What's to Come From Live Action 'Star Wars' Television Series?

I'm not the biggest fan of the new Star Wars trilogy(Episiodes I-III, minus Episiode I; I really enjoyed that one), but I'm a fan of the older ones(Episiodes IV-VI). Now, I don't know what's going on with this development of a live action television series of Star Wars but I can honestly tell you that I personally cannot wait until it finally premieres. I really hope that it is alot better than Episiodes II-III but for now, I'm clueless. Anyhow I made this thread for fans of Star Wars to submit their ideas on how they would like to see this television series go. Here's my idea on how the series should go:
Star Wars the live action television series will take place all across the Star Wars universe. The series will follow unknown characters from the Star Wars franchise, while having cameos of some very well-known Star Wars characters from the franchise of films. Each different season of the series will follow different characters and their role in the battles between the Rebelion and the Empire, as well as the Clone Wars between the droid federation known as CIS and the clones known as the Republic. The cameos of well-known Star Wars characters will include: Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, Han Solo, Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, Lando Callrissian, Boba Fett, Jaba the Hutt, Obi Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, R2-D2, and more to appear throughout the series. The series pilot will open with the battle from Episiode II between the Republician Clones and the CIS Droid Federation; each episiode in the series will be a half-hour long each with the exception of the series opener and every season finale which will range from a full hour time slot. The television series will be featured on FOX and will show every Friday at 9pm. The series will run for an average 8-10 seasons long and each season will contain 20-24 episiodes. Each season premiere will introduce a new character and their role and duties in universe of Star Wars and will vary in order from different timelines in Star Wars universe.

Yeah, I'm just hoping it's not some sorta repeat off of Star Trek or something like that; I just want it to be fresh and creative.

I disagree with this idea. A similar vein to this was Heroes, in which the creator intended each season to focus on a new group of characters. However, fan reaction to this idea was very negative due to their attachment to the original cast and as a result, he tossed the idea aside. Secondly, it would be difficult to attract actors since they would then know that the role isn't a long-term, steady job.

Instead, I feel a better idea would be to set the story after the events of Star Wars Episode 6, ignoring/adapting the extended universe with alterations. An alternative idea would be to focus on a specific group of characters who weren't part of the central plot in the two trilogies, for example the Bounty Hunter Guild or some such.

agreed, horrible idea. I would much rather the show concentrate on new characters (if anyone watches smallville, that show has turned into a parade of superman cameos, which is exactly what this substandard idea would lead to). I hated the droids cartoon so much, because I was wanting star wars and didn't get it. These new characters should be pivotal ones in the post clone war period, unlike droids, where is was just a wander around the starwars galaxy, with no real goal or end in mind.

it should be about mon mothma, bail organa, and the other unknown hereos that found the rebel alliance. Throw some pre existing characters in there, like Kyle Katarn (pre jedi) and a pre trilogy boba fett. As well as a couple of random jedi survivors who would die along the way trying to confront vader, palpatine, and other evils.

I'm not to excited about this show, and don't think it will last very long, certainly not 10 seasons... it will be too expensive right off that bat to last that long. However, I too will keep an open mind. I thought the terminator tv show was a bad idea, but the premier was alright. But as far as this star wars tv show goes, it just sounds like one of the worst ideas ever.

Oh yeah, darn it. Yeah, I like your idea better because like I said before I was never a fan of the newer Star Wars films ranging from Episiodes I-III because they lacked originality and the heart of the original trilogy ranging from Episiodes IV-VI. Yeah, I don't want to see it turn into a Smallville-child but what I meant with my idea is that like; say a rebel solider is out-numbered in enemy territory, he peeks around the corner and spots Darth Vader walking out of an Imperial Cruiser Ship. That's about all I want to see from that having to do with the cameos in the television series.

maybe, but only a long way down the road (i.e. 4th or 5th season) and I don't think this show will make it that far.

Boba Fett and a lot of soldiers and pilots will most likely be involved in the early stages of the show. Hopefully the Purge continues throughout the show in some fashion. Although, I don't expect Vader or Palpatine except maybe in holonet clips.

Well, if you accept the Expanded Universe canon, he didn't die. Boba Fett apparently blew up the Sarlacc and crawled his way out of it.

As for a working premise, I think a series set post Episode III or between IV and VI featuring a group of mercenaries doing their best not to get involved in the conflict could work. Here, the group of smugglers are doing their best to avoid catching the Empire's attention, but would frequently get tangled up with the more criminal elements such as Jabba the Hutt, bounty hunters, etc.. In the individual episodes, they might work odd jobs such as smuggling, bounty hunting or simply as guns for hire.

Yeah, good idea. I think that it should start from the events where Episiode III ended and carry on up to Episiode IV.

They're doing it between Eps III and IV and eventually plan on having a spin-off or two depending upon the shows success. Apparently, 100 episodes are fleshed out on paper. With the strike though, I don't know how long off it will be until scripts are done and ready to go into production.

Yeah, that's always a problem. All that I know so far is that the show is supposed to be set for a release sometime next year in 2009.

but while avoiding attention, they some how constantly get sucked into the spotlight (this is tv after all), no matter how hard they try not to get involved

Originally they were pushing for 08, now it's 09. Depending upon the strike and George Lucas it may be 2010-11 at this point.

Well I hope this writer's strike ends soon because I really don't feel like riding the elevator all the way up to the top of the building while waiting for some awesome future projects to be released.

If it doesn't end soon then they should get regular everyday people to right the scripts; get them to write fan-fics to the company and allow them to choose which one is suitable for the picture. If not that then I don't know what else but we need our writers back, and we need them back now.

Most people won't write because if they write during the strike, they can never join the WGA and thus, really never get a job writing again.

Unless, the producers are able to find new writers for all (or most) of their series (and if they start hiring fanfic writers, it would be doable). In which case, they wouldn't need the WGA anymore. t:

Yes, but what are those writers to do when that show is over? Getting a job would be near impossible. For an aspiring writer looking at the big picture it wouldn't be worth it. Then again, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat and just wing it there after.

Well it's supposed to premiere somewhere around 2009 but that will undeniably be delaid thanks to this writer's strike. And, I'm not sure about which station it's gonna premiere on yet but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say FOX because they're the company that helped helm the Star Wars films.
