Liev Schreiber Speaks

I really don't like anything special about Sabretooth from X1, other than his height. He looked just a bit too much like a overgrown cat man. I wasn't a big fan of his eyes either.

His lack of personality didn't really make him that much interesting either.

Since the comics have portrayed BOTH extremes of the Creed character, it really boils to which interpretation of Creed do you mostly identify with.

Exactly. I don't mind Sabretooth in X-Men, because I think he works given that the focus of the movie wasn't supposed to be on the relationship between those two characters. Now, they have the opportunity to further explore it in Wolverine's own movie, where it belongs, and I think Schreiber will do a great job of adding more depth to the character and that relationship.

OKay i agree maybe not have him look exaclty like Sabretooth from x-men

but i mean imo Liev's Sabretooth doesnt look physically imposing like Manes Sabretooth

And while iam sure Liev's Sabretooth will be better i just wish he looked biggger and more intimidating

I mean he just looks like a vampire in a black trenchcoat which i guess can be pretty intimidating but i just dont get that feel from this Sabretooth he looks like someone that Wolverine would just own completley

It's because of Bryan Singer all simply.
Liev plays a sadist Sabret ok that's really good, but look at his physical. What a pity! (just adding him teeth and claws :(
Whereas T.Mane is tall, his physical is perfect for the character, his look is wild not like Liev as Sabret

If we would give a good role for Tyler Mane you will not despise him as Sabret :)

Liev Schreiber is not a small guy.

He is 6'4" and weighs about the same as Jackman.

Sure, Jackman is all muscle and Liev's just lean but the idea is to have them be equals.

Liev Schreiber sharpens his Sabertooth in new Wolverine film
Posted: December 17, 2008, 3:08 PM by Bob Thompson

Liev Schreiber's more of a serious-minded indie fellow than a comic book action dude, but he's getting his Sabertooth villian on in the Hugh Jackman Wolverine origins movie set for a high-profile release on May 1.

As one of Marvel Comics’ craziest bad guys, Sabertooth was a challenge, says Schreiber who had to prepare for "the fantastic fight scenes" like he never had before. Certainly, he knew Jackman would be fit. So he worked out accordingly for the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

"First of all Victor Creed is Sabertooth, and I just want everyone to know that my character has a name," he says smiling. "He's a person too."

Indeed, Creed/Sabertooth has a huge fan base, too. He just maybe one of the most popular Marvel nasties. And Schrieber admits he's aware of the Internet debates about whether he could pull off the difficult assignment of defining such a quintessential super-nasty.

So did he read the comics for research? "I read the comics before I got offered the part," says the 41-year-old. "I mean, I knew the character really well. Initially I'd been asked to play Stryker and I said, 'Is there any chance that I might be able to play this Victor Creed guy?'" he recalls.

Turns out there was, and Jackman say he thinks the movie is better for it, although he wouldn't get into details during promotional interviews for the recently released Australia.

However, Schrieber's more than happy to elaborate. "The research that I did on it told me Victor's mutant issue has nothing to do with his name Sabretooth," says the actor.

But that's where he decided to start. So he researched the ancient sabertooth animals and how they were supposed to have moved and what their base instincts were.

"I also knew the stuff from the comic," Schrieber continues. "I knew that the character was just a completely savage street fighter and that that was his MO. But what I hadn't seen in some of the earlier stuff that I was curious to pursue is figuring out what drives the guy and what are the qualities that developed because of that."

As with Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight, Schrieber says he hopes to elevate the characterization.

"It's like rather than just say that Sabertooth's a violent brute, I wanted to find out what makes the brute tick," he says. "Hopefully people will like it."

Schrieber fans better. He's co-headlining with James Bond's Daniel Craig in the film Defiance out in mid-January. Then his co-starring part in Wolverine might be the last movie we get to see him for a while.

On Saturday, his wife and actress Naomi Watts gave birth to Samuel, their second child. "That's going to keep me on the bench for a while," says the new father.

[Editor's note: The above happened. On Saturday, Schreiber and Watts welcomed their second child, Samuel.]

I wonder what comics he read. For me, the quintessential Sabretooth can be found in WOLVERINE #10, or any of Claremont's Sabretooth issues.

Oh oh..i think that quote will be shred to bits by the Dark Knight crazies. :whatever:

I love that issue.

I think they're gonna get into that in the movie too with the early fight at the barn after Logan finds Kayla dead.

It just means that he hopes to elevate the characterization of Sabretooth in a similar way that Ledger did with Joker.

Uhhhh...i know that. Do you have to one-up everyone?

But the few crazies, those over protective of the Dark Knight will badmouth anything that's compared to their precious movie. For an example check out any movie review over at rottentomatoes comparing a particular film to TDK, and you'll see a movie critic that will be shred to bits, some even sent death threats.

I love The Dark Knight, but it's fans scare me. :wow:

Well, be glad that this isn't rottentomatoes. :D

Ok :woot:
Liev is posing on a podium lol.
No I joke U

But it would be better to see the full picture.

Liev's calves are wayyy bigger than Jackman's.

That's Jackman's only flaw, his legs.

I don't know how Schreiber can have thick legs/quads at 6'4".

Hugh admits it himself about his legs:

“Are you self-conscious about any body part?”
When I was younger, I had chicken legs. My nickname was Sticks.

“What part do people like best?”
My smile. Lately my pecs. I'm being honest!

You know, to be perfectly honest here, Liev Schreiber playing Sabertooth has never bothered me because I frankly have never watched any movies he'd been in previously. My only issue is him not having blond hair.

Punisher War Zone ? I pretty like it. I've seen this movie.
anyway it's more violent and bloody than s***cking Punisher 2004.

That's why its utter crap.

They traded story and character development for mindless blood and gore.

That franchise NEEDS to go back to marvel.

Eh. Opinions, opinions. I thought the new version was more entertaining in spite of the lack of story. A movie can have a great story and still be terribly boring.

Not the forum for this though. Just thought the mention was a little on the random side so I had to jump on it since people are always quick to bash the movie.

Cool. It's surprising to find all these comic book junkies coming out of the closet.

Approached to be Stryker, chooses to do Sabertooth? That's interesting.

Since the comics have portrayed BOTH extremes of the Creed character, it really boils to which interpretation of Creed do you mostly identify with.

Yeah. In the comics you could pick some where Sabes fits more the wild animal with long hair and bad hygiene, or to a lot of other comics where he has a close hair cut like Schreiber does, and seems a whole lot more cunning along with his animalistic qualities.

<thinks back on the "Logan files" arc from the WV comic books>

Punisher War Zone, on the level, was a pretty bad movie, but it was good enough to keep me entertained throughout the madness.. :p

Oh, I just had to say this but I really have no issues with Hugh Jackman's calves. They look fine to me.
