The Good Citizens of Metropolis: The Casting Thread

Good God... so we could have had Keri Russell or Claire Danes as Lois Lane but we ended up with Bosworth? Ugh. Although the characterization of Lois in SR was so awful that I doubt even those actresses could have saved it.

I remember all of those false starts for Superman back then. Flyby had a ton of problems, as did that BvS script. But probably either of them would have been more interesting than SR or the BvS that we got.

Thats one of the main issues with Returns, even the best actor probably couldn’t have saved the Lois role because it was poorly written. Although I do think Bosworth gave for instantly dislikable vibes, which I think she does in interviews too.

I think we’d have actually been better off with Flyby. Even just from the cast McG was on the verge of confirming castings Cavill was Supes, Scarlett Johansson was Lois, Downey Jr was Lex, Anthony Hopkins as Jor El (who was a leftover from Ratner’s castings) and Shia LeBeouff was Jimmy Olsen.

I want to believe this movie got made in some alternate universe, where a few years later, Marvel debuted the MCU with Antje Traue as Black Widow, Michael Shannon as Tony Stark and recycled footage of Marlon Brando as Odin.

It's maybe interesting how much Nolan and Snyder also liked the idea of focusing on the internal conflict/civil war on Krypton as important to the whole story, although not taking it as far as to be ongoing as Flyby would have.

Antje Traue would have been a far superior Black Widow though

Idgaf if this is the place for it anymore, you’re all getting it...

Matt Damon as Jonathan Kent
Elizabeth Mitchell as Martha Kent
Adrien Brody as Jor-El
Isla Fisher as Lara El

If Damon's gonna be in it, I'd rather it be as Lex than Pa Kent.

Damon is still too boyish for Pa Kent, even as he grows older.
I wanted a different type of Jonathan Kent. I think he looks more blue collar, but more softer blue collar. I think he could be raggedy uped for the role.

Yeah I could see Damon as Lex. But not as Pa Kent.

Also, I’ve been rewatching Black Sails during the quarantine and hot damn, Toby Stephens would make a badass Lex Luthor.

I’m still hoping against hope that Tom Cruise loses his superhero movie virginity playing Lex Luthor. Would be brilliant.

If that happens, then Cruise should look to his real-life supervillain BFF David Miscavige for inspiration.

Funny because I finally watched Collateral in it's entirety and I can see it...

I'm crazy. I saw this post yesterday and when I read Matt Damon, I pictured Matt Bomer. I was judging you in my head on and off for hours. :funny:
