Guardians of the Galaxy Will Poulter to play Adam Warlock

Yeah, Dave Bautista really liked the fact that Drax was turn into a clown just because Gunn can't help himself and has to write every character as "funny and awkward" which is popular today. Shocking!

I look forward to these serious moments that will be interrupted by quips.

The Abnett/Lanning version of the team upon which Gunn's Guardians were based had a lot of humor and assorted quippery. It may be worth a read.

Movie Drax is certainly more humorous than the either the Giffen Annihilation version or the 70s era Starlin guy with the cape and fist lasers, but I been quite pleased with Bautista's take on the character. And I don't know if Dave should be knocking the best character of his career.

Drax wasn't more humorous, he was just a complete clown, 90% of the things about his character after GOTG1 are jokes, nothing more.

Gunn's hmor that used to be original, fresh and subversive is now predictable.

Then don't watch it if you hate it. Nobody is forcing you to watch everything in the MCU.

What jokes? Drax's humor comes from the literal nature of his speech and stuff that the character does not use for humorous intent - like his attempt at being invisible and his description of Thor as the offspring of a pirate and an angel line in Infinity War. I find his dry humor delightful, but you always have the option of skipping the next GOTG film since it's obvious it is not going to be for you.

Very interesting casting, much more intriguing than casting Zac Ephrohn

Nobody forces you to read posts from people who criticize what you like.

You seem to get upset that there's too much humor in Superhero movies and that they have to be 100% dark and brooding all of the time. That takes away essential parts of Superhero's origins.

I agree with that…most of the Vol 2 jokes didn’t worked for me…especially the Drax lines.

Dude, where did I write that they have to be 100% dark and brooding all the time? I think there is a time for humor, and a time for seriousness in the case of Gunn it's always about humor.

It's Gunn's intentions, and Gunn wants every character to be funny and that's why Drax becomes even more like this after first GotG.

I like Gunn's writing when it is sincere and full of heart, but unfortunately every scene like this ends with a joke, like in The Suicide Squad, we all know what happened when Polka Dot Man shouted "I'm a superhero", on in the conversation between Drax and Mantis. Again, this kind of humor is no longer original, it's predictable.

Gotcha. I don't like those people because Superhero films are fantasy and we also have DC films that are not 100% dark, even Batman due to his Bruce Wayne persona.

So back in 2017 James Gunn didn't say that Adam Warlock was going to show up in GOTG3. He said AW was going to be part of the cosmic universe post Infinity War. So i think the fan speculation of the appearance of AW in Thor: Love & Thunder, maybe in a post-credit scene, isn't that far fetched since TLT is one of the few proprieties that are part of the cosmic universe and will also feature the GOTG.

Zac Efron not Ephron.

This casting is odd, given Adam Warlock is a pretty boy in the comiXs.

Yeah this doesn't excite me at all. I hate to be THAT person but I expected Adam Warlock to be extremely attractive and Will Poulter doesn't make me flutter at all. He's got quite an odd look about him (not unattractive but I imagined Adam being like... peak Brad Pitt attractive)

It's not like they're short on pretty boys in Hollywood so can only assume he gave a dynamite audition.

LOL

I guess no one here has bothered to try and look up more recent pictures of him:

I've seen him in Maze Runner and Narnia The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I don't need to search for his pictures...

Ah yes, his new movies, from the everyoung unchanged man.

Your point? He doesn't drastically look different from Maze Runner the Death Cure which was released in 2018. He was already an adult in that film.

If you find him physically attractive, okay. No one is questioning you. I am allowed to have my own opinion.

Once again its Efron. Or are you just intentionally misspelling his name for spite?

As I said on another thread, they will have Will eating skinless boiled chicken breasts and participating in two workouts per day before they give him the gold spray tan. Add to that his height - he's in the Hemsworth/Bettany range - and I am confident by the time filming commences he will meet most folks expectations for physical attractiveness.

Actually the first thing I did when I heard he was cast was check out his IG and he just doesn't do it for me. I do have faith this means he gave a stellar audition. I just remember at one point Rege Jean Page was being considered and he's just such a beautiful man.

Like imagine trying to create the perfect man and coming up with Will Poulter.

Wait, is Adam Warlock supposed to be attractive? Now I understand why you wanted Zac Apron to play him.

Very possible!

Stop putting words into my mouth. I never said I wanted Zac Efron to be cast, as I find him short in height for the role.

And its not funny when you continue to misspell someone's name especially when you've been told how to spell it correctly. Its disrespectful and you are blatantly trolling at this point.:whatever:

So, I am flabberghasted. Not even close to someone I'd've picked. But... I'm not mad.

He's always seemed dorky and awkward to me. But I umm... I like to hope dorkiness and awkwardness of adolescence don't have to define a person for their entire life. LOL

Anyway, I trust Gunn and Marvel's casting prowess. I like him better than Zac Efron. And he's quite young, which gives me hope of a long term role. This should be interesting.

WEIRD IS GOOD. LEZ GO

Poulter does have a rather unique facial features, so I can see why people might feel he's a poor choice to play a character that's supposedly designed to be perfect. But I have also enjoyed his acting in everything I've seen him in. I feel optimistic about this.

He’s a great actor and definitely wasn’t amongst the actors I pictured in the role. However looking at a few more recent pictures of him, he actually does have the looks of Warlock and he is definitely getting jacked for the role. This casting has turned into a huge win for me, can’t wait to see him in the role.

Gotta say, I think this is kinda the role of this guys lifetime, for being known for looking and being a pretty goofy kid, he's now a character who (according to Ayesha) is incredibly powerful and beautiful, in a billion dollar james gunn movie.

I've always thought Will Poulter has an extremely punchable face. He'll just always be the worst cousin from Narnia for me. But I'm willing to assume that Gunn maybe took that into account haha. Maybe he wants an Adam Warlock with a punchable face!
