Zac Efron stars in Wrestling Drama “The Iron Claw” | A24

This looks incredible. Can't wait.
so, have they given any explanation why chris von erich wont be in the movie?
Yeah, I'm confused by this, too. No actor listed, only the other four brothers included in all the promo so far, he gets left out of the "ranking" in the trailer... It's weird.

I found an article about this and Chris was written into the original script but they simply decided to remove him for narrative reasons. I understand not having Jack in the film but ignoring Chris is an odd choice.

Yeah, that's an... interesting choice. Wonder how the family feels about that?

I didn't realize this until now. That's a very odd choice. I feel like it should've been fairly easy to write him in, even if they had to leave a lot of his life out.

So far, the film has a 91% on RT with 32 reviews.

Looking forward to seeing this when it comes out!

Did Efron wear some sort of face prosthetic in this or does he just look like that from packing on a lot of muscle?

Not to be rude but that's not fully true from what I read. Yes he did severely injure his jaw but that was like 10 years ago. He got fillers since then. His jaw looked normal for a while. It's only recently that it's completely altered

But that's his business

According to him last year, the accident and surgery worsened over time.

As for how the 2013 injury impacted his appearance so many years later, he explained to Men's Health that it related to his masseter muscles overcompensating for the injured muscles in his face, combined with his temporary failure to continue with physical therapy.

The masseter muscles, the ones used for chewing among other things, work alongside the other muscles of the face “like a symphony,” according to the Neighbors star. After his accident, those masseter muscles had to pick up some of the slack to compensate for the injured ones. As a result, Efron has had to work with a specialist and do physical therapy for his jaw. However, back in 2021, Efron took some time off from physical therapy while in Australia, which accounts for his change in appearance at that time.

“The masseters just grew,” he explained, “They just got really, really big.”

This film shook me to my very core. Absolutely devastating, engrossing, and ultimately, life-affirming film. You feel the full spectrum of emotions with this story. I think this is one of the best films I've seen in years.

Holy hell. I mean, holy hell. What a gut punch of a movie this was. I don't think I've seen a wrestling film this impactful since...well, maybe since The Wrestler. I know nothing about the real life story behind this and can only judge it as a film, but this is a tale of tragedy. Forget what those Fast and Furious movies like to say- this film is all about family. A family defined by wrestling and one father's desire to keep pushing his kids to the extreme, regardless of the consequences. For them, wrestling is most, if not all of what they know, and it's telling that, with a few exceptions, we don't see the brothers' lives often outside of the ring because once they take that step into the ring, that becomes their life- with some dire circumstances.

I loved the family dynamic and how what starts off as just brothers having fun in the ring becomes more tragic and dangerous, even as they strive to not lose sight of that championship goal and respect that they feel their family is warranted. This film is well-directed with some great close-up shots that make you feel you're in the ring with the wrestlers. The acting is great across the board, and having not watched The Bear yet- I don't have Hulu- I'm impressed with Jeremy Allen White here. That said, Zac Efron impressed me. I can't believe I'd ever say that about someone mostly well-known for those High School Musical movies, but he was fantastic. Would not be surprised to see him get a Best Actor nomination.

It's a fantastic film that, I think, has easily shot into my top 10 of the year, if not top five.
