The Rise of Skywalker Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker (IX)

Has anybody seen him comment on TRoS at all? After TFA and TLJ he was everywhere, barely a peep this time, it seems.

I doubt Disney wanted him saying anything after he spent several years moaning about no role in 7 and not liking his role in 8. I'm not sure I'd go so far to say they put a gag order on him, honestly it seems like most of the cast were pretty checked out by the time this film released. Nobody wants to talk about it anymore.

Can you blame them.

Even Daisy was relieved to have Luke back.

I think Mark was sensational in TLJ, along with Adam Driver he deserved an Oscar nomination.

I cant. The Star Wars fanbase is the worst fansbase I've ever seen in my entire life and i don't blame any of them for wanting to put it behind them.
With great sadness I have to agree with you. Stupidly, as I didn't get onto social media until years past the PT, I didn't realize how toxic the fan base has become.
We all have different opinions, but some people get slaughtered online simply because their tastes are different. It doesn't help that on some forums even the mods can be unpleasant. I won't apologize for what I like and dislike, but I have chosen not to engage the more 'intense' posters. I've learned from my mistakes.

Considering the Colonel Kurtz reference, Lucas probably would have hurt some feelings too.

Given the inspiration for his arc was Colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now, I am betting it was very similar. If not the same.

Colonel Kurtz would imply he was going to make Luke a full-on villain. Johnson did not do that, but it was something that was heavily theorized in the lead-up to VII and after. Luke's absence in TFA needed to be answered and Luke going dark was a popular idea.

If anything, I would have just introduced Mara Jade as a canon character and establish that Luke had married her in the interim years between the two trilogies.

It would have been later revealed that Ben was responsible for her death during his descent to the dark side, hence why Luke felt nearly motivated to kill him in revenge during a moment of weakness.
