Paramount Pictures developing Sonic the Hedgehog movie

Do the kids have school Presidents day? That could be a factor.

What I wrote a week ago on another thread.

I’m going to laugh my ass off if Sonic The Hedgehog ends up doing better at the box office than Birds Of Prey. :funny:
Me right now:

‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Box Office Could Run Up To $55 Million In Debut – Deadline

UPDATED, Saturday AM final: After a string of pricey duds with Gemini Man, Terminator: Dark Fate, and Rhythm Section, Paramount gets back on track with its net $87M production of Sonic the Hedgehog. The film could potentially score the best video game feature adaptation debut of all-time, with a 3-day of $53.99M and 4-day of $64.3M, according to industry estimates this morning.

Anything over $54.3M in 3-days beats the previous record set by Legendary/Warner Bros.’ Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. On a 4-day basis, Sonic does beat Detective Pikachu as the best start for a video game feature, the former pic earning $58M over a non-holiday period last May. Paramount is seeing on their end a $50M 3-day and $60M 4-day for Sonic which is still great.

Man someone last week tweeted that anyone who thought Sonic would sniff close to $70mil was on serious drugs is probably tweaking out right now.

Couldnt be happier to hear this movie defied the odds. Havent seen it yet but will this week. It seems like the director actually gave a s*** about the character and (maybe too much) what the fans think so I’m glad he and everyone involved are getting rewarded.

The blue comet is sailing high at the speed of light to become a Box office Blockbuster in the month of February. This a huge achievement for Sega Genesis, For the creative team of Sonic the hedgehog and everyone involved in this project. Paramount pictures Mighty have stuck pure solid gold in this blooming franchise and the best part is it shows that if the director and team are willing to be faithful to the source material it pays off big Time. Congratulations and it's a monumental year for Sonic inc. Since its approaching his 30th Anniversary.

Same here.

That it may beat Pokémon’s opening is pretty huge.

Don’t ever underestimate the 1-2 punch of 90s nostalgia Sonic + wacky Jim Carrey!
Which is also 90s nostalgia too.

I'm not seeing the next film unless it's Sonic Origins: Crazy Carl.

Man what a comeback story this movie is. It just one year it went from being a complete joke to a certified BO hit and I have to give mad props to the director and Paramount for doing what more studios should do and that's actually listening to the fans. Not saying they should always do it, but in cases like this where all they needed to do was change the character design you can see how much the fans are willing to reward you as long as you listen.

It also doesn't hurt that movie is actually pretty damn good time and a lot better than I was ever expecting. Seriously, I had a really good time with it even though I can see how kids would probably love it more. Loved 90's vintage Jim Carrey in this and Sonic's scenes were well done, especially when it came to the action sequences. Also, both of those after credits scenes were gold IMO, and now I can't wait for the sequel.
