Wonder Woman 1984 General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

WW3: War in Themyscira. The Paradise Island segments of both movies have been the strongest elements of those films. Its time to go all in and get Diana back to her roots and make her Amazonian family central to the plot. They need to go big in this movie and bring in more of the mythological Gods for a big conflict with the Amazons.

I want to see this version of Themyscira on screen

How long has she now been saying that Kennedy is about to get fired? Just recently she also started a rumor that Pedro Pascal walked off the set of The Mandalorian because he was unhappy due to not getting enough screen time and that Djarin was written out of the show after the first half of S2. All bull****. Oh yeah and according to Cathy Yan all the rumors started by Randolph regarding Yan's original cut of Birds of Prey are complete fiction. Grace Randolph is most of the time completely full of ****.
There are issues with the Mandalorian. Why else would Baby Yoda go with Luke and Bobby Fett now has his show in the Mando time slot. Every YouTuber said Kennedy was stepping down. Grace never said she was getting fired. It’s funny how you bring up three subjects that every one has questions about but you leave out all the things she got right about Marvel, DC and Star Wars. That’s ok man, let’s get back to Wonder Woman 1984.
Is that like when she implied the Snyder Cut wasnt happening because the trailer was off Youtube for a bit over a rights issue? There are people on this board I trust more than her and I am not talk about the people here who have sources I am talking fans. She is full of it...basically a female John Campea.
You can find rumors she is wrong about but she has been spot on with her DC, Marvel and Star Wars news. She said in the Spring Wonder Woman was going to HBO Max. Marvel
I don't see how second week is relevant anymore when most Cinemas are closed and people are watching this on HBO Max at home.

Grace Randolph is making no sense but that's not surprising.
I back THIC Grace for the most part but you are right on with this. Time Warner got what they wanted with HBO Max subscriptions. I saw the Variety article killing the low opening even though most movie theaters are closed. WB can’t win. The only movie company putting anything out.

Remember when people saw those behind the scenes photos of the Egypt scene and people thought they were going to introduce the Amazons of Bana-Mighdall? Good times.

Sigh. I know, right? I think most of us are on the same page that we want to see more of the Amazons, right? Thing is, I'm not entirely sure Patty's interests lie there. I think the Wonder Woman we saw in WW84 is the Wonder Woman Patty likes, the superhero, crime fighting, Lynda Carter-esque version. I don't see her putting Diana in a big scale mythological epic like a lot of us want.

True, but the general reaction by the public after all the drama about the theatrical cut and the call for a Snyder helmed cut factors in here and MORE than before when it was assumed that WW84 was going to be at least an Aquaman level financial hit.

But it doesnt matter. If everyone hates the film but watches it HBO Max wins. AT&T knows it and so does Zack. That is why Zack is also working with Netflix. People don't have to like the projects if they are watching them "for free". (yes I know it isnt free but still) It is like with my Stubs movie pass...I see films I have almost no interest in because I am not actually paying for it. (I pay the fee monthly no matter what) It allows me to try out stuff and not feel I am wasting money if I hate it.

Max won't collapse because of Snyders JL if it sucks and it won't become Disney+ if it is great. It is a no pressure project that gives content to Max which with these services is all that matters now.

I finally got it to work on my PS4. Wouldnt work on PS5, SamsungTV or laptops

Worked on Samsung Galaxy 10+, SamsungTV, Xfinity X1 deal, computer and Roku. (I use Max a lot)

Not surprising. I have no doubt Jenkins will finish this. But i’d be lying if i said my faith her isnt shaken after this. WW3 needs to be an epic grand slam of a movie.

I dunno that I believe that...seems like the press release studios put out when their movies is going to come in low on critic scores and then fall off a cliff the next week. I remember articles about Green Lantern 2 being green lit right away as well.

I dont doubt though she tucked her tail a bit and said she would play ball if they want her back. And they should want her back I think she will learn from her mistakes.

With streaming becoming the new craze I wouldn't mind it if they took WW off of the big screen and gave me a WW Games of Thrones style streaming show.

Well we know she’s interested in them because she wanted to do a whole spin-off with them. I think she loves that world, but that the stories she wants to tell with Diana specifically are about her relationship with our world. So a separate project seemed like the best way to tackle both of these aspects of the mythos she’s interested in.

I doubt there’s the same amount of pressure on Snyder as there was for Jenkins. If you didn’t like the theatrical cut of JL, I doubt the Synder cut will magically change your opinion.

In hindsight, the Snyder Cut wasn't going to be the Stranger Things or the Mandalorian for HBO Max. It can't be. It's just not financially feasible to do multiple seasons/sequels to Snyder's movies and the turnaround time would just be unrealistic. Were fans really going to hold on to their HBO max subscription for 2-3 years waiting for JL2 or MOS2? Even prior to the announcement that WB was going to release their 13-14 movies, nobody could answer questions on what was next after the Snyder Cut and what would be people's reason to stay in terms of original content.

At this point that is their only option. Ares is gone, Cheetah is gone, Max Lord shouldnt exist and is likely gone...and the only part universally liked from this film was the Amazons. Either they skip WW3 and do the Amazon film OR they need to have the Amazon War with perhaps the "New Contest" where Artemis shows up to challenge. Something, anything. 3 needs to be everything 84 wasnt. It needs action, suspense and actual scenes of Wonder Woman being Wonder Woman more than just a couple of times.

Hell have her attempt to try and return be how the Bana-Mighdall Amazons are able to invade. Something...ANYTHING! Have a story that leads somewhere and does something...not just the Adventures of Steve Trevor and His Love Sick Puppy.

I wouldn't say the Snyder cut is a no pressure project

Since WW84 came out, HBO Max has been at the top or near the top of the app charts for the first time. If we find out next month that WW84 brought in subs/activations in the millions, I'd imagine they'll be expecting more of the same considering they actually funded the thing

No but outside of some of the people in the Snyder Thread no one really thought it would be. Most understand it is likely a one off that is for the fans. Some of us hypothesized that if it is watched a lot it could lead to some spinoffs in that corner...but Zack wont be doing it and it wont be high priority, it will just be more stuff that will either get eyeballs or not.

Sooner or later all of these services are going to do crap like Netflix. I mean they give Adam Sandler how much money to make crap like Hubey Halloween or whatever it is called? That film would have bombed HARD in theaters but if even a fraction of people watch it on Netflix they consider it a win.

People will hold on to HBO Max for the same reason they do all of these services...laziness.

They wont care unless it can be linked to people cancelling. If the subs stay the same or go up even slightly its a win.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

If I see one report of Steve Trevor returning I...

While I've been saying that a 3rd film is guaranteed , I am concerned with such a quick announcement going forward given WB's past history with sequels.

The studio tends to have two speeds:

1) Be overly cautious , to the point that they miss crucial windows in exploiting IP's for films, which means they end up behind the 8 ball
or

2)Rush things and then dive head first into an empty swimming pool, then wonder why they end up in body cast.

I'm concerned WW3 is going to be more number 2 than number 1.

Apathy is many companies ways of making a lot of money.

I've held on to a few apps a little too long before cancelling it. I forgot I had Shudder for like a month then I just cancelled it. But maybe have to reup again to watch Creepshow specials that I missed. I'll keep using HBO Max because I have family watching it on cable it but they don't use the app. If I didn't I'd just have to really sign up and cancel subscription each movie for maximum like I did with Netflix in between original series that I wanted to watch.

Considering the racism complaints WW84 is getting, utilizing the Bana Amazons may not be...the most wise decision. At least how they are often depicted when they aren't being used by almost anyone other than Phil Jimenez. The "darker skinned Amazons are the villainous, savage man-hating ones" thing would definitely need to be tweaked.

As a final installment of a trilogy that hasn't used the Amazons too much, it may be better to focus just on the main Amazons in a conflict with Circe. Hopefully with Barbara returning as a wild card, so we can have two female villains instead of a male one with a female flunky (Ares and Dr. Poison; Max and Cheetah).

I think despite Patty's recent shade at the studio, I believe she has every intention of continuing this unless something goes horribly wrong with her relationship with WB in the next two years. I dont see WB ripping this from her hands. But with Rogue Squadron and Cleopatra....PAtty's going to have make some decisions soon because waiting until 2024-25 for a third sequel is way too long.

And that decision should be to axe Cleopatra ASAP, lol. The discourse over that movie is gonna be nothing but a nightmare for her over the next couple years, and she’ll be fighting an uphill battle for any kind of good reception with it, imo.

I see that they made sure to let it be known that it will be a normal traditional theatrical release

Well, the amount of fall could still be something the studio will take into account.

An extreme example (this won't happen): Imagine the second weekend of Wonder Woman falls below the second weekend of Tenet.
