be recognized in Dana’s part of the story, so actions that Adol takes will also influence Dana’s story.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will release in Japan in summer 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

Ys-VIII_02-26-16_002.jpg

“Fiery red hair…. Who was that person, I wonder?”
A mysterious, blue-haired girl who appears in Adol’s dreams. Contrary to her lovely appearance, her actions are often bold and imaginative, and can even surprise those around her.
She has never seen the Eresia continent, and seems to live in an area that possesses a very advanced civilization. Players will experience the life of this girl through Adol’s dreams, but…

—Attack Attribute: Slash

Ys-VIII_02-26-16_003.jpg

Dana uses two, highly curved, crescent moon swords, and twists her body while quickly slashing and delivering one attack after the next. With her agile speed, the slashes brought forth by her rotational power exceeds even the offensive ability of Adol.

■ System Introduction (Dual Protagonists Adol and Dana)

In Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, Dana joins Adol as a second protagonist.

There’s Adol, who lives the washed-ashore life on The Isle of Seiren…

Ys-VIII_02-26-16_004.jpg

…and Dana, who players will control and whose story will develop in Adol’s dreams.

Ys-VIII_02-26-16_005.jpg

But just who is Dana? Why does she only show up in Adol’s dreams?

And what is the truth hidden on The Isle of Seiren? Through Adol and Dana’s stories, all will gradually be revealed.

More information about the next Ys game's battle system.

Falcom has released new Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana information and screenshots introducing the game’s skill attacks, and “Flash Guard” and “Flash Move” techniques.

Get the information below.
■ Skill Attacks: Swoop the Enemy with Powerful Skills!

Each character has a fixed amount of Skill Points, which can be used to actiave unique skill attacks.

Skill attacks are activated by pushing the skill button + the Circle, X, Triangle, or Square buttons. Each button is tied to a different skill. Skills can be set to the Circle, X, Triangle, and Square buttons in the menu screen.

Adol’s Exclusive Skill: Force Edge

Ys-VIII_03-03-16_001.jpg

Adol’s exclusive skill creates an aura with his sword blade, and collectively mows down the surrounding enemies. It’s an easy to use skill with a wide attack range, and doesn’t take long to perform.

Laxia’s Exclusive Skill: Slyphide Kiss

Ys-VIII_03-03-16_002.jpg

Laxia’s exclusive skill sees her point her rapier to the sky, from which a tornado converges. It is particularly effective against flying enemies, and can deal consecutive damage by hitting the enemy in multiple stages.

Sahad’s Exclusive Skill: Seine

Ys-VIII_03-03-16_003.jpg

Sahad’s exclusive skill sees him throw a fishing net to the area in front of him, and damages all the enemies that become entangled in its ropes.

Dana’s Exclusive Skill: Ice Edge

Ys-VIII_03-03-16_004.jpg

Dana’s Exclusive skill sees her jump to the sky, and all at once strikes the ground with compressed waves of cold. It is a powerful skill that deals great damage to a wide range of enemies.

■ Flash Guard: Turn a Perfect Defense into a Critical Attack!

Ys-VIII_03-03-16_005.jpg

By pressing a button with proper timing in accordance with the enemy’s attack, “Flash Guard” will be triggered.
When activated, the player character’s body will glow white with the attack, and all of the enemy’s attacks will have no effect.

Additionally, for a certain period of time after it is activated, since it makes all of the player’s attacks critical ones, you can deal great damage to the enemy via consecutive attacks and skill attacks.

■ Flash Move: Extreme Evasion Around the Battlefield!

Ys-VIII_03-03-16_006.jpg

If you perform an evasion action just before an enemy attack hits, a “Flash Move” will be triggered, and the player character’s offshoot will be displayed on screen.
The trigger time only lasts for a certain period, and with the exception of the player, slow-motions the enemy’s movement. By dodging an enemy’s big technique with a Flash Move, you can gain distance, move around to to the enemy’s back, and turn the battle in your favor.

New characters Ricotta and Hummel revealed.

Ys-VIII-Dated-July-21-Vita.jpg

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
will launch for PS Vita on July 21 in Japan, and for PlayStation 4 in 2017, the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation reveals. Both versions were previously given a “summer 2016” release window.

According to Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo, while the PS Vita version is being released first, development on the PlayStation 4 version is progressing side by side with the PS Vita version.

The magazine also reveals two new characters: a 12 year-old girl named Ricotta (voiced by Nozomi Yamamoto) who uses a whip-mace, and a 24 year-old man named Hummel (voiced by KENN) who uses a bayonet.

Ricotta is a girl who lived on The Isle of Seiren before Adol was shipwrecked and washed ashore, and knows the traits of the Ancients very well. She is waiting for the return of her father, who went out to explore the island, but… According to Toshihiro Kondo, she knows the island in detail and is the bright mood maker of the group. She joins the party in search of her father.

Hummel is a holed up courier on The Isle of Seiren who has pride in his work, but still keeps the requested goods adrift. He wields the latest weapon, known as a gun. According to Toshihiro Kondo, although those at the underside of society shouldn’t interact with the general public, he joins Adol for a certain purpose. Guns are rare in this world, and up until now, it appears Adol has yet to have seen one.
There is also information about some of the tools you’ll use on your adventure, including:

  • Grip Glove – Move up walls crawling with ivy.
  • Luminescence Stone – Faintly lights up the dark.
  • Gale Wings – Greatly increases your dash speed, and lets you use a ramming attack by dashing as well.
Additionally, voice actors for previously announced characters are also revealed:

  • Adol (voiced by Yuki Kaji)
  • Laxia (voiced by Natsumi Takamori)
  • Sahad (voiced by Hidenobu Kiuchi)
  • Dana (voiced by Saori Onishi)
Thanks, Games Talk, Hachima Kikou, Sokuho@Hokanko, and Ruliweb.

A “courier” of many mysteries hiding alone on The Isle of Seiren. He has extreme pride in his work, and finds it inexcusable to not handle a request flawlessly once contracted. He’s also fussy when it comes to cleanliness.

She’s innocent and not easily worn out, and she knows the island’s geography and traits of the Ancients very well. She seems to have learned knowledge and languages from the variety of books that washed ashore on the island, but the contents of said books are considerably one-sided, so she’ll sometimes say strange things. Get the information below.

■ Character Actions

Hummel (24 years old) (voiced by KENN)
—Basic Action: Weapon: Bayonet / Attribute: Shoot

Hummel fights combining shooting with thrust attacks by way of a blade attached to the tip of his gun. He has very high attack accuracy and demonstrates excellent strength against flying-type enemies. Because his attack range stretches to a straight line, he has considerable reach, and similar to the rapier-user Laxia, it is difficult for him to quickly attack from the left, right, and behind.

—Skill Attack: Precise Shooting

Ys-VIII_03-17-16_002.jpg

An accurate shooting attack aimed at distant enemies. There is a slight gap between from when you take form and until you fire, so you can use this timing to modify your aiming with the directional keys.

Ricotta (12 years old) (voiced by Nozomi Yamamoto)
—Basic Action: Weapon: Whipmace / Attribute: Strike

Ricotta fights with a whipmace created herself from the plants native to the island. Since the head of the mace is connected to the handle by elastic vines, she can lash the mace like a whip while dealing damage to a wide area of enemies.

Although she has the same “Strike” attack attribute as Sahad, her attack power is not as high, but she overcomes this with her maneuverability and number of moves. Since Ricotta’s attacks flare out in a circle around her, she can even deal with enemies in her blind spot.

—Skill Attack: Handmade Trap

A handmade trap created by Ricottta to capture the island’s monsters. Enemies caught in the trap, which is placed on the ground, cannot move and are continuously damaged for a fixed period of time.

■ System

While exploring the Isle of Seiren, you’ll come across special items called “Adventure Tools” when you meet certain requirements. The player will be able to equip these tools to enable various effects to the party and act as a big help in exploring the island.

Grip Glove

Add the ability to climb ivy, through which you can access areas not accessible on foot or by jumping.

Gale Wings

Greatly increases your speed while dashing. You can also dash while assaulting an enemy, becoming something of a ram attack.

Luminescence Stone

Faintly illuminates the circumference around the player. This will prove essential when exploring areas such as caves covered in darkness.

New characters introduced in Dengeki PlayStation.

The latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation has new information on Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana‘s systems and characters.
Get the information below.
■ System
Support Events
Events will trigger as you gather up the people that wash ashore the island for your village. For example, when you add specific characters as friends, you may be able to go to a new area.

Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo suggests that while it doesn’t have anything to do with the main story, there appears to be different routes, probably related to PlayStation Network trophies.

Drifting Village

As you develop your village, you’ll increase both its inhabitants and facilities. You can even farm. There are over 20 sub-characters, including characters you won’t meet if you’re only playing through the story.

■ Characters

Dogi (voiced by Kenta Miyake)

Ys-VIII-Scans_03-29-16_002.jpg

26 years-old. Adol’s long-time partner who last adventured with him four years prior. He went missing at the time of the sinking. His weapons and such have yet to be introduced.
Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo’s suggests that he will take on the duty of watching over the village, like Adol, but since their teams are split up by a defensive battle, he’ll likely be a battle character.

Captain Barbaros (voiced by Hirohiko Kakegawa)

Ys-VIII-Scans_03-29-16_003.jpg

46 years-old. A lively-looking, sincere gentlemen. The captain of the sunken Lombardy ship. He takes on the role of a leader that keeps the castaways in order.

Little Paro (voiced by Naoki Tatsuta)
A male parrot discovered by Captain Barbaros on the island. He takes on the role of a messenger after learning human language immediately.

Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo’s says that Barbaros is the captain you get to know after Ys V, who wants to help the passengers safely escape. Paro flies about and tells you about suspicious places, taking on a guidance role.

Interview Tidbits

  • The game’s volume is the greatest of any in the series so far.
  • PS Vita was decided as it’s the platform where many Falcom users play. Development on PlayStation 4 was decided with overseas in mind.
  • Dana, the game’s second protagonist, is out to gather her memories, but she’ll also have action elements.
  • The sub-title can be translated as the “Day of Tears” and is a very important keyword.
  • The concept is to understand the mystery behind the adventure.
  • Since the setting is an unpopulated island, each NPC is being carefully depicted, and all NPCs will have events.
  • Actions are much faster compared to Tokyo Xanadu.
  • You can customize weapons in a form outside of shops, and things can also be bartered.
  • There are situations where monsters will attack and a defensive battle will occur. There are also tower defense elements. If you lose a defensive battle, you’ll get a game over.
  • The game’s control are fully customizable.
  • Downloadable content is planned and consists of free things, as well as costumes and accessories.
■ Limited Edition and First-Print Bonus
An 8,800 yen PS Vita Limited Premium Box includes “Silver Armor” downloadable content for Adol (first-generation Ys Silver Armor costume), the ancient book “Adol’s Manuscript” (Japanese-translated), and an Ys limited metal plate.
First-print copies of the game include an original mini soundtrack.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is due out for PS Vita in Japan on July 21 and for PlayStation 4 in 2017.
Thanks, Sokuho@Hokanko, Hachima Kikou, and Ruliweb.
