News broke a few days ago, but I figure it deserves its own thread.

Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy confirmed on Thursday that they have commenced development on a sequel to the live-action family comedy. The sequel would reteam the filmmakers, with Jeff Fowler directing, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the script.

The movie is still in the development stage so decisions have not been made yet regarding casting or a production start date.

‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Sequel in the Works – Variety

The film is still early in development, so no final release date at the moment, but if Robotnik's monologue at the end of the first film is any indication, we could see the sequel coming out during the holiday season.

So are you excited? What do you guys want to see in the sequel?

I think Knuckles is a given at this point.

I'd love to see a cameo by Tikal. And more references to the games, maybe a scene where Sonic & Tom visit a casino, (Casino Night Zone) or the final battle taking place in a industrial factory called Chemical Plant.

Just do it Paramount.

Go full Fast on the Sonic franchise.

LOL.

One thing I would like to see in the sequel is more of Tom in his police car wearing his actual sheriff's uniform. Idk why, but it's something I wished we saw more of in the first film. Those scenes with Sonic in a truck might have been a little more interesting if it was a cop car instead.

Sonic: Oooh! Can I flash the siren?

Tom: No. That's--

(Siren flashes)

Tom: Hey stop--

(Sonic picks up walkie talkie)

Sonic: This is Officer Sonic. Got a perp going over the speed limit. Requesting backup.

Tom: WOULD YOU STOP!?

It would've been cool to see Tom shoot down some of Eggman's drones with a police rifle too. Make him involved with the fights and more than just 'obligatory human character'

Or Sonic making small talk with a criminal in the backseat while wearing an officer's cap. That could've been funny.

But yeah, given the current stuff going on in the news right now, I could see Paramount wanting to dial down the whole cop angle.

Oh man, I'd lose it if we ever got a Team Dark spinoff..

Tom Hiddleston as Shadow please.

Zoe Seldana as Rouge.

Vin Diesel as E-123.

I really enjoyed the first one. It wasn't amazing or anything but it was just fun.

I am not really familiar with any of the lore created past S&K and I don't much care for any of the extended roster so I'd like to see something that uses the original Mega Drive games as a basis for the sequel(s).. A search for the Chaos Emeralds, Robotnik building the Death Egg and using animals to power his robot army (Scratch and Grounder!). The Death Egg crashing in a new world where Robotnik dupes Knuckles in to thinking Sonic is the bad guy ending with Knuckles' redemption as he realises Robotnik is trying to steal the Master Emerald. Throw in some Metal Sonic and Super Sonic action and I think it could be really good!

I think a search for Chaos emeralds would be a good way to showcase different zones/worlds and I'd definitely like to see more musical cues from the original games.

But based on there being a tribe of Echidna hunting Sonic in the first one and Tails' statement from the end credits, something tells me they're going down a different route story wise... I just hope we're not going to get some sort of 'Sonic is a god' ("Super Sonic") or 'part of a prophecy' nonsense

Well we don't why Tails was looking for Sonic in the after credits scene. It could have something to do with the Chaos Emeralds or Knuckles.

They left that pretty open so could go either way.

Kinda a serious question thought: with the way the political landscape is right now...does Tom end up staying as a cop in the sequel or does he get a new job?

Time to cancel all movies with cops as the leads and all cop TV show procedurals.

In the sequel, have Tom quit sheriff's department offscreen, and now he can be a prosecuting ACLU attorney or civil rights activist.

To be perfectly honest, I'd be fine if Tom never even shows up in the sequel and the movie just starts with Tails grabbing Sonic and hopping dimensions with him.

Can I just say something guys? I know everything sort of sucks right now. You turn on the news its depressing. The stories of injustice or the examples of police brutality or ruining peaceful protests are depressing. Or seeing the rioting and looting is also depressing. The state with the pandemic is depressing. I feel it. My anxiety is at an all time high.

At the same time, movies and TV shows are FICTIONAL entertainment. They are make believe. They are art. Art can reflect social issues going on in the world and that's fine. But they can also be the opposite. But movies and TV shows can be entertainment for the masses. Art does not have an obligation to righteously moral or even educate. I know good art can inspire and uplift cultures, and that's also fine.

Like I saw the Washington Post write an article calling for a cancellation to all TV police procedurals. Really? Why? Because they are unrealistic depictions?

God forbid I watch a TV show or movie that's unrealistic or not a gritty, realistic depiction of the real world. Guess what guys, Captain America and Iron Man aren't going to sweep in and save us from the injustices of the world or quell international conflicts. James Bond isn't overseas saving the day and getting the girl and drinking martinis. The Reagan family isn't having moral debates about the right way to police during Sunday dinners.

So I ask all of you:

Does the fact that Marsden's character is a sheriff in Sonic the Hedgehog hurt the movie for you? Even in hindsight right now? The fact that Marsden is a smalltown sheriff who wants to move to the big city to be an SFPD police officer, does that kill the movie for anyone here? Be honest. I want to hear from you.

Sidebar, but I was just thinking (and if they could afford him), Tom Holland would be PERFECT as Tails.

No

He'd be the perfect Charmy.

but yeah Marsden's sticking around. And while I have no issue with him being a small town cop, ive already seen some people raise a stick. Honesty have no clue if Paramount gives five ****s or not.

THOUGH if they DO decide to change his career...they could recruit him into GUN which would be a nice little bit of world building/foreshadowing...

Not to put too fine a point on it but if anyone has an issue with Marsden's character being a cop in a Sonic movie they need to have a long hard look at themselves in the mirror.

Tom being a cop doesn't bother me, but I bet right now Paramount is nervous about going forward with a movie where the lead is a white cop. I wouldn't be surprised if Tom quits his job in the sequel (or is kidnapped by Robotnik and offscreen for 90% of the film)

Well not only that but he is a white cop married to a black woman, so it's not like he is rascist in any way.

I've just thought of arguably the greatest (or worst) cameo imaginable for the sequel.

Assuming we're going to Sonic's world in the sequel, and assuming were going to see some stock characters roaming about. What if in Tom's bewilderment at all these talking animal people, he bumps into one.

We then hear in a relatively familiar voice of "Watch where your walkin' Bub". Tom looks down and says sorry only to see an Anthropomorphic Wolverine glare at him.

Too much. Or pure Genius?
