I wish I could say I am happy about this announcement, but I am not. I think there could be worse choices, but also better. From all the manips I have seen of Cavill, I haven't been sold.
Because Superman is my favorite character, I will do my best to keep an open mind. But the American in me is a bit disappointed that Superman, while not born on this planet but raised as an American, will not be played by an American this time. Add to that that Batman and Spider-Man are also played by non-Americans, and that makes three of the biggest American heroes ever being played by non-Americans. A bit disparaging, but I will survive.
You know, this is really weird for me. Cavill was my front-running choice back in the Original Casting Wars. Then, after Superman Returns came out, I didn't want to see Routh go, surprisingly, as I was skeptical of his casting from the outset. It's really bittersweet, but like one of the posters above said: At least it's not Welling. This is one hell of a Sunday wake-up! And now we can get down to the real business: SUIT PICS!!!
I support him now..I just hope he bulks up some, but it wouldnt take much. I personally feel like Fans got him more notice, no doubt the manips helped.I personally don't think so. According to Deadline there were candidates presented to him and Robinov made the call, but he was the favorite of Nolan, Snyder and company.
Who knows though, maybe they looked at the forums and the manips and said, "Yeah, this guy will work." You never know. I am not going to doubt anything at this point, nor am I going to say anything is impossible. For all we know they had some of those manips up in their offices.
He's WB's guy now, and they believe in him, so I feel like we should to
Show, do you have any info on when we will hear some more casting news??
just thinking about him in the costume makes me giddy...
...and this is just a manip. wait until Snyder uses his keen eye for visuals to produce something with this kind of quality...

I hope Superman doesn't look that fake. Sucker Punch can get away looking like a video game as the world in that film is in her mind, but if Metropolis looks like that, I will be disappointed. Cause it looks like a computer.
Wow I am completely shocked by this news!! I never thought in a million years they would be casting Henry Cavill in the role of Superman, based on what I had been told in the past and other circumstances that they once and no longer care about.
I have so much egg on my face, Texas could eat breakfast on it for a week.
Kudos to the Cavill fans who kept at championing his cause and stuck to their guns. You deserve the "I Told You So's" and I for one will allow you to throw them all over me and others, in a civil manner of course. I am going to sport a Henry Cavill avatar in honor of how wrong I was if somebody would be so kind to make me one.
I think he'll be fine in the role and I am just glad Superman has been cast. Cavill fans, enjoy this, you have earned every minute of it.
Well, in regards to the current "big three" ( Supes, Bats, and Spidey ), now being played by Brits, Superman does have a bit of leeway being an alien from another planet in that he wasn't born in America.
However, with that being said, I DON'T want the next Superman movie to downplay or dismiss the "American values" aspect of Superman like with the "all that stuff" line in SR.
They don't have to shove it in our face, but Superman, despite being from another planet, and now being played by a Brit, WAS RAISED WITH MIDWESTERN, AMERICAN VALUES.
so, Superman's character should reflect that..........
