I've kinda wondered with JJ and his love for secrecy if he's kinda pushing Disney to keep quiet about things? I'm kinda thinking with something huge like Star Wars they will want to market the hell out of it. But I wonder if JJ wants to keep some of it secret? Will we get extensive virals like we have with other JJ films?

I think JJ will keep certain things under wraps, but probably not as extreme as he has in the past.

The "episode (blank)" in the film title was really a lucas thing even though it made for some arguably longer than needed sounding titles i.e "Star Wars: Episode 2: Attack of the Clones".

Do you think this film will be dubbed with an "episode" on the banner or disney might just cut to the chase and call it something like "Star Wars: Revolution" or whatever (just throwing it out there)?

I've thought about this. It's a small hope of mine that they do what they did with the OT. The posters had Star Wars in small letters above and bellow, but the main title was the title of the film. I'd again like it to be "A New Beginning" (not that name) but just known as it's title. Not Episode VII. With the PT most just say Episode whatever. With the OT most still say Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. I would like to see that back.

Like this (my favorite poster):

EDIT: And I agree Sawyer, I think they will not be as secretive, I just don't see them letting him go that far.

Yeah, the prequels are really the only ones where the Episode number come into play. I mean, how often do you hear someone refer to Empire Strikes Back as Episode V?

Yeah although all the original trilogy films were retconned by Lucas to have that episodes pre-fix attached.

So technically it is "Star Wars:Episode V: The Empire Strike Back" as the official film title. I just wonder if disney's gonna scrap that?

Oh piss off reps. Why do you always have to ruin everything?

Well no the only one that did not have Episode on it was the 1977 prints of Star Wars until 1981. After that they changed it to Episode IV A New Hope in the opening scroll. In 1980 with ESB the opening crawl always said Episode V: The Empire Stirkes back ect.

That's fine. But I'm talking the posters. Have it on the opening crawl but that's it. Later with the PT they became more known for their episode numbers.

Now? All the time, sadly. To me, the movies are:

Star Wars
Empire
Jedi

But the episode nomenclature forces people to acknowledge both trilogies as 'one saga'.

Not in real life though. Everyone I know calls 'Empire' and 'Jedi' by their their proper titles. Actually, the same people call the prequels by the 'Episode' numbers, funny enough.

Ya that's what I've seen. Even myself I refer to the OT by name and the PT by their episode numbers. On forums I usually for the OT I admit I will say ANH instead of Star Wars, but then ESB/ROTJ. And usually talking with my friends we just say Empire or Jedi sometimes Wars for the original.

Lucas:
Asked whether members of the original Star Wars cast will appear in Episode VII and if he called them before the deal closed to keep them informed, Lucas says, “We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation. So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.’ ” He pauses. “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then he adds: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”

LOL Lucas just says it. Well that's that then, they are all three in it. Sounds like he's a little angry lol. "Woopee-dee do".

You get a sense of anger out of that? lol

I was coming here to post that, but u guys beat me to it. Crossing my fingers that it's a storyline that does justice to these characters that i love so much :woot:

This is not his stuff anymore, and I see it as a tad disrespectful to what JJ and Kathy want to do in terms of announcing stuff. Is he going to just spurt out story tidbits next? I know he hated when things got out (I remember the outrage when Episode II's script leaked). It sounds just condescending. Like ooo they wanted to do it their way but I'm going to spoil it.

Mind you I'm fine with hearing this news, it's just seems disrespectful to the people that are now helming it, and making the decisions.

Lucas probably wouldn't have thrown some type of parade for them. I think thats where he's getting at. I don't remember them ever making a big deal about casting announcements for the PT. Of course, the movie landscape has changed since then.

They have...and really he did. I remember when they would announce the title's of the PT it was a big deal. They would have the logo, and I remember with AOTC they made a bigger deal out of it. A lot of their things had huge events, their trailers ect. I remember buying TPM on DVD was a huge deal because it unlocked the "Breathing" trailer for AOTC. I mean this is big news. The iconic figures of Star Wars returning.

But ya it's changed, and it's just not his anymore. But I'm sure Kathy is yelling at him right now lol. This is some news I don't mind but it's no surprise. It seemed clear our original heroes would be coming back.

Pretty much. Which makes certain scoopers look silly because it doesn't take Bob Woodward to know that they were coming back. I never had any doubt about it.

Ya, it seemed clear. I woudl love to see when they offiicaly announce it to have the three of them in costumes they will wear in Ep VII for a promo shot. Doubt it would happen but it would be cool. I would love to see Mark wielding a lightsaber again, and Harrison doing the ultimate pose.

While its not his anymore he is still apart of the process...he is a consultant after all...I think this was more in the lines that he said something he wasnt supposed to and then tried to take it back.

maybe Disney is waiting to announce it at some big event like Comicon or their Disney convention or Star Wars Celebration.

Yes. So? He is a consultant, not the decider of business tactics. And maybe so. But the point is it's really not his anymore. He will always be seen as the creator, and "a consultant if they want it" as he put it. But ya, he maybe regretted saying that pretty quickly. I'm sure Kathy was not happy about it. But the mouse calls those decisions anymore and I'm sure he will have to be careful in the future.

"Yes George?"

"Yeah about these announcements. Lets not make a big deal about it. I mean, lets just make this a small thing. What do you think?"

"That's nice George. I'll take that into consideration. Have to go, I have an important call."
