The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

I think his height(King), is 5'8". That was what I could find. Don't think it would work.

Listing British actors, Leo Suter would I think be a better choice.

Corenswet [26] or Jacob Elordi [23] are the ones for the job of superman base on both of them will be more experienced in acting when hollywood decide to do another superman movie which probably will be in 2024 or 2025.
I would definitely take a scenario where we have Cavill for guest appearances in the Garcia produced films and Corenswet starring in the standalones.

This is where i'm at as well.

Corenswet is really the only option. It’s just too obvious.

I’ve talked a lot of **** on Cavill, but I go back and forth on him. I want him to get another chance. So much easier to just continue with him instead of start over. I want to see how he’d do with a more optimistic script.

I'm a fan of both.

Whether it's Cavill, Corenswet or someone else, the script is always the key. That's why I'm very interested in the creative team behind the eventual next Superman film and whether they'll provide the necessary material for Superman to shine.

Corenswet really represents a new, and fresh beginning, something the character of Superman so badly needs. He really just has that certain X factor, that certain je ne said quo, that we need moving forward. The only hope is that WB sees that as well, and decides to moe forward, and not backwards, again.

At this point, I think Cavill is more likely to reprise the role than Corenswet is to get it .

I wouldn't have said that a year ago, but things change.

Given that WB don't seem in a rush to get a new Superman film out, I think its more likely they'll stick with Cavill and work a deal out for appearances in already established in universe characters like Shazam, Flash, Black Adam, Aquaman, etc., than search for, and go with a new actor for a rebooted solo film which may be years off anyway.

That's what I suspect now , but then again, I'm reading tea leaves and things sound like they're in flux.

That said, I do like Corenswet as a rebooted Superman , and i'm all for Cavill sticking to team ups in Snyderverse films, while Corenswet gets his own closed universe solo trilogy of films ala Matt Reeves's Batman.

I'm for the cake and eat it too multiverse approach if that's what ends up happening.

I know not every fan is, but I am.

What about Sam Rockwell as Lex? Promise I had the idea before I googled him and saw he had a shaved head at the Golden Globes lol.

I do like flickchick’s idea of Tom Cruise more and more though, especially with it looking like MI:8 could be a capper for those films.

Bradley Cooper too, though not sure if he’s looking for another franchise. He’s got a great relationship with WB.

True. I do want charismatic, but not another Hackman/Eisenberg portrayal.

I'm not fond of Superman being relegated like he's MCU's Hulk. We're never going to get a Superman movie that really hits that isn't 40 freaking years old. The last truly popular Superman film pre-dates Crisis on Infinite Earth's....Christ, that's pathetic.

Great actor but he doesn’t seem to have that ability to be menacing imo.

Yeah, even in his brief cameos in The Politician season 2, the dude just SCREAMS Superman to me. I like Cavill too but sadly, the only time I feel has been great as Superman was in Man of Steel, and that film still had a lot of problems (the Caravan of Garbage episode they just did on it hit the nail on the head). Those issues weren’t Henry’s fault but sadly, it was like WB and Snyder learned the wrong lessons from the criticisms and just nuked Superman’s character in BvS. It’s a shame because I still DO believe Cavill could have been the defining Superman for a new generation had he been in more capable hands. But it is what it is.

If Coronswet wasn’t around (or Elordi, for that matter, who doesn’t look as much like Clark but is a VERY good actor from what I’ve seen), then maybe I’d be more open to continuing with Cavill. But as for now, I think it’s just best to move on. He has The Witcher (which I maintain that he’s good in, even if responses to his performance have been mixed) and other stuff like Enola Holmes to look forward to. He’ll be fine. But I think it’s time for someone else to don the red cape.

Also, I like the Sam Rockwell suggestion for Lex. He kinda played a Luthor-type in Iron Man 2 (underrated Marvel villain IMO), but that was a while ago. He might indeed make the character goofy but I feel he’s the type that could make that sort of thing work, unlike Eisenberg.

I agree with you, but I'm also extremely confident now that Cavill's not going anywhere and will be Superman again in multiple movies in the near future. My only hope now is that WB doesn't miss the window on Corenswet completely, because while I think Henry has a solid Superman in him with the right script/direction, I genuinely believe David could be a better Superman than Henry is even capable of on his best day. That's why I'm crossing my fingers that all this multiverse stuff means a reboot with a new Supes can still be in the cards within the next 4-5 years, even with Cavill sticking around.

Totally agree with you about both actors. And yeah, the good thing about Corenswet is that he could play Superman now or in 5 years and it could still work.

Just to throw my 2 cents into the discussion, I've seen his face somewhere, probably on these forums, but I've never actually heard of David Corenswet until just now so obviously I've no idea whether I think he's a good actor.

However just from a visual perspective, I think he certainly has all the facial traits you'd associate with Superman, the biggest issue he has or at least I have with him is probably the same sort of problem Henry Cavill had for his previous Superman auditions in that he just looks too young. I just Googled a picture of him here with some facial hair & he still looks like he's only about 20 and without it he looks even younger.

You honestly could probably recast Cavill now, or keep him, do a Superman trilogy spanning 10 years & if Corenswet's still in mix by 2030/2031 take a look at him then for the next-next reboot to see if he looks like he's at least 25.

Different strokes. When I first saw him in The Politician, I was shocked to learn how young he was, as I thought he already looked about 30. As I get older, 20-year-olds seem to look more and more like children to me, and that definitely ain't him, lol. David has an Old Hollywood look that makes him seem way older to me, idk. The voice and the way he carries himself certainly helps.

The voice and the way he carries himself definitely helps. You can age and de-age someone a little bit by how you dress and style them. The producers of Smallville used to say that about Tom Welling during the early seasons of Smallville when he was 24 or 25 and tried to make it seem like he was a high school kid. Hair and clothing can add and deduct 5 years visually. I've seen various images of Corenswet where he comes off various ages depending on the image. I see a mature presence on screen and that presence is key when they finally do put a Superman movie in production a few years from now.

Easily explained

God his suit is ****ing horrible. Hoechlin is a good Superman, and he’s obviously ripped, but he really exemplifies why it’s important for Superman to have broad shoulders. The dude is ripped but he looks small in the suit because he doesn’t have broad shoulders like Reeve, Routh, or Cavill.

I like it, the \S/ is the best on any Superman suit imo, however that’s not why I shared that image it was about the text.

Corenswet carries himself in a certain way because I think he may be a trained dancer. Friends of mine who were professional dancers said they could always tell on screen another trained dancer, especially James Cagney. The training has them move a certain way, walking, and going up and down stairs, same I believe with Corenswet. There is a nice shot of him on his instagram page, doing moves from West Side Story.

We could use a cheery up beat Superman movie at this time, and Corenswet and his personality, as well as look fit perfectly, almost like Chris Reeve. Too bad it seems Warner's may screw it up by putting off that kind of movie in a reasonable time. Still holding out hope, Abrams weirdly may be that hope, you don't pay a guy that much money and not let him do what he wants.
