Extant - Coming to CBS Summer 2014

CBS’ Extant is readying some of its cast for blastoff.

Due in part to a shift in storyline focus for Season 2 – in which Halle Berry’s Molly will search for her alien offspring — original players Goran Visnjic and Camryn Manheim will only return for a couple episodes, our sister site Deadline reports, while Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O’Neill won’t return at all.

So, who’s definitely on board for Season 2 of the of the summertime drama? In addition to series lead Berry, Pierce Gagnon (who plays Molly’s android son Ethan) and Grace Gummer (Humanichs partner Julie Gelineau) will return as series regulars, while a few new roles have yet to be cast.

Extant premiered in July to 9.6 million viewers and a 1.6 rating, but by its Sept. 17 finale had slipped to 5.4 mil/1.0. TVLine readers gave the season as a whole a grade of “C+.” It, along with Under the Dome, was granted a renewal in early October.

Color me surprised, I thought the show got decent ratings but looked expensive as hell to produce, I figured it was toast

Just saw this today(I had it on PVR) and all I have to say is wow they really revamped the show. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing, but given all the cast changes it seems like a completely new show almost

An ok premiere.
Glad that they get rid of the husband in favor of J.D.Morgan.
I like what they did with Julia.
And again, this child actor playing Ethan is good, very good.

Totally forgot this was coming back.

I see J.D. Morgan's wife has also joined the series according to the previews.

Decent return. I like the new changes so far. Can't go wrong with JDM.

I stopped watching halfway through the first season but so far this season has been pretty good.

This season I don't know if I want to keep watching it or not. They threw a real curve ball with handling the "invasion" aspect and living up to predictable characters doing predictable things.

The stuff with Molly and her son in the 3rd episode was some of the laziest convenience writing I've seen on any show. I do like the dynamic between Molly and Richter though, Jefferey Dean Morgan is a good addition to the cast.

An ok finale, story lines were wrapped up.
I wonder if there will be a 3rd season.
Best kid actor in a TV show since a long time.

It was a mostly decent finale. Minus the dangling teaser for another season they ended the series without a cliffhanger which always gets bonus points from me. If this is the end of the series it could have been so disappointing but it wasn't.

it was a pretty good finale, with a nice amount of tension and suspense... this season was a bit better than the first, I thought... and now with TAALR downloaded into a Humanich, I want to see a third season... hope it happens...

I liked the finale. It's kinda like the S1 finale where it could work as a series finale minus the cliffhanger at the end. Was this renewed?

And yes, I agree... That kid playing Ethan is one of the few great child actors on TV right now. I love how well he transitioned from creepy in S1 to a cutie in S2.

The kid is better than the one on The Strain.

They went full Terminator in the finale

not yet... there's a possibility that it might not, but I hope it doesn't turn out that way... fingers crossed...

I admit I wasn't watching the last few eps closely, was the guy at the end in the trench and fedora meant to be Molly's dead hubby?

it was TAALR, the sentient computer behind the plan to wipe out the humans and hybrids and have the humanichs the dominant intelligence on Earth... as it's plans all fell apart in the season finale, it escaped and somehow downloaded itself into a humanich body...

TAALR had an emergency backup humanich body in the wings (ala Skynet) to escape in should things go awry, which of course they did. So now we're left with the most dangerous threat in the world free and currently unknown to exist.

Assuming they get a third season presumably it will revolve around TAALR rebuilding his army of humanich's and trying to wipe out the humans and hybrids. I don't know where else they could take the series. They already settled the human/hybrid issue, all but TAALR and Ethan are left of the humanich's so there isn't much else to do.

Though I do suspect that TAALR's human face is Molly's dead husband because they kept the reveal a secret.
