From Geoff John's Twitter page:

Have Bruce Timm, James Tucker and/or Geoff Johns finally convinced the Warner Brothers team? What could it be we will receive? adaptation of Geoff John's Aquaman comic? Adaptation of the Justice League: Throne of Atlantis event? (It has Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman to ensure sales) or dare i suggest we might finally receive Adam Green's Aquaman Horror movie?
Adam -- Right, so I went in on a general meeting with the D.C. guys and they mentioned how they are going to be making a new slate of animated movies about their characters, And I mentioned this storyline that I had for a cool Aquaman movie that was really scary and dark. And then they asked me to come back and tell them the full story. So I did. And they literally bought it in the room -- and since summer, I have been working on writing this animated Aquaman movie -- tentatively called AQUAMAN: HERO OF ATLANTIS.

Scott -- Between Entourage and that failed TV pilot, the poor guy has had a bad run lately. But I always liked him on Super Friends.

Adam -- My film actually pits Aquaman and Ocean Master TOGETHER fighting against THE KORDAX (a giant Kraken-like / Cloverfield-like monster). It's PG-13 so they are letting me get away with a lot more than what you would normally get in a Justice League animated feature.

Scott -- WB and DC has done a few of these already for Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman ...So this will be a series of DVD movies, one for each major chartacer?

Adam-- Pretty much. I am not 100% sure how many other characters they are doing. Aquaman doesn't go into production til next year and it takes a YEAR to make. So it won't be done til 2011 or maybe even 2012.

Scott -- So did they ask you to pick which heroes you like? Or did they say "Hey, you like Aquaman?"

Adam -- They asked me, and I offered up Aquaman because of this specific story I had in mind.

Bottomline:

*Raj voice* Aquaman? he sucks :hehe:

It'll be based on Geoff Johns' Aquaman run. Calling it now

Hmm... its all starting to add up.

For one thing, we know through Comic-Con that there will now be some continuity running through these releases thanks to Warner Bros. reqesting it.

They may have purposely left Aquaman out of JL: War in order to give him a grand entrance in the next 'in continuity' JL tale Throne of Atlantis (or whatever dull title the home video people give it).

Plus I've noticed a very interesting tweet from Jason O' Mara which hints to me that he could be voicing Batman frequently in the near future. Some fan tweeted him about Kevin Conroy getting more than 20 years out of the gig and O'Mara replied...

I love that you get a kick out of this. Kevin Conroy was excellent and v hard to follow. I'll just enjoy it while it lasts!

More JL movies? Perhaps the first one from 2015 that they are currently recording? A complete Justice League TV Show based on the New 52?

They won't do a solo Aquaman story... they need the sales and he simply hasn't got the pull. I'm betting on Throne of Atlantis.

It's about flippin' time, been an Aquaman fan for along time and he gets a lot of crap from people, but he is an awesome character and has very good villains, this is long over due, IMHO.

I'll take "Throne of Atlantis" over "Hero of Atlantis" any day of the week.

I'm just glad it's not a direct adaption. At least it doesn't seem like it is. This could be decent.

Aquaman is a great character when handled properly. I love Super Friends but now as an adult and I read comic books, I resented the Super Friends version, because the character has always been made fun off except in comic books. He lost his hand and that harpoon was so bad ass. When he began participating again in JLA (that was when Morrison worked on it) I love seeing him interact with Wonder Woman and Batman. He was such interesting character, he was arrogant but at the same time heroic. Then came the Superman Adventures (Bruce Timm) and holy crap, the moment that I saw the first episode with him and Superman it was ok, but the next time I saw him he resemble his comic book counter part with the arrogance and hook!

The last interpretation was Batman Brave and Bold, and the just crapped all over the character cause if he wasn't made fun off enough before now he was a complete joke. I was really upset, cause Batman has maintained the same "Dark Knight Attitude" since Batman Animated Adventures, but Aquaman has been dragged for so long. The character deserves a proper introduction, just like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern.

It's pretty awesome. I love it. I'd say it's the best run aquaman as ever had. It's well written and puts to bed alot of the jokes aquaman gets.

Will this help a possible live action version, or can we now rule out the latter completely?

No he doesn't. He only has two villains who aren't horrible which are Black Manta and Ocean Master. Much like the Flash, Aquaman really suffers from a lack of memorable enemies. And even Flash has Professor Zoom, Captain Cold and Mirror Master. Don't get me wrong, I REALLY like Black Manta but Aquaman is limited in the villains department.

In other words you can give him one villain per movie instead of shoe horning a pantheon of baddies in a single film

oh my god yes!!! finallly!!!! This is going to change all the ignorant people's minds about Aquaman

Hopefully they use the Peter David stuff.

When he looks like a Frank Frazetta character, I think people are more inclined to take him seriously.

It'll be a loose Throne of Atlantis adaptation... with the same cast from Justice League: War.

Still is no excuse to cut his character from War, unless the film he is in is a sequel, and the character of Shazam really shouldn't be there, he Basically serves the same purpose as Superman.

I hope not

Happy Aquaman's getting his own movie, even though most of the JL will be present.

Still its no excuse as to why Shazam is there. He serves no purpose, and lessens the diversity. Now we have three flying bricks with jet black hair. If they wanted a "magicesque" person and someone to befriend Cyborg, then I don't see why Zatanna wasn't chosen.

Yeah that was a dumb choice to add him to the team. I like the character, but I think he works best alone, I don't like him being on the Justice League, he's too similar to Superman.
