Edge of Tomorrow - Part 1

I also thought he had become a better person. If he really only cared about the world because he lives on it he probably wouldn't have killed himself.

Yeah I thought the same, even after the girl dies, he still sacrifices himself to save the day, despite at that point thinking there was no way to bring FMB back.

I think that maybe some people felt like changing the ending from what it was in the book didn't work, maybe?
What was in the movie doesn't really work if you think about it.

Still out doing press rounds for “American Made,” film director Doug Liman recently sat down with Yahoo Movies to talk a little bit more about “Live Die Repeat and Repeat,” the upcoming sequel to the well-regarded sci-fi hit “Edge of Tomorrow”.
Liman has never done a sequel in his career and admits he was apprehensive about returning, but it was the strong fan support and the story idea come up with by Cruise that convinced him to come back:
“Normally there are financial decisions behind making a sequel, but with this, it was just about us coming up with a story. Really, it’s not a world I was eager to go back to, because dealing with time travel can make your head hurt. But there was so much affection from fans of the movie — more than any of my other movies! — that Tom and I felt that we owed it to ourselves to at least think about what a sequel could be.”
Liman says he’s a bigger fan of the story idea for the follow-up than he is the original film:
“It picks up where the last one left off, but then we go backwards in time. I love it way more than the story of the original film.”
“Live Die Repeat and Repeat” still doesn’t have a production schedule or release date yet set.

Liman Updates “Edge of Tomorrow” Sequel Status

Still doing press for “American Made,” filmmaker Doug Liman has offered an update on how the “Edge of Tomorrow” sequel is progressing.
Titled “Live, Die, Repeat, Repeat” the upcoming follow-up to the critically well-regard Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt-led sci-fi film grossed $370.5 million at the box office from a $180 million budget, but really took off when it hit home video as word of mouth spread.
The fanbase for the film grew so loud that Liman, Cruise, Blunt, and writer Christopher McQuarrie came together to hash out a second part that serves as both sequel and prequel. That project is in development and Liman tells Collider it’s now mostly a matter of scheduling:
“Tom and Emily [Blunt] and I are really excited to go do it. We have a script. We’re just trying to find a time to schedule it, between my schedule and Emily’s and Tom’s. But it’s one of these things where it’s a sequel whose origins come from the best possible place, which is, it’s not a studio saying, ‘Hey, we think we can make some more money. Let’s just stamp out another one.’
This sequel originated with fans of the original film who continually came up to Tom and myself and Emily and told us how much they loved the movie and would we ever consider a sequel. And enough people said that to me and to Tom and to Emily that we finally sat down and said, ‘What would a sequel even look like?’ We ended up with Chris McQuarrie coming up with a great story.”
Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse have penned the script under McQuarrie’s supervision. Liman just started shooting “Chaos Walking,” while Cruise and McQuarrie are finishing up “Mission: Impossible 6” with Cruise shooting the “Top Gun” sequel shortly. This suggests the earliest filming could begin is end of next year, more likely sometime in 2019.

Fans of “Edge of Tomorrow” (aka. “Live. Die. Repeat”) will be happy to hear today that the follow-up to Doug Liman’s 2014 sci-fi action film starring Tom Cruise is finally looking like a real possibility after years of rumors.
Speaking with Collider at the Television Critics Association press tour, Liman was on hand to promote the YouTube series “Impulse” and has revealed scheduling issues have already been worked out – all that’s left now is to finish the script:
“We’re just working on the script… [We’re no longer working on scheduling issues], now it’s down to we have a window where we could go do it, and we’re frantically working on the script. It’s one of those movies that we’ll only go make if we love the script. It’s not one of those things where the studio is pushing us to make it and they don’t really care if it’s good or not.
If the movie happens, it will be because Emily Blunt, Tom Cruise and myself are passionate about making it, which is a great place to be. She doesn’t need this movie, he doesn’t need this movie, and I don’t need it. We’re gonna make it if we really believe in it. We have a story that the three of us love, so we’re working hard on the script… It has the possibility of being my next film.”
Christopher McQuarrie came up with the idea for the sequel while writers Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse penned the actual screenplay. Scheduling was said to be the biggest issue, but with that worked out – we’ll hopefully see it sooner rather than later.
Liman is currently in post-production on the sci-fi young adult adaptation “Chaos Walking” starring Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland which opens in very early 2019.

'Edge of Tomorrow' Sequel in Development at Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. is developing a sequel to the Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt sci-fi movie and has brought aboard writer Matthew Robinson to develop the script, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Edge of Tomorrow filmmaker Doug Liman, Cruise and Blunt are expected to return, dependent on Robinson delivering a script they like. Robinson co-directed and co-wrote the 2009 Ricky Gervais comedy The Invention of Lying and was one of the screenwriters of the 2016 movie Monster Trucks.

Hasn't it been "in development" for a while now?

Strange though I was just thinking about this yesterday

It's been in some form of development or another for the last several years.

Let's be honest. The movie is fun, but the ending makes no sense. Writing a sequel is going to be difficult. There's no way they can figure it out.

It's better to leave it alone. Just let it be.

The sequel will probably get similar treatment to Skyline, in the sense that the revelation will be some connection to us being related too, or the reason for the alien invasion. :p

Sequel? I thought this was a prequel.
Honestly, just give me more of that Starship Troopers goodness.

So it’s just sequels for Tom Cruise’s immediate future?

Watched the first again recently and it’s still amazing, so I will always be on board for this sequel.

A sequel seems completely unnecessary, especially since Bill Paxton (played one of the best characters in that movie) passed away.

If Liman, McQuarrie, Cruise and Blunt are involved then I am in.
