Wonder Woman 1984 General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

I remember it well too. Mainly for the extreme hypocrisy that was going around at the time. Who can forget John Campea's infamous "I don't want a 95 pound WW" Gal rant while he advocated for Jaimie Alexander to get the role? Picture below of Jaimie Alexander back in 2013 when Campea was crying about a 95 pound WW. Also loved it when people brought up Gal's lack of acting work while simultaneously picking another actress (Gina Carano) who didn't have much work and just 2 years prior had to have all of her dialog in Haywire dubbed over by another actress. Those were good times.

Well part of that was Campea was "friends" with Jaime and she convinced him she was secretly cast in BvS and knew the story. She strung him along with fake information from the "script" and he bought it so hard he went in the tank for her. He flat out said Gal had zero shot at the role and when she was cast his ego wouldn't let him admit he was wrong so he went full on misogynistic.

As for Carano I remember when she was a hot rumor...most of that was I believe that she was dating Henry Cavill at the time. She wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire as an actress at that point.

That's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it works out for them.

Yeah that doesn't seem wise. I mean "working on" can mean different things. so it isnt like she will go from studio to studio shooting every other day but still that is a lot of pressure and she will definitely be mentally fatigued.

That said I still think Cleopatra gets sidelined.

‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Box Office Fall 67% In Weekend 2 As HBO Max Glitches Continue – Deadline

While Warner is banging the drum on the global cume, now at $118.5M, which, let’s face it, would be significantly higher had the studio waited this tentpole out to a healthier time in the marketplace, box office analysts believe the Patty Jenkins movie will fizzle at around $40M in a domestic marketplace where 60% of all 5.5K theaters are closed. Warner’s Tenet, with the No. 2 chain Regal open during the majority of that pic’s run, halted at $57.9M. A reminder that with fewer box office DMAs open, the majors are also holding on their usual tentpole marketing spend.

While it’s already been reported that critics soured greatly on the movie, dropping their Rotten Tomatoes score from 89% certified fresh on Dec. 16 to a current 60% fresh, so has audience reaction as well (i.e. current B+ for sequel versus first pic’s A). Social Media analyst RelishMix noticed that the DC sequel’s recent social media chatter ranked a 4.5 out of 10 in its conversation meter.

“Convo before release was exceptional in tracking for the next chapter. But since opening, chatter is wildly mixed, with questions about the exception powers of ‘The Dreamstone’, the re-birth of Chris Pine’s character, to Kristen Wiig’s transformation. Review spots drill deeper about the pace of the storyline, as well as Wonder Woman moments throughout the film. Fans are hoping for a 2021 return to the big screen with popcorn, ASAP,” reports RelishMix.

I’m gonna “play devil’s advocate” and put myself in Jenkins’ mind and mind you, i dont agree with it but i think Patty’s line of thinking was “simply having Steve reappear is too easy and too expected. Everyone’s going to be expecting that. I need to throw in some kind of unique twist, something that the fans wouldnt expect or speculate about online. Body swap. Yeah no one would expect that.”
That's absurd especially when you have a magical device that does anything. For crynight out loud the wall that appears in Egypt then disappeared into a river of water when the wish is reversed. Not to mention the explosion missiles that vanished into dust at the end when WORLD War 3 was about to happen. Sorry but their is absolutely no good justification for what was done to Steve Trevor.

I heard a theory that maybe the guy in the first draft of the script was dating Diana, but she wasn't feeling him, she's still hung up on Steve. So then later she wishes he was more like Steve, and presto-change-o, he gets the Steve Trevor body swap. That's slightly better, but still way too stupid and overly complicated for no reason at all.

You trade a life for a life to balance death's books, that's like one of the rules of magic. Hades doesn't give away his souls for free, that's how these things usually work.
Having said that, I would've done this thing where we see the Handsome Man's reflection in mirrors but Diana only sees her sweet beautiful Steve so she's unaware he's in another person's body

The movie does make it a point to show pause between Trevor and Diana regarding the fact that Trevor took over someone else's body. They were very aware of the implications. It was done intentionally. I really think people are over thinking it. The dream stone corrupts those that use it by taking away their most valuable possession. In Barbara's case it was her warmth and humanity she was already becoming a predator as a result, in Lord's case his health he lost any compassion he had as a result even for his own son, In Diana's case her power. Remember she is a demigod she is not human. Her losing her status as a god made her more human with human vulnerabilities. Diana the demigod who was able to avoid meaningful human interaction for decades prior may not sacrifice another life to get Steve Trevor back, But Diana who was corrupted by the dream stone to be just another mere mortal would. Just like everyone in the movie(humans) was willing to sacrifice what they shouldn't for their wish. I don't buy people's misunderstanding of this concept. Its pretty simple. I think people are intentionally over thinking it because its popular to nitpick at the movie right now. Creating false outrage over that story choice or getting upset about her rescuing Egyptian children(which btw eye roll). The Trevor possessing someone else's body thing works to me because it shows what Diana is willing to sacrifice as someone who is no longer a God but a human with all the problems and vulnerabilities that come with that.

And she still isn't.

Gal may not be the best actress in the world but she has more charisma, nuance and overall talent than Carano.

that is very debatable. i think we need to see Gal in other acting rolls to really get to the conclusion.

but the truth is she doesnt really need to be great. she is dong a good enough job. it doesnt need to light the world on fire and that is okay

Steve coming back in another body is something I'd expect test audiences not to like. Then again, maybe they didn't and WB just ignored them

Based on the leaks Patty ignored everything the test audiences told them.

Just wait for those deepfake attempts at replacing Gal's face with someone elses.

It's simply a matter of time, now.

I'd say Hell to the no to that suggestion.

Imagine all her exes who had to get over her. Yeah... probably didn't turn out to well for them..

Gal is safe, but they're certainly going for a different approach next time around.

With all of the outrage being directed at Patty these days, I am kind of surprised that Nobody has suggested that the inspiration for the body swap storyline came back in 2017, when Zack swapped bodies and directed the original WW film himself, AS PATTY!

Gonna be very interesting when the Snyder Cut comes out and we see a very different kind of Wonder Woman. Snyder’s Diana is much more warrior like and it will be interesting to compare and contrast that one vs this version of Diana.

Meh. No Wonder Woman portrayal is going to prevent that film from (likely) being garbage.
