Most of the comedy landed for me in Thor 3 while some scenes needed more time to sit before the next joke. Seems Taika went too comedic in this movie and it's a shame if so i wanted less of that with Gorr being featured

and minor nitpick i had for a while they should have kept eye patch Thor he looked savage in Thor 3 but i know Chris is too marketable for him to have an eye patch for a whole movie.

I'm confused. A score in the 70s, even low 70s, isn't what I'd call bad.

Eternals started in the 80s on Day 1 if I remember correctly.
With that start it's cleared for critics to shoot.

Do critics reviews matter? Because I am sure that there are plenty of movies that we love that have been critically panned. A lot of movies I love were critically panned as awful and terrible. I will be absolutely shocked if there's not a movie that any of you love that has been critically panned. So these reviews don't matter to me.
Of course not, but Disney/Marvel for years now have used and molded their movies around maximizing RT scores to market their films as a sign of quality, so it is interesting to see that come around on them now.

More good stuff. I was really looking forward to hear their thoughts because i felt that we where very much on the same page. He liked both Ragnarok and TLT about the same with a slight advantage to Ragnarok. She liked TLT more than Ragnarok.

I’ll take a rough equal with Ragnarok right now.

Business as usual. They matter when the score is high for a movie the board cares about. When it's 80% or lower, they don't matter.

Yes they matter and they always have. That's why every major release it's a point of discussion. If they didn't matter, then there wouldn't be separate discussion threads about them at all.

They matter and anyone who says they don't is lying to themselves.

I didnt eXpect a sophomore slump from the director.

But as long as it doesn't hit 59% we are good.

I've been saying that they don't matter when the score has been high for films I'm hyped about, as well as when they are low for a film i think will suck but I see those that are interested get disheartened, so it depends on the person. I just don't think other opinions from people I don't know well matter when I know I'm going to see a film, and I don't get carried away in hype just because critics like it. Reviews and opinions from such people only really matter in terms of making me pay attention to things that I didn't have a lot of interest in already.

I'm saying that as someone that doesn't seem to like that many films that are rotten on RT. At least to the extent that I know.

Whether it has bearing on the BO can be a different matter but the BO doesn't matter much to me either, unless it's about getting a sequel which was the case for Dune (although together with streaming performance in that case).

I'm wondering if the very sheltered/isolated nature that many of their film projects took during pandemic is coming back to bite them a bit as it likely affected the ability of the different MCU directors to collaborate like they were in Phase 3.

Run time wise it definitely shook them imo as both MoM and L&T had longer cuts that were very trimmed down. Shame as it seems both movies could have used more mins.

But I did love MoM

Certainly feels like the MCU is trying to reestablish its footing after Phase 3 and the pandemic but haven't quite figured where to take things. The isolated nature of most of their Phase 4 productions is starting to feel like a major hinderance at this point as the writers/directors aren't getting the feedback and ideas they used to get by working side-by-side in the same offices. It also feels like Feige and his team of producers/execs have somewhat forgotten what worked with both fans and critics.

They seemed to get it with No Way Home. But admittedly, that's just one movie.

Yeah I really thought Thor 4 would be the movie where they rediscovered their mojo.

This RT score is way worse than I expected.

But I'm confident they have enough time to calibrate things.

Just imagine Ant-Man 3 comes along and gets a 99% Fresh, lol

I forgot to mention that Campea mentioned during his show today that he submitted for him a rare review on RT for this.

Their only real critical hits so far have been Shang-Chi and NWH. I'm just not getting good feelings with their 2022 offerings. BP2 is very concerning now with how secretive they've been with that film.

Still, as of right now Widow and Strange had very lukewarm receptions and Thor seems to follow that trend, while Eternals had by far the worst one, out of any Marvel Studios Feige produced project, for both critics and audience alike. Even if you completely forget the lackluster TV series they've produced for the most part for Disney+, Phase 4 is certainly pretty weak so far.

When Taiki revealed that he planned for Gorr to have a dance scene and Thor was supposed to have a dance scene to ABBA I was like "yeahhhh they went off the rails with this one".

Gorr having a dance scene? Like they had to be on drugs to even think of that.
