The Marvels: News and General Discussion thread

Honestly, I'm happy to see them break away from the "Title: Subtitle" trend. That sort of franchise naming was kind of invented by the 80's. If its marketed right, everyone will know whose movie this is. You shouldn't have to stick their name in the title every single time to make it obvious.

I was hoping this was going to be for Carol that Thor: Ragnarok was for Thor (which I enjoyed a lot).
Carol doesn't need this to be her "Ragnarok"
Captain Marvel and the Marvels could actually be a kinda fun title, lol.

I’m actually cool with this one, though.
That would have been a better titile imo. I'm not too bothered by The Marvels

If Blue Marvel ends up in this, it will be interesting to see who they cast. I would think that they would want an actor closer to the age of Teyonah Parris (who is 33). With that, there are options. If he wasn't working for DC, Yahya Abdul Mateen would be the best option I think. He's already worked with both Parris and director Nia DaCosta in the upcoming Candyman. Lakeith Stanfield is 29, but would also be a good option. JD Washington would be an interesting choice. I don't know if John Boyega would want to work with Disney again after how he spoke out against how his character was treated in Star Wars but Marvel Studios have treated their black actors quite well and they also have an African American in a very high position there in Nate Moore and also his Star Wars Co-Star Oscar Issac is playing Moon Knight. Trevante Rhodes would be another interesting option.

I don't think they'd have Blue Marvel in this because they probably want this to be a female team up movie. And they would have to spend time introducing him which would take the spotlight away from the others.

Yeah. I think the only male characters we see on the side of good will be Fury and/or Talos, provided both survive Secret Invasion and it's out before this movie.

I just think these movies will not be listed next to each other alphabetically if they don't follow a pattern. Similar to the James Bond movies. Can you imagine if Avengers 2 to 4 dropped Avengers in the title as the first word and just titled them as Ultron vs the Avengers, Infinity War and Endgame of the Infinity Saga. That will look/sound all over the place in listings.

And I wonder what the title for the next Captain marvel movie is after this.

With the Marvels shooting soon, we might get a hint of Monica's hairstyle in the movie:

I was going to say you couldn’t have Captain Marvel: The Marvels but CM&TMs does sound fun and makes the other 2 sound like her little buddies. :D

Do they consider this CM2 or just a team-up? Or maybe they're hedging their bets so that whoever if more popular they'll press forward with development rather than putting it all on Captain Marvel.
The team up is obviously going to be a big part but I did want a significant further part of Carol’s story to get told in this film too. At least a lot of Kamala’s backstory can be covered in her solo series and we’ve had some introduction to Monica.

Hopefully Monica will be fully powered by then.

BTW, I am not used to seeing Teyonah Parris with super long hair as shown in that interview I have posted. Many interviews I have seen of her (even when doing other projects before WandaVision) she either has short hair or it's tied in a bun or a mini beehive.

I mean, if they were alphabetical, Avengers: Endgame would appear before Avengers: Infinity War.
Your point? They would be listed next to each other alphabetically (I never said they wouldn't) just like X-Men Apocalypse, X-Men Days of Future Past, X-Men First Class, X-Men The Last Stand and X-Men. They aren't listed in chronological order because there is no numbering but, it would be easier to spot every Avenger movie in movie listings as they'd be listed close to each other (if the listing is in alphabetical order), You can't say the same thing to Captain Marvel and The Marvels.

Granted, I've consistently bought boxed sets so I don't have a stake in this fight, but I was suggesting a modified alphabetical approach if you were looking to keep things in "order" where it would be alphabetical by main character/team, but chronological within. If you didn't care about preserving chronological order, it didn't seem to make a huge difference whether they're next to each other. I'd argue having Endgame and Infinity War flipped (since they should still be next to each other otherwise) is more jarring than having the Captain Marvel sequel not near Captain Marvel.

I think they'd be generally alphabetical in terms of the first letter it starts with eg "A" but not strictly alphabetical so as to put Endgame before Infinity War. So you'd still get everything beginning with the letter A grouped together so they're easier to find, but not being so legalistic with it so as to mess up the chronology of Infinity War and Endgame so that it doesn't make sense.

I don't care about preserving chronology titles as I didn't suggest adding a number in the title to begin with. I didn't suggest the title to be Captain Marvel Two.

Also
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: Endgame

vs

Captain Marvel
The Marvels

The former can be easily assumed as Avengers movies as they both followed the usual sequel naming. The latter with The Marvels, not everyone is going to think of Captain Marvel/Karol Danvers. The Marvels sounds like a documentary special for Marvel Comics or a rockband.

With Feige and company introducing lots of Young Avengers, I'm going with Noh-Varr aka Marvel Boy. Another Marvel!

Marvel must surely be able to find a small role for actress Elizabeth Marvel in this movie.

The actor is 32 years old from all reports.....too old to play a Young Avenger.

I'm a smidge older than 32 (ahem), and that still seems quite young to me. And Mr. Seo-Joon looks awfully youthful, regardless. I could see him pulling off Young Avengers adjacent if not an active team member.

So does the same rule apply to Jonathan Majors, who's also 32? I think to play a Young Avenger, the actor has to be under 30.

Could he be Genis-Vell?
